Human Righteousness and the Home of Wang Guowei's Literature and Philosophy Study in His Early Years

Abstract:In his early years, Wang Guowei, in pursuit of spiritual comfort, devoted himself to the pure philosophy of Schopen-hauer and Nietzsche.However, the inherent tension of their theory was insufficient to support his study, which inevitably made him an academic shift to Kant.As far as Wang Guowei is concerned, human righteousness symbolizes his philosophical home for exploration.In his view, the relationship within man constitutes the starting point of thinking to understand and locate his po-sition.Attachment to pragmatism shows a relationship in the world, while detachment indicates a relationship beyond the world. Due to his serious thinking on national crisis and personal disposition, Wang Guowei at a time turned his attention from philoso-phy to literature and art, and accordingly made the shift from personal relief to social and national undertaking during that time. As a result, his study focus changed from literature and philosophy to classics and history in his late years.
