Abstract:Theories on Guanxi being developed and improved becomes the focus for researchers in the fields of sociology,psychology,management and anthropology.Guanxi acts with cultural,transferable,reciprocal,intangible,utilitarian and long-term characteristics.Guanxi is formed with cultural,political and social reasons.Guanxi is influenced by organizational,strategic,institutional and individual factors.The outcomes of Guanxi are performance improvement,individual knowledge transferring and trust increasing.According to domestic and foreign literatures,this paper reviews Guanxi researchs and points out the future research directions.

Abstract:The 1980s witnessed the refreshing of ethical turn in studies of literature and philosophy and thus the reviving of American ethical criticism. American Ethical Criticism: A Survey by Yang Gexin is the first monograph focusing on the evolvement of western ethical criticism. Firstly, the monograph explores the necessity and possibility of American ethical criticism on the basis of a detailed review on the close relation between literature and ethics as well as the practices of moral criticism. Then, it generalizes the reasons and characteristics of ethical turn in literary researches of the 1980s, discusses the main ideas of three critics who made important contribution to the renaissance of ethical criticism, and analyzes the main figures of new humanism ethical criticism and deconstructionism ethical criticism from aspects of theoretical foundations, main concepts, and critical practices. Finally, it makes a brief review on the reception of American ethical criticism in China, and then explores its reconstruction and perfection. The author believes that the ethical literary criticism, initiated by Chinese scholars, perfects American ethical criticism in theory by proving that literature grows out of the ethical demand and the ethical function is primary while the aesthetic one is secondary, and in practice by defining a set of new critical terms and illustrating their application.

Abstract:This paper reviews the relationship between Wang Guowei's doctrine of classical elegance and the traditions of Chinese and western poetics. In view of its theoretical source, Wang Guowei's doctrine of classical elegance is deeply rooted in Kantian aesthetics, which represents the theory of western genius. However, the aim of Wang's construction of this theory is to overthrow and re-estimate the elegance tradition of Chinese ancient poetics. Consequently, though both Chinese and western poetics are involved in the construction of Wang's theory, the former centers on theory, while the latter on substance. In other words, they are not of an equal relation. It is Wang's lack of reflection on what is called "universal truth" of the theory of western genius that leads to some misinterpretations in multi-cultural context.

Abstract:Wang Guo-wei is a representative of modern history study and was once regarded as "Pioneer of New History Study".His studies on literature,philosophy,history and so on are far more outstanding than his research on Jingxue due to the fact that Jingxue was neglected in modern times.However,after he took his travel to Japan and turned his research focus from literature and philosophy to history,Jingxue became a break-through for his great achievements in the later years.To Wang Guo-wei,Jingxue did not belong to Jinwen tradition as seen by Kang Youwei,neither did it belong to Guwen tradition perceived by Zhang Taiyan.It's no doubt that his work bears the most distinctive features in the argument on Jinwen and Guwen during late Qing and early Minguo period: through his study on the meanings of "Guwen" in "Shiji",he reveals the real sense of the works in early Han Dynasty;through his similar study on "Guwen" in "Hanshu",he makes clear the meanings of the works in early Eastern Han Dynasty;by studying "Shuowenjiezi",he understands what is discussed in "Shuowen";by studying the classics of Wei Dynasty carved in three different script styles,he understands the "Guwen Theory" in Wei,Jin and Six Kingdoms;It is also through his systematic study on Han Guwen school of thoughts that he realizes the significance of "Guwen" turning from script style to school of thoughts.In a word,by employing a new perspective,that is,by taking the advantage of the newly discovered new materials such as the excavated Jiaguwen as well as Jinwen(金文),Wang Guo-wei enables the research on Jingxue and its history to be more convincing and reliable.

Abstract:As one of the earliest literary intellectuals who contacted the western missionaries and western civilization in the late Qing dynasty, Wang Tao's perception on western civilization can be divided into the following phases: the period of Shanghai London Missionary Society Press, the period of the Hong Kong Anglo-Chinese College, the period of assisting James Legge in England in translating Chinese Classics, and the period of coming back to Hong Kong and then to Shanghai. Moreover, Wang Tao's attitudes towards the western civilization can also be divided into three modes as following: towards the Protestant Christianity, towards the natural sciences and towards the western literature. The above ideas and attitudes of Wang Tao can be revealed in his two travel books: one is traveling to the West; the other is traveling to the East (Japan). This paper makes a critical interpretation on the above two travel books, and makes analytical explanation for the shaping of his ideas.

Abstract:At the age of 22, Wang Guowei came to Shanghai and was immediately thrust into the forefront of the times. Modern Shanghai embraced pluralism, from which a spirit of honesty and practicality emerged. Young Wang Guowei was solely interested in “philosophy”, taking the World of Education as a platform to introduce the “pure philosophy”, which ushered in a high moment of metaphysics in Shanghai. Because of Wang Guowei, a certain spirit of transcendence emerged in Shanghai based on honesty and practicality. Wang Guowei shifted from Schopenhauer to Kant, hoping to encourage Chinese people to look to the world, face reality, and establish a scientific and rational worldview. During his ten years in Shanghai, young Wang Guowei played the role of importing the light of “reason”, but “reason” provoked a rebound of his feelings, and he became alert to the limitations of “reason”, thus providing us with a way to reflect on the history of Chinese “modernity”.
An Examination of the Origin of the Concept of Guoxue in Modern Time

Abstract:There are three viewpoints of the origin of the concept of "guoxue" in modern China at present, that is, they were put forward by Huang Zun-xian in 1887, by Liang Qi-chao in 1902 and by Wu Ru-lun in 1902 respectively. As a matter of fact, Huang Zun-xian just introduced the word "guoxue" in Chinese rather than the concept "guoxue". In August of 1902 Wu Ru-lun just wrote down in his journal the suggestion put forward by Japanese scholars who proposed to highlight "guoxue" in China, but he didn’t actually advocate it himself. Although Liang talked about the concept of "guoxue" in modern sense, he was not the first person to do so. After analysis of the literature, the author found it was Tu Ren-shou who first used the concept "guoxue" to highlight Chinese traditional Confucius.

Abstract:While existing studies on Yan Fu's evolutionary theory are from the perspective of history of social politics, this paper attempts to discuss the issue from the perspective of the history of academic thoughts. The author points out that Yan Fu has established a new moral concept of “TIANYAN LUN” that breaks through the traditional Chinese ethic. In his theory are examples of the progress from studies of the heart to studies of the mass, from human nature to evolution, from self-perfection to seeking material gains, from the theory of good or evil to theory of suffering and happiness. The author holds that Yan Fu's contribution is fundamental. He has set up the basis for the historic progress of the Chinese modern ethics.

Abstract:Watsuji Tetsuro was an outstanding philosopher in Japan during the twentieth century and ethics was the most important part of his accomplishment.Chinese philosophy,especially Confucianism played a crucial and fundamental role in his life and career.Based on his two important works,Ethics as the Study of Man and Ethics,this paper attempts to show the Chinese philosophy influence of Watsuji's study of ethics by focusing on his establishment of the basic concept of ethics and the description of its contents.Various concepts are described,e.g.,the meanings of the basic conceptions,the ethics from the Chinese philosophy perspective,and the dual-nature of human being as individuals and as a member of various social groupings,and the positive relationship and trust.

Abstract:China's leaders have always paid serious attention to the work style and ethics of its civil service.Nonetheless,in the process of China's fast change,problems of red-tapes and corruption are still rampant.This paper provides a comparative study between the leadership style and ethics practice and theories between China and the west,and argues that while China and west have different lexicons,terminologies,and discourses in this area,deep down,there are many similarities and common grounds.The Chinese side tends to use periodical movements to enforce its ethics while the western countries tend to build checks and balances in its ethics management system.In order to properly respond to the challenges of China's fast change,a more systematic way is needed for China to design a system of ethics management for executive civil servants.

Abstract:Culture is the cumulative deposit of knowledge, traditions, beliefs acquired by a human community in the course of generations: ethics is one of the most important of such beliefs. As for the intercultural communication, the discipline which studies a cultural dialogue about various issues across different communities, since the eighties of the last century it has been the object of various theories, based on experimental data collections: among them the ‘Values Orientation Theory’ by F.R. Kluckhohn and F. Strodtbeck, the ‘Cultural Dimensions Theory’ by G. Hofstede and the ‘Theory of Basic Values’ by S.H. Schwartz. One of the goals of this paper is to give a closer look at those theories. In the same period of time an ‘ethical turn’ manifested itself in western literary studies, after a long period of post-modernist disengagement, by initiative of J. Gardner, M. C. Nussbaum and J. Habermas, among others: the same happened in China in the eve of the new millennium, owing to the studies on comparative literature by Nie Zhenzhao. Literary works constitute an important vehicle of ethical intercultural communication. A second goal of the present paper is that of suggesting a ‘constructivist approach’ in the cultural dialogue between the western world and China, combining the results of those theoretical models with a comparative analysis of literary works chosen ad hoc, as recently done by Xu Zhilin in her comparative study of female images in ‘A leaf in the storm’, by Lin Yutang, and ‘Gone with the wind’, by Margareth Mitchell, from the perspective of Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory.
