A Taxonomic Study on the Genus Scaphotettix Matsumura (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Euscelinae)

Abstract:This paper deals with five new species of the genus Scaphotettix from China. The type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Entomology, Guizhou University(IEGU) and Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agriculture and Forestry (NWSUAF). 1. Scaphotettix redstripeus Li et Wang, sp, nov. (Figs.1～7) Length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 5.1~5.2 mm, ♀ 5.2~5.4 mm. This new species is similar to Scaphotettix viridis Matsumura, but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characteristics: 1) basal margin of face without black transverse line; 2) pronotum with a broad transverse band scarlet;3) base of aedeagus with a pair of spines. Holotype: ♂, Jianfengling, Hainan Province, 14-Ⅴ-1997, coll. YANG Mao-fa; Paratypes: 1♂, 2♀♀, same data as holotype. 2. Scaphotettix splinterus Li et Wang, sp. nov. (Figs.8～12) Length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 4.1~4.2 mm. This new species is related to Scaphotettix indicus (Distant), but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characteristics: 1) basal margin of face without black transverse line; 2) aedeagal shaft straight; 3) length of connective arm is as nine times long as stem. Holotype:♂, Dianbai County, Guangdong Province, 12-Ⅳ-1983, coll. ZHANG Ya-lin; Paratype: 1♂, Shennongjia, Hubei Province, 11-Ⅷ-1997, coll. YANG Mao-fa. 3. Scaphotettix longistyleus Li et Wang, sp. nov. (Figs.13～17) Length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 5.0 mm. This new species is similar to Scaphotettix indicus (Distant), but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characteristics: 1) pygofer side rectangular; 2) subgenital plate very long; 3) end of aedeagus twisted. Holotype: ♂, Mengla, Yunnan Province, 24-Ⅳ-1994, coll. DU Yu-zhou. 4. Scaphotettix slenderus Li et Wang, sp. nov. (Figs.18～23) Length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 3.8 mm. This new species is related to Scaphotettix redundans (Distant), but differs from the latter by the following characteristics: pronotum with fulvus spots, basal margin of face without black transverse line, and pygofer side without process. Holotype: ♂, Sanming City, Fujian Province, 07-Ⅹ-1978. 5. Scaphotettix fanjingensis Li et Wang, sp. nov. (Figs.24～28) Length (incl. tegm.): ♂ 5.8 mm. This new species is similar to Scaphotettix quadrifidus Viraktamath et Mohan, but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characteristics: 1) posterior area of pronotum brown; 2) basal margin of face withtout black transverse line; 3) end of aedeagus with two adverse processes. Holotype: ♂, Mt. Fanjing, Guizhou Province, 03-Ⅷ-2001, coll. LI Zi-zhong.
