Abstract:Serious erosion of the choke is caused by high speed sand fluid during the production of high pressure gas wells.Ceramics and kentanium are usually used for downhole and surface choke due to its good erosion resist-ance.The effects of erosion angle and flow velocity on the erosion rate of kentanium and ceramics were investigated by the self-made jet erosion experiment device. The erosion fluid is the solid-liquid two-phase fluid composed of the guar fracturing fluid 0.3% and the quartz sand. The morphologies of surface on the erosion angle and jet velocity were investigated by SEM.The experimental results show that the erosion resistance of kentanium is lower than that of ceramics and the erosion rate increases with the impact angle increases.Furthermore, there is little difference between the erosion rate of kentanium and ceramic material while the impact angle is 30°.The erosion rate of ken-tanium and ceramic material simultaneously reaches the maximum and the former is twice as much as the latter while the impact angle is 90°.The erosion rate of the two materials increases with the increase of the flow velocity. As the flow velocity is greater than 16 m/s, the erosion rate increases exponentially with the increasing flow veloci-ty.SEM results show that kentanium and ceramics have obvious brittle erosion characteristics.Compared with ce-ramics, kentanium has lower hardness and higher toughness.Furthermore, the ability of resisting brittle fracture is stronger but the ability of resisting micro cutting is weaker. The main damage mechanisms of kentanium are micro cutting action at small impact angles and brittle rupture at large impact angles. The main erosion mechanism of ce-ramics is brittle fracture. This work can provide a certain guiding significance for the prediction of choke material and life.
