Experimental Study on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Tailings

Abstract:The tailing is different from common soil in the relation of the physical and mechanical properties (such as dry density and strength) with the stockpiling depth. Based on the experimental studies of the tailings from Dabaoshan Mine of Guangdong, the e-p curve fit power function equation and the correlation between the internal friction angle and the void ratio of silty tailings was found. The results show that all tailings have certain cohesion. An appropriate technique for tailing discharge and better drainage conditions are indispensable for the enhancement of the dam.
