Abstract:In this paper, an optimization method is proposed to improve the performance of a novel heat exchanger with latent heat thermal energy storage. Paraffin/expanded graphite composites were used as phase change material filled in annular tube, maintained contact with the shell and tube flow channels simultaneously. The heat transfer and flow characteristics of this novel heat exchanger were investigated in a previous study, which indicated that further research was required to enhance thermal transfer rates. Therefore, in this work, the thermal property of the material and geometric parameters of the heat exchanger, including compression density, tube diameter, and fins and baffle configuration, were studied numerically to improve the thermal behavior of the system. It was found that a composite with density of 600 kg/m(3), a tube diameter of 19 mm, and an extended surface and baffle space of 100 mm, can be used for the final optimization result. The results show that, after optimization, the thermal conductivity of the phase change material can reach 5.16 W/m K and the latent thermal energy stored in system could be twice that previously obtained. The solidification rate can increase to a maximum of 50% while the shell side Nu/Pr-1/3 can reach 29.98. The improved heat exchanger shows better energy storage capacity and working power. Abstract:The temperature field and heat elimination in heating process of crude oil tank were studied through numerical simulation.The location and structure of the heater were analyzed in terms of energy saving and safety.The optimal outer radius was obtained by several simulations on the oil tank with different outer radius of the heater,and the required heating surface and diameter of the coil pipe were also calculated.As a result,the running cost of the heating process for a crude oil tank is cut down,and the work provides guiding proposes on revamping or building new oil tanks.

Abstract:The utilization of low-temperature heat is one of important means for energy conservation of oil refineries in China.The stochastic and dispersive use of low-temperature heat results in serious losses of ener- gy.At current conditions of that the refinery process units become increasingly larger and are arranged in the compact area,the operation cycle is extended,and state-of-the-art technologies are applied for process control and equipment,a refinery-wide low-temperature heat utilization optimization system has been developed on the basis of"Step Use by Temperature Grade"principle.The low-temperature heat resources are integrated using recycle de-aerated soft water as heat media and based upon their temperature grades,and then used in the low- temperature sinks in reboilers of fractionator,oil storage and transportation facilities and boiler feed water sys- tem,etc.based upon their temperature levels.This makes it possible to fully utilize the waste heat and save a large amount of steam.Two heat exchange train optimization technologies and system design techniques are presented and application cases are given.

Abstract:In this paper, a high-temperature heat pump (HTHP) is developed and manufactured to replace the traditional oil-fired boiler heater for crude oil heating. It extracts thermal energy from waste hot water separated from the crude oil to provide high-temperature hot water to heat the crude oil. A prototype of the HTHP system is installed in the Jinzhou oil treatment station in Liaoning, China and the field test is conducted for about 6000 h. A typical 144 h of field testing data is analyzed to evaluate the performance of the designed HTHP system. It is observed that the temperature of hot water provided by the HTHP unit varies from 86 °C to 95 °C throughout the whole operating period and is sufficient for the crude oil heating (80–90 °C). The heating capacity and power consumption of the HTHP system varies from 1350 to 1785 kW, and 171 to 197 kW, respectively. The overall system coefficient of performance ranges from 3.5 to 4.4 with an average value of 3.8. Based on the experimental results, a primary energy ratio is introduced to evaluate and compare the economics of the studied HTHP system and oil-fired boiler heater. The comparison shows that the energy consumed by the HTHP unit is only 57% of that consumed by the oil-fired boiler heater. If all traditional oil-fired boiler heaters are replaced by the HTHPs in the Jinzhou oil treatment station, the total yearly energy saving is around 1.12 × 10 4 tons of equivalent coal which equates to 1.76 × 10 4 tons of CO 2 emissions.

Abstract:To meet domestic demand for cooling and heating water,generally air conditioner and water heater are needed.Air conditioner will release heat of condensation in the summer,which will waste the energy and cause thermal pollution if it is not used.In order to make full use of the heat of condensation,a novel heat pump-water heater combined cycle system is proposed.According to the latest national standards,the indoor unit,outdoor unit,& water heater are designed and optimized.The novel system can improve the utilization and safety of the equipment compared to two independent systems.Compared with air conditioner & electric water heater,air conditioner & gas water heater,air conditioner & air-source heat pump water heater,the novel system initial investment can save 3.0％,14.8％ and 38.1％ and the operation costs can save 42.6％,35.0％ and 28.9％ respectively.

Abstract:The enhanced heat transfer technology for pipe and its application in caldron-shell oilfired and gas-fired boilers are introduced, and the heat transfer mechanism of enhanced heat transfer technology and the existing empirical calculation formula of enhanced heat transfer for pipe are analyzed. Recommended parameters for the structure of some enhanced heat transfer elements are given by analyzing the structural features, enhanced heat transfer effects and application conditions of different heat transfer elements, and synthetically considering the factors in heat transfer and flow resistance.

Abstract:The characteristics of flowing heat exchange inside a gasoline-engine water jacket are investigated using the CFD method,and the water-jacket structure is optimized accordingly.The calculation result indicates that flow velocity can reach up to 2m/s in the optimized cylinder head exhaust-side bridges and cylinder-to-cylinder bridges.Overall,the optimized water-jacket heat exchange capability is substantially improved.

Abstract:Natural gas heater is widely applied in gas wellhead, metering stations, transfer stations and gas power plants etc. by its reliability and safety. As a special type of furnace, the natural gas heater is one of the low-efficiency energy consumption equipments adopting the indirect heating by the heat-transfer medium. Therefore, it is extremely important to improve the structure of the heater so as to design and manufacture a kind of natural gas heater with high fuel efficiency based on its practical usage. The weak points and strengthening measures on the heat transfer of this heater were thoroughly discussed. In response to the fact that defects exist in the conventional arrangement of heat-exchange surfaces in the large cylinder of this heater, two effective optimizing arrangements of a. thermal retardation and cooling the heated surface and b. setting the baffle between the heating surfaces were proposed, thus to help the heat-transfer medium form an overall well-organized smooth flow and enhance the heat transfer. As a result, the thermal efficiency of natural gas heater is improved, and the energy consumption is reduced. These above-mentioned two techniques have been awarded Chinese national patents.

Abstract:This paper researched the flow field of cooling water in the body water jacket,the whole pressure loss and the heat convection coefficient of the cooling jacket of the turbocharged diesel engine through CFD software AVL-Fire.And the body water jacket was optimized.The simulation results show that the back side of the original body water jacket presents an inadequate cooling effectiveness and bad cooling uniformity.The improved design of the water jacket was proposed,which improved the cooling intensity of the back side and the cooling uniformity.

Abstract:Natural gas as clean energy accounts for a more significant proportion of primary energy consumption. The natural gas water heater is the leading equipment for independent household heating, therefore the improvement of its thermal efficiency and heat transfer performance are significant. In this paper, a novel integrated condensing heat exchanger was designed and applied in the natural gas water heater. The performance test platform for the water heater was set up, and the thermal efficiency was calculated based on the experimental data and analysis of flue gas composition. The results showed that when the supply and return water temperature of low-temperature floor radiant heating is reached, the water flow rate was 80 L/min, and the thermal efficiency was about 107%. Then the physical and mathematical models of the condensing heat exchanger were established in Fluent software, and experimental data verified the correctness of the model. Finally, the condensation and convective heat transfer of flue gas produced by natural gas combustion in the condensing heat exchanger were studied using the established models. The effects of vapour volume fraction in flue gas and geometrical parameters of the heat exchanger on heat transfer performance were analyzed qualitatively as a guide to the application of this novel heat exchanger.

Abstract:In consideration of the problems of low heating efficiency and high steel consumption of traditional heating furnace, an acoustic coupling and pulse-combustion heating furnace is developed by revising oilfield furnace with a pulse combustor. The process of cyclic combustion, heating and pressure impulse is created by the combustor for maintaining the normal impulse of combustion. The experimental result shows that the furnace can improve the heating efficiency, reduce the discharge of contaminants, and save steel materials. Smoke is automatically removed without using stack and blast fan. Its performance is better than that of the furnace with steady combustor, and can be popularized for use in oil gathering and delivering process.

Abstract:Currently, research is being conducted all over the world to create clearly defined operating, technological and design parameters that ensure the continuity of hydrodynamic and thermal processes, which will improve the energy efficiency of heat supply devices and the technical characteristics necessary for the development of control circuits. One of the most pressing problems in this area is the development of modern pipeline designs based on the values of the critical speed of the heat transfer flow, hydraulic resistance and solid particle concentrations relative to the calculated parameters along the line and their mathematical models, improvement of calculation methods and modification of the turbulizing elements of the heat transfer flow. The efficiency factor (COP) of water heating boilers used today in the country is 70-75%. This article presents an analysis of research on the creation of heating boilers by improving the hydraulic parameters of boilers and using effective structural elements to increase the energy efficiency of hot water boilers. The article presents a hydraulic calculation of improved parameters of a hot water boiler. It has been shown that the design of a finned heat-conducting pipe is more effective than a smooth one. As a result of research and calculations, it was possible to increase the thermal efficiency of the water heating boiler by 15-20%. This increases the efficiency of hot water boilers and saves resources used as fuel.

Numerical Heat Transfer Part A Applications

Abstract:A novel internal combustion engine heated steam generator (ICEHSG) and the energy-matching optimization method are proposed in this paper. In the ICEHSG, the energy generated by the internal combustion engine (ICE) of the vehicle is converted to thermal energy as the heating source of the steam generator. Firstly, the prototype model of the hydraulic heater (HH) of the ICEHSG is established, and the relevant structural parameters are optimized based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Secondly, the energy matching between HH and ICE is optimized based on the particle swarm algorithm with compression factors (CFPSO). Finally, the energy provided by the ICEHSG and the required energy of the steam generation process is optimized, and the analysis is combined with the actual engineering case. The simulation results show that when the inclination angle of the blade is 45°, the number of rotor and stator blades is 31–33, and the diameter of the circular circle is 386 mm, the torque performance and heating performance of the HH are optimal. Meanwhile, the maximum thermal power can be obtained when the liquid filling rate of the HH is 100%. After optimization, the maximum torque of the HH working with the ICE is increased by 8.07%. Compared with the traditional boiler steam generator, the ICEHSG system proposed in this paper can increase the thermal efficiency by 1.3%–2.7% and reduce the cost by 37%.

Abstract:To make full use of associated gas of the oil field on the well and quicken oil field's development and decrease the vehicle's running cost,we do research on the duel-fuel burning and heating system of the boiler on the hot-oil paraffin-cleaning vehicle.In the article,the burning and heating model for the dual-fuel burning and heating system was built.And some theoretical work on the optimal ratio between the duel-fuel and the air was done.And we did some design work on the fuel supply system and the air supply system.Also we designed the burning instrument and studied the PLC controlling system.So the dual-fuel burning and heating system come into use.Through the experiments,we prove that the dual-fuel burning model is correct and feasible and its heat efficiency is higher.And it has better economy,better feasibility and better practicably.

Abstract:The fluid-solid coupling method was used to improve the performance of the engine water jacket in order to solve heat dispersion problems of new engine.The finite element model of the engine water jacket was established,and calibrated by test results.The heat dispersion performance of the engine water jacket was analyzed to get the information of heat coefficient,pressure loss,flow rate and heat dispersion of each cylinder based on the model.The optimization of the water jacket was conducted.The heat transfer coefficient was reached 10 000W/(m2·K)after the optimization,and the coolant velocity was above 1m/s on the critical location.Results show that the fluid-solid coupling method can accurately predict the heat dispersion performance of engine water jacket,which helps researchers to locate the critical position of water jacket cooling performance and save a lot of time.

Abstract:High temperature ground source heat pump systems can be used to replace traditional oil or gas burning furnaces to heat output crude oil in oil transit, and can achieve better the effects of saving energy and reducing emissions. An experimental system of replaced the water jacket heater by the high temperature ground source heat pump system in a transit station of the oil field is introduced in this paper, and the results of this experiment indicates that, the replaced system operates well in test period and the high temperature ground source heat pump systems can be applied more widely in oil fields. Experiment indicates that, the high temperature ground source heat pump COP is 3.8. This system can save the running expense 47.4% comparing with the gas heating and save the running expense 61% comparing with the electric heating.

Abstract:The latest optimization technology for crude oil rectifying system of British Process Integration Ltd.(PIL) was employed in the modeling and optimized operation of the heat exchange network in the No.3 atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit of China Petroleum Chemical Co.,Ltd.Maoming Branch.The results showed that the crude oil temperature raised by 7℃ after heat exchange and maximizes the energy recovery by optimizing the middle section heat distribution of the atmospheric tower and reducing the top cold reflux to almost zero.
