Abstract:The novel carbon-based acid catalyst has been applied to catalyzing the acetalization and ketalization. The results showed that the catalyst was very efficient with the average yield over 93%. The novel heterogeneous catalyst has the advantages of high activity, wide applicability even to 7-membered ring acetals, strikingly simple workup procedure, non-pollution, and reusability, which will contribute to the green process greatly.

Abstract:The synthesis of 2, 4-diisopropyl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane through the acetalization of isobutyraldehyde with 2, 2, 4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol (TMPD) catalyzed by the novel carbon based acid was first carried out. High conversion (≥98%) and specific selectivity were obtained using the novel carbon based acid, which kept high activity after it was reused 5 times. Moreover, the catalyst could be used to catalyze the acetalization and ketalization of different aldehydes and ketones with superior yield. The yield of several products was over 90%. The novel heterogeneous catalyst has the distinct advantages of high activity, strikingly simple workup procedure, non-pollution, and reusability, which will contribute to the success of the green process greatly.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol at room temperature under solvent-free condition. The results showed that the novel multi-SO 3 H functionalized ionic liquid was very efficient for the reactions with the good to excellent yields in short time. Operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, room temperature, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions, reusability and chemoselectivity are the key features of this methodology.

In the reaction process the removal of water produced and other catalysts were not necessary. Abstract:Radical-initiated allylation reactions represent a powerful tool for installation on a synthetically useful allyl group for further transformations. In this field, direct allylation of C-H bonds has received considerable attentions due to its more atom-efficient and environmental benign potential. Despite these advances, these strategies still have some limitations, such as utilization of stoichiometric HAT reagents and excessive amount of C-H substrates, incompatibility with aldehydic C(sp2)-H bonds, relaying on the dual catalysis or multiple steps. Herein, a one-step protocol for desulfonylative allylation of C-H bonds of aldehydes and alkanes with allyl sulfones using TBADT as photo-hydrogen atom transfer catalyst is reported. This methodology requires only a single equivalent of C-H substrates and has been applied for the allylation of aldehydic C(sp2)-H, activated or unactivated aliphatic C(sp3)-H with good functional group tolerance. Moreover, this methodology exhibites further potential application for diacrylation of allylic sulfones by slightly adjusting the ratio of reactants, presenting a direct and facile access to the highly substituted 1,5-diketones in good to high yields.

Abstract:2-[2-Chloro-1-(1-chlorovinyl)allylidene]-1,3-dithiane 1 was synthesized by the chlorination of 3-(1,3)-dithianylidenepentane-2,4-dione 2 using the Vilsmeier-Haack reagent in 99% yield. As a novel nonthiolic, odorless 1,3-propanedithiol equivalent, 1 was investigated in the thioacetalization reaction. Various types of aldehydes and ketones 3 were converted to the corresponding dithianes 4 in the presence of 1 in high yields (79-97%). Moreover, 1 exhibited obvious chemoselectivity between aldehyde and ketone in this thioacetalization reaction. A mechanism for this thioacetalization reaction is proposed.

Abstract:Odorless 2-(1,3-dithian-2-ylidene)-3-oxobutanoic acid (1c) was prepared and investigated in the thioacetalization of carbonyl compounds as a 1,3-propanedithiol equivalent. The results showed that the thioacetalization of various carbonyl compounds 2 with 1c proceeded smoothly and afforded the corresponding dithioacetals 3 in high yields (up to 99%) in the presence of acetyl chloride at room or reflux temperatures. Moreover, the thioacetalization exhibited high chemoselectivity between aldehydes and ketones. Abstract:The acetalization of aldehydes or ketones with diols to the corresponding 1,3-d iox olane derivatives was performed at room temperature in the absence of any organi c solvent and dehydration agent by using different acidic ionic liquids as cata lysts, including HMImBF4, HeMImBF4, BMImH2PO4, BMImHSO4, H2SO4 and H3PO4. Amon g these acids, the Brnsted acidic ionic liquid BMImH2PO4 showed the best catalytic performance. The conversion depended on the properties of the substrates in this reaction. The easier the nucleophilic addition of diol s to aldehydes/ketones was, the higher conversion it gave. During the reaction p rocess the removal of water produced was unnecessary. After the reaction the de sired product 1,3-dioxolane derivatives could be isolated from the reaction sys tem automatically, and the after-treatment was convenient. The acidic ionic liq uid could be reused directly without dehydration for at least 10 times.

Abstract:Using -oxo-ketene dithioacetals 1a as odorless thiol equivlents, an efficient and odorless transthioacetalization of acetals 2 has been developed. In the presence of MeCOCl in MeOH, the cleavage of 1a commences to generate thiols at both room and reflux temperatures, and the generated thiols then react with acetals 2 to give correspecting thioacetals 3 in good yield. This transthioacetalization is characterized by mild reaction conditions, simple procedure, good yields, and perfect chemoselectivity. It is noteworthy that only a very faint odor of thiols can be perceived during both the reaction and workup.
