Abstract:We study a class of Cantor sets in [0, 1]. We show that the complement of the Cantor set is winning for Schmidt game if and only if the Cantor set is not "fat". This provides some open dense sets of full Lebesgue measure that are not winning for Schmidt game.

Abstract:Recently, Andrews and Paule studied Schmidt type partitions using MacMahon's Partition Analysis and obtained various interesting results. In this paper, we focus on the combinatorics of Schmidt type partition theorems and characterize them in a general and refined form. In addition, we also present some overpartition analogues of Schmidt type partition theorems.

Abstract:According to the size of sets for doubling measures, subsets of R-n can be divided into six classes. Sets in these six classes are respectively called very thin, fairly thin, minimally thin, minimally fat, fairly fat, and very fat. In our main results, we prove that if a quasisymmetric mapping f of [0,1] maps a uniform Cantor set E onto a uniform Cantor set f (E), then E is of positive Lebesgue measure if and only if f(E) is so. Also, we prove that the product of n uniform Cantor sets is very fat if and only if each of the factors is very fat, and that the product is minimally fat if and only if one of the factors is minimally fat.
On Nontrivial Winning and Losing Parameters of Schmidt Games

Abstract:In this paper we completely describe the winning and losing conditions different from the only ``trivial'' conditions known before. In other words, we solve the open question of finding a complete nontrivial Schmidt diagram. In addition, we give the new bounds for two family of sets: one related to frequencies of digits in base-$2$ expansions, and one connected to the set of the badly approximable numbers.

Abstract:We discuss Schmidt's winning sets in S-gap shifts (sigma S, sigma). Roughly speaking, we say that a dynamical system has the non-dense orbits winning (NDOW) property if the exceptional sets of non-dense orbits are all winning. We prove that if S subset of Z+ either is a finite nontrivial subset or is piecewise syndetic, then (sigma S, sigma) has the NDOW property; on the other hand, if S is the set of all primes, then (sigma S, sigma) does not have the NDOW property. Additionally, we show that all exceptional sets in any S-gap shift have positive Hausdorff dimension, but there exists an invertible symbolic dynamical system with positive Hausdorff dimension and an exceptional set of some point such that the exceptional set is a countable winning set (and hence has zero Hausdorff dimension).

Abstract:Schmidt's game, and other similar intersection games have played an important role in recent years in applications to number theory, dynamics, and Diophantine approximation theory. These games are real games, that is, games in which the players make moves from a complete separable metric space. The determinacy of these games trivially follows from the axiom of determinacy for real games, $\mathsf{AD}_\mathbb{R}$, which is a much stronger axiom than that asserting all integer games are determined, $\mathsf{AD}$. One of our main results is a general theorem which under the hypothesis $\mathsf{AD}$ implies the determinacy of intersection games which have a property allowing strategies to be simplified. In particular, we show that Schmidt's $(\alpha,\beta,\rho)$ game on $\mathbb{R}$ is determined from $\mathsf{AD}$ alone, but on $\mathbb{R}^n$ for $n \geq 3$ we show that $\mathsf{AD}$ does not imply the determinacy of this game. We also prove several other results specifically related to the determinacy of Schmidt's game. These results highlight the obstacles in obtaining the determinacy of Schmidt's game from $\mathsf{AD}$.

Abstract:In this paper we study a class of random Cantor sets. We determine their almost sure Hausdorff, packing, box, and Assouad dimensions. From a topological point of view, we also compute their typical dimensions in the sense of Baire category. For the natural random measures on these random Cantor sets, we consider their almost sure lower and upper local dimensions. In the end we study the hitting probabilities of a special subclass of these random Cantor sets.

Abstract:The set of badly approximable numbers, Bad, is known to be winning for Schmidt's game and hence has full Hausdorff dimension. It is also known that the set of inhomogeneously badly approximable numbers has full dimension. We prove that the set difference also has full dimension using a variant of the Schmidt game, which we call the rapid game, played on the space of unimodular grids.

Abstract:In 1998 Kleinbock conjectured that any set of weighted badly approximable $d\times n$ real matrices is a winning subset in the sense of Schmidt's game. In this paper we prove this conjecture in full for vectors in $\mathbf{R}^d$ in arbitrary dimensions by showing that the corresponding set of weighted badly approximable vectors is hyperplane absolute winning. The proof uses the Cantor potential game played on the support of Ahlfors regular absolutely decaying measures and the quantitative non-divergence estimate for a class of fractal measures due to Kleinbock, Lindenstrauss and Weiss. To establish the existence of a relevant winning strategy in the Cantor potential game we introduce a new approach using two independent diagonal actions on the space of lattices.

Abstract:Matthew Baker investigated, in previous work, an elegant, infinite-length game that may be used to study subsets of real numbers. We present two accessible examples of how an important technique from set theory, or a different technique from infinite game theory, may be used to answer Baker's question on whether this game provides a precise characterization for countable subsets of real numbers, and we connect this game to the well-studied Banach-Mazur game from topology.

Abstract:Poset games are a class of combinatorial game that remain unsolved. Soltys and Wilson proved that computing wining strategies is in \textbf{PSPACE} and aside from special cases such as Nim and N-Free games, \textbf{P} time algorithms for finding ideal play are unknown. This paper presents methods calculate the nimber of posets games allowing for the classification of winning or losing positions. The results present an equivalence of ideal strategies on posets that are seemingly unrelated.

Abstract:We define a natural equivalence relation on collections of cards from the card game SET, and enumerate some of the equivalence classes, vastly generalizing the standard game. On this basis, we describe several alternative games for the SET deck, including the game of STUN, in which the goal is to find three cards with exactly two values in each attribute.

Abstract:We consider a class of non-symmetric Cantor sets C determined by C = a0C ∪ (a1C + 1 - a1), a0, a1 ∈ (0, 1). Under certain conditions on a0 and a1, the upper and lower densities are obtained explicitly for each x ∈ C. Abstract:A partition is finitary if all its members are finite. For a set $A$, $\mathscr{B}(A)$ denotes the set of all finitary partitions of $A$. It is shown consistent with $\mathsf{ZF}$ (without the axiom of choice) that there exist an infinite set $A$ and a surjection from $A$ onto $\mathscr{B}(A)$. On the other hand, we prove in $\mathsf{ZF}$ some theorems concerning $\mathscr{B}(A)$ for infinite sets $A$, among which are the following: (1) If there is a finitary partition of $A$ without singleton blocks, then there are no surjections from $A$ onto $\mathscr{B}(A)$ and no finite-to-one functions from $\mathscr{B}(A)$ to $A$. (2) For all $n\in\omega$, $|A^n|<|\mathscr{B}(A)|$. (3) $|\mathscr{B}(A)|\neq|\mathrm{seq}(A)|$, where $\mathrm{seq}(A)$ is the set of all finite sequences of elements of $A$.

Abstract:In set theory without the axiom of regularity, we consider a game in which two players choose in turn an element of a given set, an element of this element, etc.; a player wins if its adversary cannot make any next move. Sets that are winning, i.e. have a winning strategy for a player, form a natural hierarchy with levels indexed by ordinals. We show that the class of hereditarily winning sets is an inner model containing all well-founded sets, and that all four possible relationships between the universe, the class of hereditarily winning sets, and the class of well-founded sets are consistent. We describe classes of ordinals for which it is consistent that winning sets without minimal elements are exactly in the levels indexed by ordinals of this class. For consistency results, we propose a new method for getting non-well-founded models. Finally, we establish a probability result by showing that on hereditarily finite well-founded sets the first player wins almost always.
