Abstract:Measurements of heat transfer coefficient (a) from bed to heating surface were performed on a 135MWe (465t/h) commercial CFB boiler, the largest CFB boiler in operation in China. Axial profiles of alpha were measured at different boiler loads. Two kinds of methods were used for the measurements: the heat flux method (HFM) and the finite element method (FEM). For HFM, alpha was measured with a heat flux meter. For FEM, a was calculated by using finite element analysis based on the temperature measured on insulation-side surface of the membrane tubes. Axial pressure drop profiles were synchronically measured by using a multi-channel acquisition system. The peripheral distribution of alpha on the side wall and the front wall of the furnace were also measured. It was found that the pressure profiles along the furnace height fit well with a second order exponential decay, so that a direct derivative method was proposed instead of using the empirical differential method based on the discrete pressure drop values. Experimental results show that alpha decreases with the increasing furnace height and the decreasing boiler load. It was also found alpha in the corner was about 6-8% higher than that in the center on the same side of water wall. The data obtained by FEM is higher than those obtained by HFM and they vary remarkably more gradually with the suspension density. The experimental data measured by HFM agree well with those in literature. More experiments and more comprehensive modeling are suggested in future study.
