Abstract:Cast iron pipes lined with cement mortar are widely used for water supply, due to its good corrosion resistance and chemical stability. However,pH and calcium ion concentrations may change significantly when high quality reclaimed water is conveyed using cast iron pipe lined with cement mortar (high quality reclaimed water is defined as the water with minimal amount of ions, treated by the reverse osmosis technology).Meanwhile, the erosion of the cement mortar poses a potential risk.In this study,a dynamic simulated water distribution model test-loop,which was 120 meters long and made of DN100 cast iron pipe lined with cement mortar, was built to investigate the impact of changes in the reclaimed water quality. The results showed that parameters of water quality such as pH,TDS,conductivity, calcium, sulfur, aluminum and silicon increased substantially after reclaimed water was conveyed in the system. However, iron and manganese were not detected. The changes in water quality were due to dissolving of calcium hydroxide and other hydrates in the cement.
