Abstract:In order to apply the ITU-T G.279 voice codec Standard to application systems easily and correctly, a G.729B voice codec software using the Object-Oriented Methods is developed. Based on the analysis of user demand, the system design and implemen-tation procedures of the software are introduced. The codec sofhvare offers a simple application interface for end users and has been used in practice.

Abstract:OpenH323 is an open source VoIP(Voice over IP)protocol stack. It supports H.323, SIP and other multimedia communication protocols and provides a good developing platform for multimedia applications. G.723.1 is an ITU standard for speech codecs which are mainly used for medium-rate and low-rate multimedia communication applications. At present, G.723.1 has been widely used in the IP phone systems. Based on the OpenH323 software-end, realizing the G.723.1 codec has very important application value. In this paper, the realization method of G.723.1 codec on the OpenH323 protocol stack is presented, and it can be extended to G.729 and other speech codecs.

Abstract:This paper provides a reduced complexity version of the G.723.1 dual rate speech coder for multimedia communication transmitting at 5.3 & 6.3 kbit/s. This version is bit stream interoperable with the full version, i.e. a reduced complexity encoder may be used with a full implementation of the decoder. This simplified G.723.1 has been applied in a multimedia system, ITU-T H.324, that is implemented based on the PC platform of Windows95. The H.324 is the terminals for low bitrate multimedia communication, utilizing V.34 modems operating over the GSTN. H.324 terminals include the H.223 multiplex, H.245 control, H.263 video codec, and G.723.1 audio codec. The bottleneck for this system is the enormous computing quantity and current PC's speed. The video codec and the audio codec spend the most of the computing quantity. Intel MMX assembly of Pentium can be used effectively to reduced computing quantity for video codec H.263, but it does not work for audio G.723, as audio is represented in a different way from video. It is difficult to reduce the computing complexity of G.723. This paper provides a programs optimized and reduced complexity version of the G.723.1 audio codec. This version is a bit stream interoperable with the full version. A real-time test shows, the computing complexity of this optimized and simplified version of G.723.1 audio codec has been 33% of the full version. The quality of reconstructed audio in this version is almost the same as the full version.

Abstract:With the development of the Internet technologies and computer communication technologies, the traditionary circuit-switch based network must evolves to the new generation network which is based on the packet-switch technology. Facing the progress and status of the convergence of the three-networks, This document presents a distributed and SIP protocal based VoIP system prototype. Due to combinating of merits of SIP and IP, this model not only provides the interoperation with the existed network, but also provides an extendable plat for the NGN. This model uses private VoIP network to achieve the QoS.

Abstract:QoS of IP telephony is worse than that of circuit telephony because the available bandwidth of Internet varies then results in the loss of voice packets. This paper suggests an adaptive voice codec which can be applied in the IP telephony gateway, it can output various bit rate when Internet's bandwidth varies, the most advantage of the codec is that it can decrease the ratio of packet-losing and improve the QoS of voice. In the implementation of the voice coder, this paper brings forward four algorithms, which include an algorithm for computing the ratio of packet-losing based on real-times transport protocol, an algorithm for implementing a coder that outputs various bit rate, an algorithm for voice packeting, and an adaptive algorithm for encoding and packeting.

Abstract:A new system scheme was proposed to realize conversational voice services with high QoS requirements in wireless local area networks (WLAN). This scheme contains a network model consisting of wireless terminals, wireless access point, voice gateway and internet, while the adopted protocol stack architecture of the wireless terminals inside WLAN is RTP/UDP/IP/LLC802.2/802.11e, from application layer to medium access control (MAC) layer respectively. In MAC layer, an improved Multipoll based on hybrid coordination function (HCF) of standard IEEE 802.11e was presented by designing the polling mechanisms and the polling frame formats. The admission control policy was derived to satisfy delay and bandwidth requirements, and the polling efficiency formulae of Multipoll and Singlepoll were also derived. Simulation results show that the proposed system scheme can provide QoS guarantees, such as bandwidth and maximal packet delay, for conversational voice services; and that Multipoll is much more efficient than Singlepoll. The throughput performances obtained by simulation are very close to the analytical results, which means that the system throughput can be accurately estimated using the presented formulae.

Abstract:In this paper, currently existing voice compression technologies have been analyzed and compared with respects to their methods, compression ratios, and features. Among these technologies, IMBE is presented as one of the best technologies for its best compression ratio, voice quality, and applicability to communication networks. Therefore, using this method, a voice supported multimedia service on data communication networks has been realized. Finally, this paper introduces the voice supported HiTEL services and its networks composed of packet switching digital network and public switching telephone network, and suggests the direction for development of the voice supported information services and its database construction toward multimedia systems

Abstract:Voice communications such as telephony are delay sensitive. Existing voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications transmit voice data in packets of very small size to minimize packetization delay, causing very inefficient use of network bandwidth. This paper proposes a multiplexing scheme for improving the bandwidth efficiency of existing VoIP applications. By installing a multiplexer in an H.323 proxy, voice packets from multiple sources are combined into one IP packet for transmission. A demultiplexer at the receiver-end proxy restores the original voice packets before delivering them to the end-user applications. Results show that the multiplexing scheme can increase bandwidth efficiency by as much as 300%. The multiplexing scheme is fully compatible with existing H.323-compliant VoIP applications and can be readily deployed.

Abstract:This paper discusses an efficient implementation of the multiplexing protocol H.223, which is an important part of 3G-324M protocol stack required for 3G mobile multimedia communications. Our implementation of the protocol aims to support the multi-point video conferencing with the capability of transmitting/receiving multiple video/audio streams simultaneously. Conference managements such as admission and audio channel scheduling are also discussed. As a result, the implementation improves efficiency and makes the conference more convenient to set up and operate. Our prototype system is stable and its performance is satisfactory.

Abstract:It addresses important issues on transcoding between different speech codes.Conventional transcoding algorithms on LSP conversion are refined with regard to the structure of coders.The performance of the proposed algorithms is verified by trancoding between AMR,G.723.1 and G.729A.Compared with traditional tandem transcoding schemes,the complexity is reduced by about 10% and speech quality is also improved.

Abstract:According to CCITT recommendation G.722 on 7 kHz Audio Coding, wideband speech is splitted into two equal subbands by QMF. The lower band is based on simplified coding standard G.729A, and the higher band is based on lower bit rate of G.729D standard. Thereby lower delay in wideband speech coding at 14.4 Kb/s can be realized.

Abstract:Ad hoc networks have been paid more attention recently in underground mines. Due to its flexibility and quick deployment, ad hoc networks are widely used in emergency occasions such as mine collapses when communication infrastructure is destroyed. However, underground mines are harsh environment where corrosive water, dust and toxic and explosive gases are commonly present. And the characteristic of confined space in underground mines will lead to diffraction, attenuation, multipath, scattering and fading phenomena that could interfere with radio signals. In this paper, we will focus on studying performance of underground mines' ad hoc network in a VoIP context by means of simulating VoIP over ad hoc network. We compare the performance of three different codecs, G.711, G.723, and G.729. The results demonstrate that G.723 will obtain highest Mean Opinion Score and is suitable for encoding voice and transmitting through the ad hoc networks.

Abstract:To take advantage of the non-speech intervals in voice signal, a data embedding algorithm based on the voice activity detection technology of G.723.1 codec algorithm is introduced. Based on the G.723.1 algorithm, a hybrid voice activity detection technology is implemented, which includes adaptive energy detection algorithm and linear predictive coding-based voice activity detector algorithm. In G.723.1, voice signal is encoded into three types of data frames: 1) active frame; 2) silence insertion descriptor frame; 3) untransmitted silence frame. The date embedding algorithm can be identify that whether the current frame is active speech or non-speech by detecting the code symbols, and then embed the secret data in non-speech frame to transmit. The experimental results show that the ratio of the embedded data transmission bitrates and the maximum voice signal transmission bitrates is up to 50% in the general voice calls sequence without reducing the voice quality. The algorithm effectively improves the utilization of the channels and is widely used in the applications of Voice over IP and video conferences. © 2011 IEEE.
