Abstract:According to CCITT recommendation G.722 on 7 kHz Audio Coding, wideband speech is splitted into two equal subbands by QMF. The lower band is based on simplified coding standard G.729A, and the higher band is based on lower bit rate of G.729D standard. Thereby lower delay in wideband speech coding at 14.4 Kb/s can be realized.

Abstract:This paper makes improvement in G.728 algorithm aiming at reducing coding rate and presents an 8Kbit/s speech coding algorithm whose delay is 2.5ms. The size of frame which is 5 samples in G.728 is extended to 20 samples. Adaptive codebook is introduced, which is composed of the recent excitation.20 dimensions normalized fixed codebook is adopted for the proposed algorithm. The exact gain of adaptive and fixed codeword are calculated and quantized. Fixed quantization is used in adaptive codebook and adaptive quantization is used in fixed codebook. The size of adaptive and fixed codeword are both 128 and their gain are both 8. The whole search mode is used to obtain the best excitation in algorithm. New algorithm's coding rate is only half of G.728 and has only 2.5 ms delay. Testing with the average segment SNR and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ), the improved algorithm is close to G.728 in speech coding quality. And it achieves desirable balance in coding rate, delay time and coding quality.

Abstract:The coding and decoding algorithm of recommendation G.722.2 and the TMS320C6416 are described briefly.The design of hardware and software in realtime implementation of G.722.2 vocoder based on TMS320C6416 are given, and the software design optimization is summarized. The experiment results of real-time implementation are also presented.

Abstract:Based on studying the G.729 speech coding algorithm, this paper describes the details of the ITU-T G.729 speech coder implementation using Texas Instruments' high-performance programmable TMS320C6x DSP family and the various techniques used in optimization. It can considerably reduce the calculation burden and the out speech still keeps a high reconstructed quality. This paper presents the simple techniques to extend the coder for multiple channels using a telecom application specific kernel, the multiple channel coding system can basically reach the demand of the application. Finally we give an evaluation of the real-time MCPS, memory requirements, processing delays and associate trade-offs of the coder using this DSP, and it is helpful for constructing other speech coders.

Abstract:Improving the overall performance of reliable speech communication in ultrashort wave radios over very noisy channels is of great importance and practical use. An iterative joint source-channel (de-)coding and (de-)modulation (JSCCM) algorithm is proposed for ITU-T Rec.G.729EV by both exploiting the residual redundancy and passing soft information throughout the receiver while introducing a systematic global iteration process. Being fully compatible with existing transmitter structure, the proposed algorithm does not introduce additional bandwidth expansion and transmission delay. Simulations show substantial error correcting performance and synthesized speech quality improvement over conventional separate designed systems in delay and bandwidth constraint channels by using the JSCCM algorithm.

Abstract:Aiming at real-time speech signal processing and application, an implementation scheme based on DSP chip and algorithm is presented. The G.729A encoding and decoding algorithm principles are analyzed, and a hardware platform of speech processing is constructed based on TMS320VC5416 processor and TLV320AIC23 audio codec. DSP application software is designed, McBSP connection and data transmission are configured, audio signal conversion processing is controlled, and G.729A encoding and decoding algorithm programs are optimized. Through debugging, the speech signal sampling, play and encoding/decoding functions are realized. Experimental results show the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:To reduce the computational amount and memory size of the HDTV(for DVB) audio decoder, the algorithm of sub-band synthesis filter has been optimized in this paper. Based on C-language simulation of the optimized decoder, fixed-point code has been converted from the floating-point code. This decoder can be realized in real-time on a fixed-point DSP, and it has a wide range of applications in HDTV source decoding and etc.

Abstract:Low bit rate speech coding is one of the most important and fundamental parts of modern digital communication network and multimedia techniques. This paper presents a high quality variable-rate speech coding at 2.4 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s and 800 bit/s based on the algorithm of multi-band excitation (MBE). The techniques of smoothing pitch period by using dynamic programming algorithm, LPC all-pole model to approximate the MBE spectral shape, formant enhancement, split vector quantizer, multi-stage vector quantizer, multilayer perception of neural networks, etc. are adopted to improve this vocoder. It is implemented in realtime by using a single ADSP2181 fixed point digital signal processor. The speech quality of the real-time system is satisfactory.

Abstract:The 16 kb/s Low Delay Code-Excited Linear Prediction(LD-CELP) has been used in many environments,however,the high bit rate required in this work have been a handicap in using it for some condition.In this paper,a speech coder using two stages code book search schemes is proposed to improve the performance of LD-CELP and reduce its bit rate.To develop the proposed speech coder with a low bit rate,two sub code books are explored:a backward updated adaptive sub code book and a fix sub code book with algebraic structure.Second,a two stages target vector search scheme is proposed to minimize the mean squared error between the filtered excitation vector and the target vector.As a result,a 10 kb/s dual code book CELP coder is proposed with a delay of 2.5 ms in sampling rate of 8 kHz.It is shown that the proposed speech coder has a comparable speech quality to 16 kb/s G.728 in Segmented Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SSNR) and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality(PESQ).

Abstract:This paper provides a reduced complexity version of the G.723.1 dual rate speech coder for multimedia communication transmitting at 5.3 & 6.3 kbit/s. This version is bit stream interoperable with the full version, i.e. a reduced complexity encoder may be used with a full implementation of the decoder. This simplified G.723.1 has been applied in a multimedia system, ITU-T H.324, that is implemented based on the PC platform of Windows95. The H.324 is the terminals for low bitrate multimedia communication, utilizing V.34 modems operating over the GSTN. H.324 terminals include the H.223 multiplex, H.245 control, H.263 video codec, and G.723.1 audio codec. The bottleneck for this system is the enormous computing quantity and current PC's speed. The video codec and the audio codec spend the most of the computing quantity. Intel MMX assembly of Pentium can be used effectively to reduced computing quantity for video codec H.263, but it does not work for audio G.723, as audio is represented in a different way from video. It is difficult to reduce the computing complexity of G.723. This paper provides a programs optimized and reduced complexity version of the G.723.1 audio codec. This version is a bit stream interoperable with the full version. A real-time test shows, the computing complexity of this optimized and simplified version of G.723.1 audio codec has been 33% of the full version. The quality of reconstructed audio in this version is almost the same as the full version.

Abstract:OpenH323 is an open source VoIP(Voice over IP)protocol stack. It supports H.323, SIP and other multimedia communication protocols and provides a good developing platform for multimedia applications. G.723.1 is an ITU standard for speech codecs which are mainly used for medium-rate and low-rate multimedia communication applications. At present, G.723.1 has been widely used in the IP phone systems. Based on the OpenH323 software-end, realizing the G.723.1 codec has very important application value. In this paper, the realization method of G.723.1 codec on the OpenH323 protocol stack is presented, and it can be extended to G.729 and other speech codecs.
Speech Coding and Transmission Algorithm Based on Multi Folded Barrel Shifting Majority Judgment

Abstract:A speech coding and transmission algorithm based on joint source and channel coding was proposed for real-time high quality speech communication with packet losses on high error rate wireless channels.The speech parameters of one frame are divided into different groups and coded by BCH codes.A multi folded barrel shifting algorithm is then fully utilized for encountering severe channel noise interference.At the decoder side,each speech data pack is extracted and decoded using the Berlekamp algorithm.A traversing and storing mechanism is used to further enhance the performance and the reconstructed the speech quality.The algorithm has no algorithm delay and uses less bandwidth while outperforming the traditional RS coding and deep interleaving algorithm not only in compensating for packet loss and for error resilience ability but also in the reconstructed voice quality for severe channel conditions.Simulations show that the residual error rate is reduced by 84.36% while the MOS(Mean Opinion Score) is improved by over 38.86%.

Abstract:A speech coding algorithm applied to narrowband transmission at very low bit rate is proposed.Based on the MELP standard working at 2.4kbps,joint vector quantization is applied to linear spectrum pair's parameters,interpolation and nonlinear quantization are applied to pitch,gain parameters are compressed efficiently and auditory perception is considered,speech data could be coded and transmitted smoothly at 0.5kbps The predicative residuals of linear spectrum pair's parameters are also used for vector quantization;it 's a suitable way of improving synthetic speech quality.The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm can ensure speech effective transmission at very low bit rate while the intelligibility of received speech is acceptable.

Abstract:In order to meet ITU requirement that the delay is less than 5ms and coding rate is 8Kbit/s, we presented an 8Kbit/s 2.5ms low delay speech coding algorithm named LD-aCELP [1]. The algorithm used adaptive codebook and backward pitch detection. LD-aCELP depended on the Levinson-Durbin (L-D) algorithm to update gain filter coefficients. To develop the coding quality, we used three different methods which were the weighted L-S recursive filter, the finite memory recursive filter and the BP neural network to compare with L-D. The gain filter and its coefficients were obtained by a new scheme to estimate SNR. To evaluate performances of these gain filters using this method, the results are all better than LD-aCELP. The weighted L-S algorithm has the best effect, which is accordant with real speech coding. Its average segment SNR is higher than LD-aCELP about 0.720dB.

Abstract:A high quality speech coding method MWI is presented. MWI advances the conventional WI coding method. MWI overcomes the inherent problems of the WI model and adopts a more reasonable waveform interpolation model, which includes a uniform synthesizer for unvoiced and voiced speech, new prototype extraction and description method and dynamic programming to improve the precision of pitch extraction. MWI does not rely on exact voiced/unvoiced determination and it has fairly good performance under noisy background. The parameter set of MWI is very suited for efficient quantization. With the reduction of the bit rates, the speech quality is deteriorating slowly and can give fairly good quality at the bit rate of 2 kb/s. A complete MWI vocoder is built, which has good intelligibility and naturalness.

Abstract:It addresses important issues on transcoding between different speech codes.Conventional transcoding algorithms on LSP conversion are refined with regard to the structure of coders.The performance of the proposed algorithms is verified by trancoding between AMR,G.723.1 and G.729A.Compared with traditional tandem transcoding schemes,the complexity is reduced by about 10% and speech quality is also improved.

Abstract:A novel audio coding algorithm named LDX for interactive real-time communications is proposed in this paper.Instead of traditional audio coding technology,LDX adopts short analysis windows with fixed length for low-delay purpose.Meanwhile,for the sake of obtaining high compression-ratios and high quality,the psychoacoustic model and stereo coding of LDX are modified and improved,thus to raise the coding efficiency,and with the integration of FFT and MDCT into the psychoacoustics analysis the algorithm complexity is reduced while the analysis precision enhanced.

Abstract:A window algorithm was developed for speech communications on Frequency-Hopping (FH) channels with wideband rejective interference. The transmitted bit stream is divided into equal slices with a fixed length sliding window. Several slices are transmitted as the data in one hop. The overlapped parts of the data of consecutive hops are compared to make a bad hop decision at the receiver. Each slice is error protected using Joint Maximum Posterior Probability decoding. Simulations show that the average segmental signal-to-noise ratio of the window algorithm exceeds that of the continuously variable slope delta algorithm by more than 20 dB for the same channel conditions.
