Abstract:Polymer phenylethnylcopper (PPhECu), a metal-organic polymer, is synthesized with strong photoelectric signal by self-assembly method at room temperature. The PPhECu owns special electronic structure, which can promote the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, producing a strong cathode photoelectric signal. In this work, p-type PPhECu is used as the photosensitive material to construct a cathode photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor for the detection of glucose with high sensitivity and selectivity. PPhECu produces photo-generated electrons and holes under visible light, and the electrons can be transferred to conduction band from valence band. Oxygen as an electron acceptor in the electrolyte can be reduced by photogenerated electrons to form superoxide radicals to amplify the photocurrent signal. When glucose is added, a part of oxygen is consumed in the oxidation of glucose catalyzed by glucose oxidase to produce gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide, resulting in the decline of photocurrent, which is linear to the increase of glucose level. The linear range for glucose detection is from 0.0005 to 5 mM with the detection limit of 0.16 mu M. This study shows that the metal organic polymer has a good application prospect in PEC sensors, which provides a new choice for photosensitive materials.
