Abstract:The present work focused on developing novel magnetic composite with low toxicity, easy separation and high catalytic capacity using a simple preparation for generating alternative fuel energy from waste substance. NiFe-layered double oxide (NiFe-LDO), ferric oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) and activated carbon (AC) derived from fish scale, were utilized as the precursors for preparing magnetic composite by solid-state method. The results of various techniques (XRD, FT-IR, SEM, elemental mapping, zeta potential, UV-VIS, VSM, BET and CO 2 -TPD) could confirm the presence of NiFe-LDO, FeOOH and AC in the composite with rising magnetism (4.0 emu/g), surface area (383 m 2 /g), and basicity (1.992 mmol/g). The as-synthesized composite was the excellent catalyst for biodiesel production (98 %) from waste cooking oil through transesterification based on the optimized conditions of methanol:oil ratio (12:1), catalyst dosage (5 %wt), reaction temperature (70 °C) and reaction time (90 min), with keeping the performance up to 5 th reusing run. This study may provide an alternative potential route for the biodiesel production using various waste oil with helping of magnetic separation.
