Abstract:TiO 2(T), Ti 0.5Zr 0.5O 2(TZ) and Ti 0.25Zr 0.25Al 0.5O 1.75 (TZA) were prepared by co-precipitation. Three monolith catalysts were prepared using MnO 2 and CeO 2 as active components supported on T, TZ and TZA, respectively. The catalysts were characterized, by N 2 adsorption-desorption at low temperature, oxygen storage capacity(OSC), NH 3-TPD and XPS. The low temperature catalytic activities as well as resistance to SO 2 and H 2O in the presence of excessive O 2 were studied. The results indicate that the catalyst of MnO 2-CeO 2/Ti 0.25Zr 0.25Al 0.5O 1.75(TZAC) possesses the largest specific surface area, oxygen storage capacity, pore volume, the most surface acidic amount and the strongest surface acidity, which are important for NH 3-Selective Catalytic Reaction(NH 3-SCR). The results of the activity test show that TZAC has the best catalytic activity at low temperature and quite wide temperature window, the light-off(conversion of 50%) temperature for NO is 102°C, and conversion of NO in the range of 175-325 °C is almost 100%. Further more, TZAC exhibits excellent resistance to SO 2 and H 2O.

Abstract:High-dispersed surface anatase TiO2 modified CuOX-CeOX catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and their activities for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 were investigated. The structure of TiO2 was found to influence the interactions between active components and support, which enhanced the NO adsorption and oxidation on catalyst surface under optimal conditions, thus activated the fast SCR reaction at a low temperature of 100°C.

Abstract:The reactions of NH3 and catalyst oxygen in MnOx/TiO2 catalysts were studied under gaseous O-2-deficient condition, in order to research N2O and NO formation from NH3 oxidation by catalyst oxygen and also to clarify the authentic role that MnOx/TiO2 catalysts played in the process. Furthermore, multiple characterization methods were applied to contrastively analyze the physical-chemical properties and the microstructures of the fresh catalyst and the served catalyst, so as to help investigate the possible intrinsic mechanism of N2O and NO generation. Experimental results validated that N2O and NO originated from NH3 oxidation by catalyst oxygen obviously, while the characterization results indicated that both the surface absorbed oxygen and the lattice oxygen participated in the process and resulted in the formation of N2O and NO. The consumption of catalyst oxygen led to the arising of new small pores inside the catalyst, bringing about the decrease of the average pore diameter and the increase of the total pore volume and the surface area of the catalyst. The NH3 oxidation process also made partial adjacent catalyst particles gather together, accounting for the aggregation and the non-uniform dispersion of catalyst particles.
Synthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Performance of Femntiox Mixed Oxides Catalyst Prepared by A Ctab-Assisted Process for Mid-Low Temperature Nh3-Scr

Abstract:A series of FeMnTiOx mixed oxides catalysts, which were synthesized by a CTAB-assisted co-precipitation process and calcined at different temperatures, were investigated for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 in the presence of excess O-2. The samples were characterized by means of N-2-physisorption, XRD, TEM, H-2-TPR, XPS, NH3-TPD, and in situ DRIFTS technologies. The results indicated that the activities of samples were not predominately determined by BET specific surface area. Compared with amorphous TiO2, the anatase TiO2 crystalline phase was more conducive to enhance the electron interaction between manganese species and support: Mn4+ + Ti3+ <-> Mn3+ + Ti4+center dot NH3 was easier to be activated on the surface of samples which had lower binding energy of lattice oxygen in selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3. The addition of CAB not only promoted the formation of anatase TiO2 crystalline phase and Lewis acid sites, but also improved the dispersion extent of active phase on the surface of samples. Thus, it enhanced the catalytic performance of samples. In addition, calcination temperature had an important influence on the valence state of manganese species, as well as the dispersion extent of active phase and the crystal phase structure of support. The sample calcined at 4000 degrees C showed excellent low-temperature activity and mid-temperature N-2 selectivity. The NO conversion and N-2 selectivity of this sample were above 90% in the range of 150-350 degrees C at a space velocity of 30,000 mL g(-1) h(-1). Abstract:NH3 oxidation over MnOx/TiO2 catalyst was studied in the work, and new insights into the process were provided. According to specially designed experiments, probable N2O formation routes were put forward, and the oxidizer role that gaseous O-2 and catalyst oxygen played in NH3 oxidation was analyzed by relevant characterization analysis. Experimental data demonstrated the promotion influence of O-2 on NH3 oxidation and on NO and N2O formation. N2O derived from the direct reaction between NH3 and oxygen or the two-step pathway of the prerequisite formation of NO and then the following non-selective catalytic reduction of NO. Characterization results indicated that as O-2 concentration increased, the participation of surface absorbed oxygen and lattice oxygen in NH3 oxidation decreased gradually, while the participation of gaseous O-2 increased significantly. The work helped to better understand the mechanism of N2O formation from NH3 oxidation over MnOx/TiO2.
Formation of Highly Active Superoxide Sites on CuO Nanoclusters Encapsulated in SAPO-34 for Catalytic Selective Ammonia Oxidation

Abstract:Generation of surface active sites with tailor-made structure is a promising way to enhance catalytic properties of inexpensive metal oxides, as a replacement to noble metals. In the abatement of NH3 emissions through selective oxidation to N-2, the nature of active sites over Cu-based catalysts plays a decisive role in determining activity and avoiding formation of NOx from excessive oxidation. In the present work, CuO nanoclusters are homogeneously confined in small pore zeolitic SAPO-34 crystals by a Trojan Horse approach, i.e, through combined use of Cu2+ containing complex and morpholine as structure-directing agents in the hydrothermal synthesis stage and a sequential Cu2+ cation impregnation followed by calcination, is presented. Nitrogen activation and reoxidation treatment lead to the formation of encapsulated CuO@SAPO-34 structure that showed promoted activities and N-2 selectivity for NH3 selective catalytic oxidation at relatively low temperatures (250 degrees C), with respect to catalysts obtained from ion-exchange or simple impregnation routes. The structure of catalytically active sites was unveiled to be Cu(II) superoxo species by a panoply of characterization techniques, including in situ Raman spectra, in situ DRIFT, as well as X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The catalytic activity at low temperatures (165-175 degrees C) was found to scale proportionally with the concentration of Cu(II) superoxo species measured by CO temperature-programmed reduction and O-2 temperature programmed desorption. The reaction mechanism for ammonia catalytic oxidation on Cu(II) superoxo species has also been discussed on the basis of in situ IR and temperature-programmed surface reaction studies. The tailored synthesis and identification of active sites lay the basis for the understanding of the structure-catalysis relationship and future catalyst design for NH3 elimination through selective oxidation.

Abstract:Mixed oxide catalysts yMn–Zr–Ti (y/10/10 with y = 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 in the presence of oxygen were synthesized by co-precipitation. The catalyst 5Mn–Zr–Ti exhibited a catalytic activity higher than 87% above 160 °C and N2 selectivity above 92% at 100–300 °C. The SCR performance was quite stable at 180 and 200 °C for 15 h. Mn species are shown to improve the catalytic activity by providing more surface labile oxygen, while a synergistic effect among Mn, Zr and Ti species suppressed the generation of N2O. According to in situ DRIFT analysis, NOx was primarily reduced by the reaction of bidentate nitrate and monodentate nitrito species with adsorbed NH3. Subsequently, a comprehensive reaction mechanism was proposed. Accordingly, the formation of NH species was inhibited, and hence, the N2O formation by the reaction of NH and bidentate nitrate was suppressed. Furthermore, the investigation of the deactivation mechanism by SO2 indicated that both the deposition of ammonium sulfates and the sulfation of Mn active sites resulted in the deactivation of the catalyst 5Mn–Zr–Ti. The deposition of ammonium sulfates at 180 °C was more pronounced than that at 220 °C.

Abstract:Novel Fe-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts were prepared for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia in the presence of excess oxygen. It was found that Fe(0.4)-MnOx catalyst showed the highest activity, yielding 98.8% NOx conversion and 100% selectivity of N-2 at 120 degrees C at a space velocity of 30 000 h(-1). XRD results suggested that a new crystal phase of Fe3Mn3O8 was formed in the Fe-MnOx catalysts. TPR and Raman data showed that there was a strong interaction between the iron oxide and manganese oxide, which is responsible for the formation of the active center-Fe3Mn3O8. Intensive analysis of fresh, used, and regenerated catalysts by XPS revealed that electron transfer between Fen+ and Mnn+ ions in Fe3Mn3O8 may account for the long lifetime of the Fe (0.4)-MnOx catalyst. In addition, the SCR activity was suppressed a little in the presence of SO2 and H2O, but it was reversible after their removal.

Abstract:Based on first-principles calculations and micro kinetic analysis, the reaction routes and origin of the activity of SmMn2O5 mullite for the selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia (NH3-SCO) are systematically investigated on three low-index surfaces under experimentally operating conditions. Key influencing factors and contributions of different iconic intermediate species (NH*, N2H4*, and HNO*) to the overall reaction process have been identified. In detail, Mn4+ serves as the primary active site for NH3 adsorption, while lattice oxygen participates in the dehydrogenation of NH3 on (010)4+ and (001)4+ surfaces. Furthermore, the (010)4+ surface shows both the best activity and the highest N2 selectivity at low temperatures via the synergy effect of exposed Mn???Mn dimers and the most labile O2 atoms. We further evaluate the potential catalytic performances of six A-site doped (010)4+ facets, among which La, Pr, and Nd dopings are predicted to possess better catalytic performances. Our study provides deep insights into the microscope reaction mechanisms and provides the specific optimization strategy for NH3-SCO on mullite oxides.
Nitrogen Promoted Electron Transfer to Create Highly Active Cu2+ and Mn3+ Sites for Efficient Catalytic Ozonation of Ammonia over Copper and Nitrogen Co-Doped Cryptomelane-Type Manganese Oxide at Ambient Temperature

Abstract:Eliminating ammonia (NH 3 ) from high -humidity exhaust gases by catalytic oxidation is a great challenge, especially at low temperatures. Herein, Cu and N co -doped cryptomelane-type manganese oxide (Cu-N-OMS-2) catalysts with high active Cu 2+ and Mn 3+ sites were synthesized and tested for catalytic ozonation of NH 3 at 30 degrees C. The optimal Cu 0.05 -N 2 -OMS-2 catalyst exhibited 93.8 % NH 3 conversion, 91.7 % O 3 conversion, and 92.1 % N 2 selectivity when the relative humidity (RH) was 40 %, whereas OMS-2 only demonstrated 39.3 %, 44.0 % and 83.1 %. Additionally, NH 3 and O 3 conversion at high RH could be recovered with just a basic water -washing, indicating that Cu 0.05 -N 2 -OMS-2 catalyst possessed outstanding renewable properties. The results of characterization revealed that N doping increased the amount of Cu fixed on the catalyst surface and promoted the electron transfer from Cu to Mn, resulting in an increase in electron -poor Cu 2+ and electron -rich Mn 3+ in Cu-NOMS-2. In dry conditions, the Mn 3+ sites provided O 3 with electrons to form adsorbed oxygen species and center dot O 2 - , which were essential for oxidation of adsorbed NH 3 . The electron -poor Cu 2+ sites combined with H 2 O and O 3 to form Cu -OH and center dot HO 3 , which facilitated the generation of center dot OH and center dot O 2 - , thereby improving the stability under humid conditions. This study provides a new theoretical guidance for the efficient removal of NH 3 in industrial exhaust gases.

Abstract:In this paper, the effects of mixed and dual-layer monolithic catalysts on NH 3 conversion efficiency and by-product formation performance were studied under different conditions, in order to find a coating structure with both high activity and high N 2 selectivity. The results show that in the absence of NO, the dual-layer structure of Cu-SSZ-13 as the top layer and Ag/Al 2 O 3 as the bottom layer reduces the NH 3 conversion efficiency, and the NH 3 conversion efficiency further decreases with the increase of the catalyst loading on the top layer, and this trend is further strengthened at higher space velocity. However, the dual-layer catalyst significantly reduces the formation of NOx byproducts. At 600 °C, NO decreases from 305 ppm in single-layer to 51, 40 and 35 ppm respectively, NO 2 and N 2 O are hardly produced on the dual-layer structure catalyst. In the presence of NO, the dual-layer catalyst is conducive to improving the conversion efficiency of NH 3 and NO, and the conversion efficiency of NH 3 and NO will be further improved with the increase of Cu-SSZ-13 catalyst loading. In addition, the results of catalytic oxidation performance of mixed structure and dual-layer catalyst under different air conditions show that the mixed structure catalyst has a higher NH 3 conversion efficiency than the dual-layer catalyst in the absence of NO, but the by-product generation amount of the mixed structure catalyst is slightly higher than that of the dual-layer catalyst. In the presence of NO, the dual-layer catalyst showed a higher NO conversion efficiency than the mixed catalyst.

Dual Effect of Sulfation on the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO with NH3 over MnOx/TiO2: Key Factor of NH3 Distribution

Abstract:The sulfation showed a dual effect on the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reaction over MnOx/TiO2. The activation of adsorbed NH3 and the adsorption of NO on MnOx/TiO2 were both restrained after the sulfation. Therefore, the SCR reaction through the Eley-Rideal mechanism and that through the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism were both restrained, resulting in an obvious decrease of NO conversion below 300 degrees C. During NO reduction over MnOx/TiO2 at higher temperatures, there was a competition among the SCR reaction, the nonselective catalytic reduction (NSCR) reaction and the catalytic oxidation of NH3 to NO. The NSCR reaction and the catalytic oxidation of NH3 to NO over MnOx/TiO2 at higher temperatures were both restrained after the sulfation, so more NH3 adsorbed on sulfated MnOx/TiO2 was used to reduce NO to N-2. Therefore, the SCR activity and N-2 selectivity of sulfated MnOx/TiO2 at higher temperatures were much higher than those of MnOx/TiO2.

Abstract:Unsupported manganese oxide catalysts with amorphous phase were prepared by three methods, and their activities for SCR of NOx with ammonia were investigated in the presence of O2. The results showed the catalysts have superior low temperature activity, and the NOx conversion is about 98% at 80°C, and nearly 100% NOx conversion between 100 and 150°C. Due to competing adsorption with the reactant, H2O has slight impact on the activity. The activity was suppressed with coexisting of SO2, however the deactivation of SO2 is reversible. The excellent low temperature catalytic activity of amorphous MnOx catalysts is mainly due to their amorphous phase and high specific areas.
Ag Size/Structure-Dependent Effect on Low-Temperature Selective Catalytic Oxidation of NH 3 over Ag/MnO 2

Abstract:Selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia (NH3-SCO) into N2 and H2O is considered to be a promising technique to eliminate NH3 pollution. Various Ag/MnO2 catalysts were prepared and applied to low-temperature (especially <100 °C) NH3-SCO. The Ag/MnO2-X (X indicating the calcination temperature) catalyst had a variable Ag size and structure depending on the calcination temperature from 200 to 500 °C. The Ag/MnO2-400 catalyst showed 10% NH3 conversion at 35 °C, and the temperature was 90 °C for the complete removal of 50 ppm NH3. More importantly, the N2 selectivities of NH3-SCO over Ag/MnO2-400 at the temperatures ranging from 30 to 120 °C were higher than 96%. Turnover frequencies of NH3 oxidation, N2 selectivity, and byproducts depended on the Ag size/structure. Ag/MnO2-400 with Ag particles of 2.4 nm diameter had the highest density of Ag particles over rod-shaped MnO2 during the reaction, which would be favorable for the formation of adsorbed NO and NH2NO intermediates to form N2 and H2O.

Abstract:Electrochemical ammonia oxidation process through active chlorine has been proposed as a potentially effective method for ammonia removal. Currently, most of the anodes require to use high-stable TiO2 loaded with large particles of noble metal Ru or Ir, which have low activity and high cost. Herein, we prepare ultrasmall and uniform metal nanoparticles of Ir on TiO2 to remove ammonia. Moreover, we use non-noble metal Fe to replace noble metals. The ammonia removal efficiency of Fe/TiO2 under 2 VVS Ag / AgCl during 2 h is 100 % and 94 % of ammonia is converted to N2. The Fe/TiO2 anodes not only have higher catalytic activity but also show excellent stability and reusability. Fe/TiO2 anodes still exhibit excellence activity and selectivity after 1 year. As a common metal, Fe will have more application space than iridium in ammonia removal for its low cost and selectively high efficiency.

Abstract:The selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia (NH3-SCO) to N2 and H2O at low temperatures was studied to remove low-concentration (50 ppm) NH3 from the air. A series of mordenite (M20)-supported Pt-Au alloy catalysts with different Pt:Au ratios were synthesized and tested in the NH3-SCO. The NH3 conversion and N2 selectivity both depended on the ratio of Pt to Au. The 0.52 wt% Pt84Au16/M20 catalyst showed the highest NH3 conversion (90% at 144 °C) even better than Pt100/M20, which was ascribed to the combination of electron-deficient Pt and electron-rich Au in the alloy nanoparticles. The effects of acid sites on the NH3-SCO were investigated by NaOH treatment of Pt84Au16/M20 catalyst. Results suggested that the acid sites could help to increase NH3 conversion, and that Brønsted acid sites are essential for the selective formation of N2.

Abstract:Mn–Ce–OX catalysts loaded on TiO2-carbonaceous materials were prepared by sol–gel method. Selective catalytic reduction of NOX was conducted in a fixed-bed flow-reactor over catalysts coated on aluminum plates. A de-NOX efficiency of more than 90% was obtained over the Mn–Ce–OX/TiO2-carbon nanotubes (CNTs) catalyst between 75°C and 225°C under a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of ~36,000h−1. This activity improvement is attributed to the increase of the BET surface area, and the occurrence of reaction between adsorbed NOX and NH3. Moreover, the de-NOX efficiency was increased to 99.6% by adding 250ppm SO2 between 100°C and 250°C.
Preparation of Cr-Mn Mixed Oxide by Coprecipitation and Its Performance for Low-Temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx

Abstract:A series of Cr-Mn mixed-oxide catalysts comprising a novel CrMn1.5O4 crystal phase were prepared by the coprecipitation method and applied to low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 in the presence of O-2. The experimental results showed that the NOx conversion increased with the increase of Cr content and peaked at the Cr(0.4)-MnOx catalyst with the molar ratio of Cr/(Mn+Cr) = 0.4, which yielded nearly 90% NOx conversion at 140 degrees C with a high space velocity of 30 000 h(-1). The characterization of N-2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated that the addition of Cr generated the novel CrMn1.5O4 crystal phase and adjusted the surface electronic properties, leading to the enrichment of higher oxidation states Mn4+ and Mn3+ on the surface. This promotes the oxidation of NOx and is helpful for the adsorption of NH3, so that the catalyst exhibits higher low-temperature SCR activity.
Interactions between CO oxidation and selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 over Mn-based catalysts

Abstract:The simultaneous reaction of CO oxidation and selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR) is of great challenge in heterogeneous catalysis, especially at low temperatures, and the interaction between these two reactions is not clear. In this work, a series of α-MnO2-M (M=Fe, Co, Ce, Cu) nanorod catalysts were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst showed the highest catalytic performance with over 85% NOx and CO removal efficiency from 150 to 250°C. The addition of Cu specie increased the redox ability, total oxygen storage, surface acidic sites and total CO adsorption capacity, which should be responsible for the enhanced SCR and CO oxidation activity of the α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst. The interaction of CO oxidation and SCR reaction has been investigated over α-MnO2-Cu nanorod catalyst. The CO reduced the NO adsorption, which further inhibited the L-H mechanism, reduced the SCR activity and narrowed the temperature window, especially the reduction of N2 selectivity. The NH3 negatively affected CO oxidation by reducing the generation of the Mn-COO formate intermediate, while the NO promoted CO oxidation through the decomposition of intermediates, which was formed by the combination of nitrate and nitrite with gaseous CO. When NH3 and NO existed together, CO oxidation was dominated by the promotional effect of NO.
