Abstract:Due to its high spectrum efficiency and high coverage, the SFN (single frequency network) has been used more and more widely. The article explains the basic concepts and technical features of SFN. It also introduces the SFN of the three main DTTB (digital television terrestrial broadcasting) standards (the 8-VSB modulation system developed by ATSC, DVB-T and ISDB-T). A new implementation of SFN is also proposed based on DMB-T (digital multimedia broadcasting for terrestrial). It realizes the time synchronization of all transmitters in the SFN by means of the insertion of a megaframe initialization packet (MIP) in the MPEG-2 transport stream. This method is proved to be reliable through field experiments.

Abstract:Single frequency network (SFN) has been widely used in digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) systems. In this paper, we propose a SFN structure for DTMB systems using satellite links as the main program distribution networks. The proposed structure is more suitable for constructing national wide or large area DTTB SFN under complicated environments. The network structure and key technologies of the proposed SFN are analyzed detailedly in this paper. Laboratory tests and field trials are presented to prove the validity of the network design. Experiment results indicate that the proposed scheme can support practical DTTB applications.

Abstract:The single frequency network structure based on terrestrial digital multimedia/ television broadcasting(DMB-T was implemented by synchronizing each signal frame in real time.A mega-frame initialization packet(MIP inserted in the transport stream(TS every mega-frame contains information on the network delay and synchronization stamp.A simple calculation gives the local additional delay which will allow synchronization of all the transmitters in the network.Field trials of the single frequency network validate the feasibility of scheme based on DMB-T.

Abstract:Due to its high spectrum efficiency, the Single Frequency Network (SFN) has been widely used in digital terrestrial multimedia broadcasting (DTMB) system, which is the Chinese national digital television terrestrial broadcasting standard. In the conventional SFN realization for DTMB, the synchronization between different transmitters in the distributed network is achieved with the second initialization packet (SIP) inserted in the MPEG-2 transport stream (TS). In this paper, a suggested SFN structure for DTMB without SIP insertion is proposed. The performance is shown through the simulation and Lab test results.

Abstract:Orthogonal frequency division multiplex-single frequency network (OFDM-SFN) has been widely used in the digital audio broadcasting system (DAB) and the terrestrial digital video broadcasting system (DVB-T) as a scheme of downlink broadcasting service. A novel system structure of single frequency cellular network (SFCN) is proposed by applying OFDM-SFN to conventional cellular systems. Transmitter macrodiversity and receiver selective diversity are adopted in the downlink and the uplink respectively. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation in comparison with conventional cellular systems demonstrate the performance improvement of the proposed system.

Abstract:With the co-efforts from Zhejiang University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xidian Universi-ty,a transmission scheme of the Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System(ADTB)is presented in this paper.The simulated system functions and performance are superior to that of international DTV transmission standards.A stable fixed,portable and even mobile reception of large volume broadcasting data can be attained with a consumer grade tuner and various modulation modes.The scheme is also designed to support SFN and on-channel repeater functions,to incorporate efficient digital cable transmission modes,and to be easily compatible with some foreign standards.The presented scheme is one of the ideal candidates of DTV broadcasting standards being defined in our country.[

Abstract:This chapter discusses the issues of coverage and network planning of DTV terrestrial broadcasting networks and gives a detailed introduction of single-frequency networks (SFNs). For analog TV signal transmission, distortion due to nonperfect channel and system nonlinearity always exists, while in DTTB systems, these errors might be corrected by FEC, and the original information bit sequence can be correctly restored. When broadcasting network planning is performed, the position of the transmitter is determined based on certain criteria, such as the largest possible population coverage, the minimum cochannel interference, environmental factors, and economic factors. Also, the interference from the DTTB system to analog TV services should be less than the mutual interference among analog TV systems. Some countries have decided to offset the center frequency of DTV signals to reduce the impact from the analog signals when doing DTTB system frequency planning.

Abstract:To improve the transmission performance of Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting (DMB-T) system, the performance of an efficient space-frequency transmitter diversity scheme is introduced in this article. This scheme maintains the original transmitter branch and the network structure is simple to upgrade. DMB-T system is an important candidate for Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) standard. The system was simulated over both slow and fast fading DTTB channels. Simulation results show that the introduced transmitter diversity scheme can efficiently improve the system performance in fading environments. © 2005 IEEE.

Abstract:The digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) system is one of the most important wireless broadcasting systems, but its indoor coverage performance is not satisfactory enough. The visible light communication (VLC) system works well for indoor scenarios and becomes a quite appealing technology that can realize indoor wireless communications. In this paper, we propose a hybrid system called the radio-optics hybrid single frequency network (SFN) with wide and reliable coverage for DTTB. The current SFN structure of DTTB is maintained, while the optical signal within visible wavelength is adopted to achieve seamless connection between outdoor and indoor. Based on the identical intermediate frequency, the hybrid receiver with antennas and photodiodes can not only receive radio and optical signals individually or simultaneously, but also combine the received signals from different transmitters in the analog/digital domain with various combination methods. The feasibility of the radio-optics hybrid system is verified by the experiment implemented in the laboratory. Furthermore, the proposed hybrid system has great potential to improve other extended applications of DTTB, including positioning, interactivity, scalable video coding, etc.

Abstract:As the most popularly utilized broadcasting network, digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) can provide multimedia information coverage for the broad audience in a very efficient way because of its characteristic of wide-range coverage and mobile reception ability. After promulgating the first generation DTTB standard, digital terrestrial/television multimedia broadcasting (DTMB), in 2006, China began to research and develop the next generation DTTB standard, namely DTMB-advanced (DTMB-A), aiming to support higher spectrum efficiency and further improve transmission reliability. In 2019, DTMB-A was accepted by ITU as the second generation international DTTB standard (as System C). Similar to DTMB, time-domain synchronous - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) based multi-carrier modulation scheme is adopted by DTMB-A. Thanks to the more flexible frame structure, advanced error correction coding and improved constellation mapping, DTMB-A offers 30% higher transmission capacity than DTMB under the same transmission conditions. Thus, DTMB-A can support both fixed and mobile reception more efficiently, and provide users with higher quality services such as ultra-high definition television (UHDTV). This paper first gives details of key technologies at the transmitter of DTMB/DTMB-A and introduce core algorithms at the receiver. Both laboratory test and field trial results will then be provided and analyzed, especially for the application of 4K UHDTV and single frequency network (SFN).

Abstract:The paper presents a new terrestrial digital multimedia/TV broadcasting transmission system:(DMB-T)DMB-T is designed for the transmission channel with both time selective and frequency selective characteristics.A novel multi-carrier modulation scheme called TDS-OFDM(Time Domain Synchronous Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)is introduced in the DMB-T.TDS-OFDM can be viewed as a zero-padded OFDM signal time division multiplexed by a coded PN sequences.The coded PN sequences can be used to fulfill all the functions,such as carrier recovery,timing recovery,frame synchronization,frame addressing,time domain equalization,and channel estimation before OFDM de-modulation.Also,a new FEC(Forward Error Control)scheme call multi-layer block product code is applied in the DMB-T to make the high performance Turbo decoding algorithm feasible for the64QAM constellation.[

Abstract:As the demand for broadband wireless access services grows rapidly, much attention has been paid to integrated communication and broadcast networks (ICBN). ICBN can provide high-rate, on-demand, reliable data and multimedia services while in fast moving. In this paper, we introduce an ICBN system in which DMB-T broadcast network works as the forward link and wireless access networks are used for the return channel respectively. We first differentiate four types of services, including digital TV, video on demand, data download and Internet access. Then the system features are given. Next, we design the system architecture and the three subsystems, including the DMB-T broadcast network, the return channel and the terminal. With the introduction of subnetwork data unit (SNDU), the protocol to transmit data on DMB-T broadcast network is presented. We also stack the functions of the system into different layers in terms of four types of services, and introduce each of them, including signaling messages exchange and ARQ scheme, etc. Then the testbed is briefly introduced. Finally we draw the conclusion.

Abstract:Requirement of the Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) and channel characters of the DTTB is described in this paper. On the basis of existing international standards of DTTB, the DMB-T (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting) standard is innovated by Digital TV RD Center of Tsinghua University.
