Abstract:This paper describes the transmission scheme for the terrestial ISDB system. First, a general system level introduction is presented. It is followed by the detailed description of channel coding, modulation mode and the structure of the receiver. In addition, a brief comparison is also presented for the ISDB-T system and the DVB-T system since they both use OFDM modulation scheme.

Abstract:With the co-efforts from Zhejiang University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xidian Universi-ty,a transmission scheme of the Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System(ADTB)is presented in this paper.The simulated system functions and performance are superior to that of international DTV transmission standards.A stable fixed,portable and even mobile reception of large volume broadcasting data can be attained with a consumer grade tuner and various modulation modes.The scheme is also designed to support SFN and on-channel repeater functions,to incorporate efficient digital cable transmission modes,and to be easily compatible with some foreign standards.The presented scheme is one of the ideal candidates of DTV broadcasting standards being defined in our country.[

Abstract:There is a worldwide impact to the TV broadcasting and consumer electronics industries starting from the decision of the FCC, of which the transition period of SDTV to digital will be completed in the year of 2006. The digital television era seems to be arriving earlier than that has ever been expected. How to face the challenge of this new era is a serious concern of the industries at present. The VSB transmission system is accepted for terrestrial broadcasting of DTV in the US. As a counterpart, the COFDM system is accepted for DVB. It is natural of interested to investigate these two transmission schemes and compare the performance and the methods of implementation. The simulation results of their performance are presented and a comparison of the hardware implementations is included

Abstract:This paper describes the realization of the VSB modulation subsystem of the VSB-based HDTV terrestrial broadcasting system, which is part of China's HDTV development project. It gives an overview of the system requirements, as well as some basic considerations of the hardware implementation. Algorithms, and architectures of the main modules, such as the modulator, the carrier phase tracking loop, and the timing recovery loop, are presented, and the implementation results and features are also described.

Abstract:This paper proposes an implementation scheme of symbol-processing in DVB-S receiver. By using Secondary Encode and special sync-searching byte-recovering circuits, not only the processing time reduces remarkably, but also needs less hardware resource. This scheme has already been applied in the chip design of satellite digital television.

Abstract:In this paper the channel characters of the Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) are described. Then the channel coding schemes in the DMB-T (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting) protocol developed by Digital TV R&D Center of Tsinghua University are presented. Compared with other schemes in those existing international standards, a conclusion can be drawn that the DMB-T protocol has more excellent error-control performance.

Abstract:As an effective digital modulation scheme, OFDM is widely used in wideband digital communication systems, such as DVB-T. In this paper, an all-digitized OFDM demodulator for DVB-T is proposed. Based on the analysis of those factors that interfere with demodulation, the architecture of demodulator is presented. Then functional modules that implement digitized demodulator, such as symbol synchronization, carrier synchronization, clock synchronization, and channel compensation, are explained. At the end, the BER performance of the demodulator is given. As the result shows, the all-digitized demodulator has good performance.

Abstract:During the present decade, DVB-T has been the most widely-used standard for digital terrestrial television in the world. This paper analyzes phase noise effects on the performance of DVB-T system and presents two methods of the CPE (common phase error) equalization which adapted to the DVB-T system and are easy to be implemented with hardware. Simulation results show that the methods are very effective, especially in fading channels.

Abstract:This paper details on the design of DVB-S2 receivers which is compliant with the broadcasting mode. Special attention is paid to the specific receiver functions necessary to demodulate the received signal. To show the system performance we consider the design of a complete receiver consisting of timing recovery unit, frame synchronization unit, frequency recovery unit and phase recovery unit. The system is easier to hardware implementation comparing with that provided in (ETSI, 2005; Sun et al. , 2004). After the performance of the algorithms is analyzed and a quantitative result is given, this allows us to draw conclusions concerning the achievable system performance under realistic complexity assumptions.

Abstract:Digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) has been developing rapidly in recent years. In this paper the channel characters of the DTTB are described. Then a channel coding architecture adopted in the DMB-T (terrestrial digital multimedia/television broadcasting) protocol is presented. This scheme introduces turbo code and turbo-TCM code into DTTB. Simulation results of C/N threshold and bit-error-rate (BER) curves with QPSK and 64QAM modulation have also been shown for this architecture. Compared with other schemes in existing international standards, a conclusion can be drawn that the channel coding scheme presented in this paper has better performance.

Abstract:The paper presents a new terrestrial digital multimedia/TV broadcasting transmission system:(DMB-T)DMB-T is designed for the transmission channel with both time selective and frequency selective characteristics.A novel multi-carrier modulation scheme called TDS-OFDM(Time Domain Synchronous Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)is introduced in the DMB-T.TDS-OFDM can be viewed as a zero-padded OFDM signal time division multiplexed by a coded PN sequences.The coded PN sequences can be used to fulfill all the functions,such as carrier recovery,timing recovery,frame synchronization,frame addressing,time domain equalization,and channel estimation before OFDM de-modulation.Also,a new FEC(Forward Error Control)scheme call multi-layer block product code is applied in the DMB-T to make the high performance Turbo decoding algorithm feasible for the64QAM constellation.[

Abstract:A channel coding and modulation scheme adopted in digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) is presented, in which multilevel block product code is introduced to replace the serially concatenated coding architectures to improve spectrum efficiency and a multi-resolution 64QAM constellation is used for hierarchical modulation to offer three tiers of services within one DTTB channel. In the receiver, an iterative turbo decoding algorithm based on MAX-LOG-MAP criterion is adopted to achieve robust reception. Simulation shows that the bit SNR (signal to noise ratio) of high priority stream is about 7 dB at the threshold of visibility, which is competent for services requiring high reliability. The medium and low Priority streams can support fixed outdoor reception.

Abstract:The paper presents a TDS-OFDM (time domain synchronization orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) transmission method used in BRadio downlink. TDS-OFDM, which is designed for broadband wireless transmission channel with both time selective and frequency selective characteristics, has been applied in terrestrial digital multimedia/TV broadcasting (DMB-T) transmission system. Based on DMB-T and other broadband mobile wireless communication systems we have researched, we improve the system scheme on frame structure, OFDM symbol and subcarrier allocations to make TDS-OFDM suitable for broadband mobile wireless communication system.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to introduce the DMB-T (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia / Television Broadcasting) protocol developed by Digital TV Transmission Technique R&D Center of Tsinghua University. In this paper the requirements of the Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) are presented. Then the existing international standards announced by USA, Europe and Japan are discussed in brief and the structure and critical techniques of the DMB-T system are described. Simulation results have proved that the DMB-T protocol has good performance and valuable characters.

Abstract:The transmission performance of digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) was improved using Turbo code based on the channel conditions and the DTTB transmission requirements in connection with 16QAM constellation and OFDM modulation. A new parallel concatenated trellis code was constructed as the kernel of the serially concatenated coding scheme. In the receiver the MAX-LOG-MAP iterative decoding algorithm with a sliding window was used as a compromise between system complexity and performance and to avoid trellis termination. Simulations for bit-error-rate on an additive white gaussian noise channel showed that at the threshold of visibility the required E _b/ N _0 was only 3.4 dB, which is 1.8 dB better than the reference schemes. At the field strength level, the system is able to support robust digital video transmission at a net information rate of about 12.5 Mb/s.

Abstract:In this paper high-coding-rate block turbo codes (BTC) are adopted in digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) to replace the conventional applications of serially concatenated codes. A new multi-resolution 64QAM constellation is designed for hierarchical modulation to offer three tiers of services with dedicated protection in one DTTB channel. In the receiver, the simulation result on fixed-point iterative turbo decoding algorithm based on MAX-LOG-MAP criterion is aided to develop the ASIC core. Simulation in terms of bit-error-rate (BER) on additive white Gaussian noise channel shows that the required Eb/NO High priority stream is only 3.9 dB at the threshold of visibility, which makes it more competent for mobile and indoor reception or other error-sensitive services. At the same time, the medium and low priority streams can support fixed outdoor reception.

Abstract:To improve the transmission performance of Terrestrial Digital Multimedia/Television Broadcasting (DMB-T) system, the performance of an efficient space-frequency transmitter diversity scheme is introduced in this article. This scheme maintains the original transmitter branch and the network structure is simple to upgrade. DMB-T system is an important candidate for Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) standard. The system was simulated over both slow and fast fading DTTB channels. Simulation results show that the introduced transmitter diversity scheme can efficiently improve the system performance in fading environments. © 2005 IEEE.
