Abstract:With the co-efforts from Zhejiang University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xidian Universi-ty,a transmission scheme of the Advanced Digital Television Broadcasting System(ADTB)is presented in this paper.The simulated system functions and performance are superior to that of international DTV transmission standards.A stable fixed,portable and even mobile reception of large volume broadcasting data can be attained with a consumer grade tuner and various modulation modes.The scheme is also designed to support SFN and on-channel repeater functions,to incorporate efficient digital cable transmission modes,and to be easily compatible with some foreign standards.The presented scheme is one of the ideal candidates of DTV broadcasting standards being defined in our country.[

Abstract:There is a worldwide impact to the TV broadcasting and consumer electronics industries starting from the decision of the FCC, of which the transition period of SDTV to digital will be completed in the year of 2006. The digital television era seems to be arriving earlier than that has ever been expected. How to face the challenge of this new era is a serious concern of the industries at present. The VSB transmission system is accepted for terrestrial broadcasting of DTV in the US. As a counterpart, the COFDM system is accepted for DVB. It is natural of interested to investigate these two transmission schemes and compare the performance and the methods of implementation. Abstract:A new type equalizer for HDTV transmission system based on VSB technology to cope with severely distorted channel situation is proposed. The ordinary equalizer, decision feedback (DFE) structure and recursive equalizing algorithm is used. Because of the multipath spreading in FIR, the ordinary DFE has a slow convergence of the weight coefficient in the former condition, and the recursive algorithm cannot work with the signal submerged in interference. The new equalizer adopts indirect equalizing style and new algorithm is used for fast estimation of the channel impulse responses used as initial weight coefficients of the adaptive equalizer. A modified DFE structure of decision feedback equalizer is proposed to get faster convergence of weight coefficients. The simulation results show that the new style equalizer can work well in severely distorted propagation channel while the ordinary equalizer cannot, and it was tested in Brazil.

Abstract:Interchannel interference(ICI) is a dominant source of error for OFDM systems in mobile dispersive fading channels. This paper provides an ICI analysis in time-variant multipath channels. Based on this analysis, the paper proposes an efficient channel estimation and ICI mitigation method for DVB-T/H system and further proposes and improved algorithm. The whole receiver system based on FPGA has been successfully aligned and debugged. The rationality and robustness of the design has been verified.

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient all digital implementation method of VSB modulator used for HDTV terrestrial transmission. It uses only four simple similar spectrum shaping filters to complete the VSB signal generation and the pilot insertion is novelly optimized to several addition operations, which greatly reduces the hardware complexity. Most of the circuitry runs at a speed of only half of the input symbol rate, which results in relatively low power consumption. Furthermore, the presented architecture is able to complete the QAM modulation via only bypassing a few logic components. Prototypes implemented by this method are now under field trial, and it has already shown good spectrum quality. This method is quite suited for VLSI implementation

Abstract:To efficiently support the transmission of terrestrial and mobile services within the same spectrum over the Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) system, a flexible multi-service datacasting scheme in a backward compatible manner is proposed. Using this scheme, the conventional DTMB receivers work as usual by simply selecting the specific terrestrial DTV programs on the basis of the package identifier (PID) checking, while only the desired mobile service data are processed by the mobile receivers via the designed control signals. Both theoretical analysis and computer simulation show that, at acceptable spectral efficiency penalty, the proposed method not only supports the embedded transmission of multi-services with no reception performance degradation for the traditional terrestrial broadcasting service, but also flexibly provides much better mobile reception performance.

Abstract:This paper describes design and implementation of an end-to-end system which implements digital television (DTV) multicasting to the home over broadband IP access network. We have developed a DTV-IP gateway for introducing DTV programs from broadcasting network into IP network with special considerations of the challenges, which consist of different service models and different protocols when deploying DTV services between the traditional satellite, cable or terrestrial network and the broadband IP network. According to different application scenario, the DTV-IP gateway can output two types of streams: CBR (constant bit-rate) transport stream (TS) over IP and VBR (variable bit-rate) TS over IP. Moreover, we have proposed a method to auto-regenerate the standard CBR TS from VBR TS over IP for the standard set-top-box (STB) with consideration of timing synchronization. This end-to-end system has been verified to work well in the broadband IP access network environment.

Abstract:This paper introduces a 8K ultra-high definition digital television transmission system based on DTMB-A. The system transmits 8K digital TV programs through two DTMB-A signals, and the data rate can reach 80 Mb/s. The bit error rate of the system is measured to be zero, and digital TV signals with 8K resolution can be transmitted normally without mosaic.

Abstract:The paper presents a new terrestrial digital multimedia/TV broadcasting transmission system:(DMB-T)DMB-T is designed for the transmission channel with both time selective and frequency selective characteristics.A novel multi-carrier modulation scheme called TDS-OFDM(Time Domain Synchronous Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)is introduced in the DMB-T.TDS-OFDM can be viewed as a zero-padded OFDM signal time division multiplexed by a coded PN sequences.The coded PN sequences can be used to fulfill all the functions,such as carrier recovery,timing recovery,frame synchronization,frame addressing,time domain equalization,and channel estimation before OFDM de-modulation.Also,a new FEC(Forward Error Control)scheme call multi-layer block product code is applied in the DMB-T to make the high performance Turbo decoding algorithm feasible for the64QAM constellation.[

Abstract:To efficiently accommodate the terrestrial broadcasting service and the mobile service within the same spectrum over Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) system, a novel multi-service datacasting scheme in a backward compatible manner is proposed in this paper. In this scheme, an equivalent QAM (E-QAM) mapping method is adopted for mobile services. Moreover, to reduce the impact of the larger peak to average power ratio (PAPR)caused by the E-QAM, a random constellation extension (RCE)technique is further proposed. Both theoretical analysis and computer simulation show that this scheme not only supports the normal reception of the traditional terrestrial broadcasting service in DTMB receivers, but also provides better mobile reception performance at acceptable spectral efficiency penalty.

Abstract:This paper presents the implementation of a new test and analysis platform that the authors have developed for testing transport stream of HDTV system. This platform can exchange the data with the tested moulds in high speed though PCI bus. With the using of the multi-thread scheduling algorithm in the structure, this platform can carry out simple real-time analysis of transport stream. In some cases, this platform can also be used to deal with the more complex and sophisticated off-line transport stream analysis. The platform allows real time diagnose, which can't be implemented by traditional video testing tools, of HDTV transport stream. The platform also includes DVB. This platform has been applied in video encoder subproject of China's HDTV project.

Abstract:As the most popularly utilized broadcasting network, digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) can provide multimedia information coverage for the broad audience in a very efficient way because of its characteristic of wide-range coverage and mobile reception ability. After promulgating the first generation DTTB standard, digital terrestrial/television multimedia broadcasting (DTMB), in 2006, China began to research and develop the next generation DTTB standard, namely DTMB-advanced (DTMB-A), aiming to support higher spectrum efficiency and further improve transmission reliability. In 2019, DTMB-A was accepted by ITU as the second generation international DTTB standard (as System C). Similar to DTMB, time-domain synchronous - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) based multi-carrier modulation scheme is adopted by DTMB-A. Thanks to the more flexible frame structure, advanced error correction coding and improved constellation mapping, DTMB-A offers 30% higher transmission capacity than DTMB under the same transmission conditions. Thus, DTMB-A can support both fixed and mobile reception more efficiently, and provide users with higher quality services such as ultra-high definition television (UHDTV). This paper first gives details of key technologies at the transmitter of DTMB/DTMB-A and introduce core algorithms at the receiver. Both laboratory test and field trial results will then be provided and analyzed, especially for the application of 4K UHDTV and single frequency network (SFN).

Abstract:In this paper a channel coding and modulation scheme for providing HDTV broadcasting services is presented, which adopts BICM structure as inner code in connection with 64QAM constellation and OFDM transmission. A new mapping method is designed to maximize the minimum Euclidean distance between signal points divided by feedback bits, thus an iterative algorithm between demodulator and decoder can be performed to acquire performance improvement. Analysis, simulation and laboratory test results,have proved that the proposed system has good SNR performance in both AWGN and multipath channels.

Abstract:In this paper high-coding-rate block turbo codes (BTC) are adopted in digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB) to replace the conventional applications of serially concatenated codes. A new multi-resolution 64QAM constellation is designed for hierarchical modulation to offer three tiers of services with dedicated protection in one DTTB channel. In the receiver, the simulation result on fixed-point iterative turbo decoding algorithm based on MAX-LOG-MAP criterion is aided to develop the ASIC core. Simulation in terms of bit-error-rate (BER) on additive white Gaussian noise channel shows that the required Eb/NO High priority stream is only 3.9 dB at the threshold of visibility, which makes it more competent for mobile and indoor reception or other error-sensitive services. At the same time, the medium and low priority streams can support fixed outdoor reception.

Abstract:Data broadcast is a new kind of value-add service of DTV broadcasting and some data broadcast protocols have already been established. However, these protocols only describe the method for locating files in data streams, method on how to distribute large collection of files in one or more data streams is not provided. Research on this problem mainly focus on how to decrease the wait time and some methods of allocating files on multiple streams based on access probability are proposed, but how to assign the file with a reasonable bandwidth is ignored. In this paper, we introduced an object multiplex algorithm to optimize the allocation of objects on DTV channel. This method assigns different bandwidth statistically to different object according to its size and access probability. In this method, both download time and wait time are considered. It adopts a modified Virtual Clock (VC) scheduling algorithm to multiplex files accurately and smoothly.
