Abstract:With the implementation of China Ⅲ emission standard or even more stringent legislations, engine emission control during the cold start becomes more important.A 3-cylinder port fuel injection(PFI) engine fueled with alcohol-gasoline blends was used to study the emission characteristics during this process.Meanwhile,a novel sampling system was designed to measure engine emissions during the cold start and warm-up processes.By comparing the emission characteristics of the alcohol-gasoline blends,it was found that the blends of methanol-gasoline had the better emission characteristic during the processes.Influence of methanol-gasoline blends on the emission characteristics of a SI engine during the cold start process was investigated at an ambient temperature of 5 ℃,15 ℃ and 25 ℃ respectively. The results show that unburned hydrocarbon(UHC) and carbon monoxide(CO) are decreased remarkably with the increase of methanol fraction at the same ambient temperature. At low ambient temperature, the reduction of HC and CO emissions become more obvious when fueled with methanol-gasoline blends. At 5 ℃,HC is reduced by 40% and CO is reduced by 70% when fueled with M30(30% methanol in volume) during the cold start and warm-up periods.
