Abstract:Objective To analyze the postoperative delay cure in the patients with hemifacial spasm after microvacular decompression of the different distinct offending vessels. Methods A total of 230 patients underwent microvacular decompression surgery for hemifacial spasm was successfully followed up for more than 2 years.Based on the distinct offending vessel, the patients were divided into two groups of A(164 cases, received small vascular compression) and B(66 cases, received vertebral-basal artery complex compression).Data of 69 cases with delay were analyzed. Results Of 230 cases,69 cases(32.7%) were delay cured. The delay cure rate was lower in group A than that in group B [26.2%(43/164) vs.39.4%(26/66)](P0.05).Of 69 cases with delay cure, the symptoms of 33 cases disappeared in one month after operation,13 cases in two months,12 cases in three months,7 cases in six months,3 cases in one year, and 1 case more than one year.Hemifacial spasm in 94.8% delay cured patients disappeared in six months after operation. Conclusion The postoperative delay cure in the patients with hemifacial spasm after MVD occures mostly in the cases whose hemifacial spasm is induced by vertebral-basal artery complex compression. The symptoms in majority of them disappeare within six months after MVD.
