Abstract:Electromagnetic environment effect of coronas of UHV transmission lines, including radio interference and audible noise, is a key issue in the design and operation of transmission lines. Those prediction formulas in literatures are not always suitable for the case of UHV conductors used in China and need to be verified by the practical UHV power engineering. Therefore, it is necessary to experimentally study the corona environment effect of ac UHV transmission lines. With the UHV test cage, corona effect of the bundle used in 1000 kV UHV AC test demonstration project of China is measured. The generated AN power density and RI excitation function of UHV bundle are obtained by the UHV cage test data. Through the experiments of UHV corona cage, audible noise generation quantity and radio interference excitation function of UHV bundles used in China are obtained. Corona performance tests on UHV AC test line and research on equivalence between short test line and actual long line are performed. A correction of -5.8 dB for 0.5 MHz radio interference is proposed. Compared with experimental results of UHV test line, the validity of UHV corona cage tests is verified. Effects on corona performance of bundles from weather condition, surface gradient of conductor, diameter of sub-conductor, split space and split number are studied in detail. Methods for predicting audible noise and radio interference generated from UHV lines are proposed, which are suitable for actual situation of China. Finally, the prediction formulae for corona effects presented in this paper are shown to be valid with the example of the first 1000 kV UHV AC test demonstration project in China. Prediction formulae for corona performance of different countries are analyzed.
