Abstract:High-dispersed surface anatase TiO2 modified CuOX-CeOX catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and their activities for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 were investigated. The structure of TiO2 was found to influence the interactions between active components and support, which enhanced the NO adsorption and oxidation on catalyst surface under optimal conditions, thus activated the fast SCR reaction at a low temperature of 100°C.

Abstract:Manganese and cerium oxides are extensively used for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in denitrification reaction due to their high redox ability and excellent low-temperature SCR activities. However, these catalysts still face problems such as easy aggregation of active components and low specific surface area, which restricts the enhancement of catalytic activity. Here, graphene based SiO2 nanocomposites (G@SiO2) with mesoporous structure was used as the template to prepare series of graphene based mesoporous manganese-cerium oxides (G@MnOx-CeO2) catalysts by hydrothermal method. The obtained catalysts were investigated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO at low temperature (100-300 degrees C). The results indicate that G@MnOx-CeO2 catalyst exhibits better SCR activity than graphene based cerium oxides (G@CeO2). With the mass ratio of Mn and Ce to G@SiO2 of 0.35 and 0.90, respectively, the G@Mn(0.35)Ce(0.9) catalyst shows the best NO removal activity with the maximum conversion of 80% at 220 degrees C. It is found that the addition of appropriate amount of MnOx increases specific surface area and pore volume but decreases crystallinity of the catalyst G@ MnOx-CeO2. Furthermore, MnOx and CeO2 are uniformly distributed on the surface of graphene sheets in the form of nanoparticles. In addition, partial replaced Ce atoms is actually doped with Mn atoms into the structure of CeO2 to form MnOx-CeO2 solid solution, resulting in higher percentage of Mn3+ and Mn4+ with higher valance states and Ce4+, and higher concentration of surface chemisorbed oxygen on the surface. These results contribute to higher SCR activity of the G@Mn(0.35)Ce(0.9) catalyst. This work provides promising basic data for the practical application of MnOx-CeO2 based catalysts in low temperature NH3-SCR.

Abstract:Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 as the reductant has been proven an efficient and cost-effective technology to remove NOx pollutants in industries. Traditional SCR catalysts usually operate above 300 °C and suffer from intoxication and limited lifetime. Nano-catalysts are attractive for their high catalytic activities at reduced operating temperatures. We have recently developed a series of nitrogen-doped graphene-supported Mn-Ce oxides (MnCeOx/NG). The influences of reaction temperature, space velocity, mole ratio of NH3/NO and O2 concentration on SCR de-nitration activity were assessed. The novel catalyst with optimal Mn/Ce ratio, at appropriate processing conditions, can achieve a NO conversion efficiency of 99.5% at a temperature of 180 °C, and 93.5% at 150 °C. The kinetics of the SCR reaction on this novel catalyst were also established, exhibiting first-order with respect to NO, zero-order to NH3, and nearly 0.5-order to O2 at low temperatures. In the presence of sufficient O2 content, the apparent activation energy of the NH3-SCR on MnCeOx/NG is 37.6 kJ/mol, which is promising for low-temperature applications.

Abstract:CeO2 nanoparticle-loaded MnO2 nanoflowers, prepared by a hydrothermal method followed by an adsorption-calcination technique, were utilized for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 at low temperatures. The effects of Ce/Mn ratio and thermal calcination temperature on the NH3-SCR activity of the CeO2-MnO2 nanocomposites were studied comprehensively. The as-prepared CeO2-MnO2 catalysts show high NOx reduction efficiency in the temperature range of 150-300 degrees C, with a complete NOx conversion at 200 degrees C for the optimal sample. The excellent NH3-SCR performance could be ascribed to high surface area, intimate contact, and strong synergistic interaction between CeO2 nanoparticles and MnO2 nanoflowers of the well-designed composite catalyst. The in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTs) characterizations evidence that the SCR reaction on the surface of the CeO2-MnO2 nanocomposites mainly follows the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism. Our work provides useful guidance for the development of composite oxide-based low temperature NH3-SCR catalysts.

Abstract:NH3 selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) has been a common method for eliminating nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the flue gas. The low-temperature denitrification has sparked widespread concern. Here, a CeO2/graphene aerogel (CeO2/GA) catalyst material was synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method using a three-dimensional (3-D) porous graphene aerogel structure as a carrier for NH3-SCR at low-temperature. The presence of nanoparticle CeO2 inhibited agglomeration between graphene sheets, while the graphene aerogel as a carrier produced a porous structure and improved nanoparticle dispersal. The specific surface area of composite catalyst material was 178.68 m2/g. Catalysts with efficient charge transfer and abundant chemisorbed oxygen promoted redox reactions, more acidic sites were essential to improving catalytic activity. At 270 °C, the NOx conversion (94.9%) of this catalyst was 2.9 times higher than that of pure CeO2 and it demonstrated good N2 selectivity and catalytic stability.

Abstract:The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x with ammonia is an effective method to remove NO x from stationary and mobile sources. Cerium oxides (CeO x ) have been studied extensively as low-temperature SCR catalysts since they manifest prominent oxygen storage capacity in catalysis. This paper reviews the recent progress on the Ce-based catalysts for low-temperature SCR de-NO x with NH3, including three categories, single CeO x , Ce-based multimetal oxide, and Ce-based multimetal oxides with support. In the section on single CeO x , the reasons for the significant catalytic activity and the function of CeO x in the catalytic reactions are systematically reviewed. For multimetal oxide catalysts, the various roles played by the components of catalysts are summarized from several aspects. In the introduction of supported metal oxide catalysts, according to the type of support, the function of each support in the reaction is analyzed methodically. Additionally, we investigated the reaction mechanism of low-temperature SCR of NO x , including Eley–Rideal (E–R) and Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) mechanisms. Finally, the development outlook and direction of the application of cerium oxide-based catalysts in the field of low-temperature SCR of NO x is prospected.

Abstract:A series of cerium modified MnOx/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by sol–gel method and used for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. The experimental results showed that NO conversion could be improved by doping Ce from 39% to 84% at 80°C with a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 40,000h−1. This activity improvement may be contributed to the increase of chemisorbed oxygen and acidity after Ce doping. TPR results also verified that the redox property of Ce modified MnOx/TiO2 was enhanced at low-temperature.

Abstract:Activated carbon honeycomb supported manganese and cerium oxides (MnOx-CeO2/ACH) catalysts were investigated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO at low temperatures of 80-200 degrees C. Compared with ACH supported manganese oxide catalyst (MnOx/ACH), MnOx-CeO2/ACH catalysts show much higher SCR activity and higher selectivity to N-2. NO conversion can be improved by the addition of CeO2 from less than 50% to 100% at 80-160 degrees C. The N-2 selectivity of higher than 99.8% is obtained over the Ce(1)Mn/ACH catalyst at 80-200 degrees C. Results indicate that the addition of CeO2 improves the distribution of MnOx and enhances the oxidation of NO to NO2, producing more absorbed NO3- on the catalyst surface, which is then reduced into N-2 by NH3. These behaviors account for the promoting effect of CeO2 on the SCR activity.

Abstract:BACKGROUND The emission of NOx can causes serious environmental pollution and endangers human health. In recent years, the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 (NH3-SCR) technology has been widely studied and adopted to reduce the production and emissions of NOx during many technologies. RESULTS A series of Mn-Ce-Co-x/Ti-C,N catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method, and low-temperature NH3-SCR was studied. The results show that support modification (Ti-C,N) can broaden the operation temperature window of the catalyst (NO conversion >95%: Mn-Ce/TiO2 catalyst, 160-320 degrees C; Mn-Ce/Ti-C,N catalyst, 140-320 degrees C). The doping of Co further improves the low-temperature NH3-SCR of the catalyst. When n(Co):n(Ti) = 0.05, the catalyst has the best catalytic performance with the NO conversion reaches 100% at 100 degrees C. CONCLUSION Temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) and temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) results showed that Ti-C,N can improve the redox ability but reduces the surface acidity. Co-doping has no effect on surface acidity, but the redox ability is further improved. A suitable amount of Co-doping is beneficial to the optimal catalytic activity of Mn-Ce-Co-0.05/Ti-C,N catalyst. This suggests a balance between redox properties and surface acidity. Especially for the strong redox ability, it can promote the oxidation of NO to NO2, and promote low-temperature NH3-SCR through the 'fast SCR' pathway. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results of the highest chemisorbed oxygen (O-alpha) concentration and relative atomic ratio (Mn4+/Mnn+, Ce3+/Cen+ and Co3+/Con+) confirmed the above conclusion. Abstract:Tricomponent cerium-tungsten-titanium catalysts have the potential for selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH3, while the accurate modulating of the surface structure and the understanding of the atomic-level mechanism remain extremely challenging. To resolve the conundrum, here, we investigate the modular ternary catalysts through advanced spectroscopic and computational studies. It reveals that the introduction of graphene oxide induces a high dispersion of W and Ce species, resulting in the generation of amorphous W-O-Ce. and Ce-O-Ti-bonding structures on the surface. More importantly, the high dispersion of CeO2 facilitates the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies, which are mobile active sites for adsorption and activation of NO and NH3. Temperature-programmed desorption of NO (NO-TPD) and temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 (NH3-TPD) validate the feasibility of adsorption of NO and NH3 at low temperatures. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy of the transient reaction indicates that both NO2 and monodentate nitrate are active intermediates, which can react with the adsorbed NH3 to generate N-2 and H2O during catalysis. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), in situ Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) provide direct evidence for the presence of Ce, W, and Ti interactions. Theoretical simulations prove that the inherent interactions reliably accelerate the conversion efficiency of NOx to N-2 by improving the electron transfer on the surface. Furthermore, the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism is thermodynamically more feasible and predominant over the graphene oxide-triggered catalyst.

Abstract:In response to the problem of air pollution caused by nitrogen oxides (NOx), we synthesized a three-dimensional (3D) MnOx-CeO2 nanoparticles/reduced graphene aerogel for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 by a facile one-step hydrothermal treatment. During the hydrothermal reaction, the graphene nanosheets and MnOx-CeO2 nanoparticles self-assembled into 3D interconnected networks, in which the nanoparticles MnOx-CeO2 with uniform size were densely anchored onto the graphene nanosheets. Besides, the MnOx-CeO2/reduced graphene oxide (RGA) exhibited unique properties such as high specific surface area, and numerous catalytically active sites in comparison with pure MnOx-CeO2 nanoparticles. Evidences have shown that the chemical bonding between MnOx-CeO2 and GO achieved high selective catalytic reduction efficiency. The MnOx-CeO2/RGA composites displayed highly enhanced catalytic activity in comparison to bare MnOx-CeO2 nanoparticles which achieved 99% NOx conversion at 220 degrees C. This work provided a versatile approach to induce the combination of reduced graphene oxide sheets and other oxide nanoparticles, which opened up new avenues for the design and manufacture of catalysts used for low temperature SCR of NOx with NH3.

Abstract:A Ce–Cu–Ti complex oxide catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 was prepared by coprecipitation method. XRD and H2–TPR reveal that the strong interaction between Ce and Cu results in the production of a new active oxygen species with high reducibility at low temperatures. Compared with Ce–Ti oxide catalyst, the Ce–Cu–Ti oxide catalyst produces better performance at the temperatures lower than 350°C and higher SO2-resistent ability. H2O will reduce the SCR activity of Ce–Cu–Ti catalyst at low temperatures while promoting the catalyst performance at temperatures more than 350°C.
Morphology and Crystal Plane Effects of Ceria Nanocrystals for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO with NH 3

Abstract:Nitrogen oxides (NO X ) are one of the major sources of air pollution and can cause serious environmental issues. Herein, a series of CeO 2 nanomaterials with different morphologies, such as nanorods, nanopolyhedrons, and spindles, have been designed and fabricated via a facile hydrothermal method as efficient catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO X with NH 3 . The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, and temperature-programmed desorption. The high percentage of the exposed (100) plane, together with the small crystalline size of the CeO 2 nanorods, led to more oxygen absorbed on their surface, which accelerated the adsorption and activation of NO and NH 3 , and lowered the apparent activation energy. Therefore, CeO 2 nanorods exhibited the highest catalytic activity across the whole temperature range (150–450°C) and obtained 94% NO conversion at 450°C with high N 2 selectivity.

Abstract:A novel Co-Ce-Ti composite oxide catalyst prepared by the hydrothermal method has been developed for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3. Co-Ce-Ti catalyst exhibited high NH3-SCR performance in a wide temperature window, which is superior to that of Co-Ti and Ce-Ti catalysts. Catalyst characterization results revealed that over Co-Ce-Ti catalyst the redox cycle (Co3+ + Ce3+<-> Co2+ + Ce4+) plays an important role for the high catalytic NH3-SCR performance. The synergetic effect between Co and Ce over Co-Ce-Ti catalyst resulted in both improved reducibility and increased acidity. In situ DRIFTS results clarified that over Co-Ce-Ti catalyst more reactive NH3/NH4+ species is formed, thus promoting the NH3-SCR of NOx to proceed. The present Co-Ce-Ti catalyst has great potential to be used for practical deNOx application.

Abstract:In this paper, Ce-O-P material (mainly consisted of CePO4) and TiO2 supported CeO2 catalysts were prepared by we impregnation route for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. The SCR activity results had revealed that CeO2/Ce-O-P-0.4 catalyst yielded over than 90% NO conversion within the temperature range of 200-300 degrees C, whereas the deNO(x) efficiency of CeO2/TiO2-0.4 catalyst was less than 30% at 200 degrees C. After a series of characterization tests, it was found that CeO2/Ce-O-P catalysts were of better dispersion of active phase than CeO2/TiO2 owing to the strong interactions between CeO2 and surficial Ce-O species on Ce-O-P material. Thus, more active oxygen species could participate in the SCR reaction at low temperature. Furthermore, compared to CeO2/TiO2 sample, the surface acidity was greatly enhanced for CeO2/Ce-O-P catalysts by the introduction of the acidic support, benefiting the adsorption of NH3. Both of which were attributed to the main reasons of the promoted SCR performance over CeO2/Ce-O-P catalysts. Moreover, the NOx ad-species on CeO2/TiO2 sample were very stable and could hardly react with adsorbed NH3, impeding L-H reaction pathway at low temperature.

Abstract:CeO2/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by three methods, and their activities for SCR of NO with NH3 were investigated in the presence of O2. The experimental results indicate that the catalysts prepared by the single step sol–gel method have the best SCR activity and SO2 resistance regardless of the concentration of NO or SO2. High surface area and good redox ability are important to the catalytic activity, while the strong interaction between ceria and titania as well as high concentration of amorphous or highly dispersed nano-crystalline ceria should be the reason for the excellent performance of the catalyst prepared by the single step sol–gel method.

Abstract:The nanocomposites of highly-dispersed MnOx and CeOx on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a uniform structure are obtained via a novel in situ deposition strategy through a pyridine-thermal method and used for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3 at low temperature. The influence of calcination temperature and the promotion effect of CeOx on the structural features of the MnOx-CeOx/CNTs are investigated. It is found that the appropriate calcination temperature could provide perfect crystallization and good dispersion of MnOx and CeOx components. The suitable CeOx loadings in the MnOx-CeOx/CNTs will lead to enhanced reducing ability, suggesting stronger interaction between CeOx, MnOx and CNTs. Compared with the MnOx-CeOx/CNTs prepared by an impregnation method, the MnOx-CeOx/CNTs obtained from the pyridine-thermal route presents better NH3-SCR activity within the working temperature range, excellent SO2 resistance as well as favourable stability. The MnOx-CeOx/CNT nanocomposites prepared by the pyridine-thermal route are good candidate catalysts for the NH3-SCR of NO.

Abstract:The catalysts with different rare earth oxides (La, Ce, Pr and Nd) loaded onto activated semi-coke (ASC) via hydrothermal method are prepared for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3 at low temperature (150-300 degrees C). It is evidenced that CeO2 loaded catalysts present the best performance, and the optimum loading amount of CeO2 is about 10 w%. Composite catalysts by doping La, Pr and Nd into CeO2 are prepared to obtain further improved catalytic properties. The SCR mechanism is investigated through various characterizations, including XRD, Raman, XPS and FT-IR, the results of which indicate that the oxygen defect plays an important role in SCR process and the doped rare earth elements effectively serve as promoters to increase the concentration of oxygen vacancies. It is also found that the oxygen vacancies in high concentration are favored for the adsorption of O-2 and further oxidation of NO, which facilitates a rapid progressing of the following reduction reactions. The SCR process of NO with NH3 at low temperature over the catalysts of ASC composite-supported rare earth oxides mainly follows the Langmuir-Hinshlwood mechanism. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:The MnOx and CeOx were in situ supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by a poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) assisted reflux route for the low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. X-Ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), H-2 temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) have been used to elucidate the structure and surface properties of the obtained catalysts. It was found that the in situ prepared catalyst exhibited the highest activity and the most extensive operating-temperature window, compared to the catalysts prepared by impregnation or mechanically mixed methods. The XRD and TEM results indicated that the manganese oxide and cerium oxide species had a good dispersion on the CNT surface. The XPS results demonstrated that the higher atomic concentration of Mn existed on the surface of CNTs and the more chemisorbed oxygen species exist. The H-2-TPR results suggested that there was a strong interaction between the manganese oxide and cerium oxide on the surface of CNTs. The NH3-TPD results demonstrated that the catalysts presented a larger acid amount and stronger acid strength. In addition, the obtained catalysts exhibited much higher SO2-tolerance and improved the water-resistance as compared to that prepared by impregnation or mechanically mixed methods.
