Abstract:In this paper we study the theta lifting for loop groups and extend the classical tower property established by S. Rallis to the loop setting. As an application we obtain cusp forms on loop groups, and we give the first example where the cusp forms constructed using this method are nonvanishing.

Abstract:In this paper we observe that isomorphism classes of certain metrized vector bundles over P^1-{0,infinity} can be parameterized by arithmetic quotients of loop groups. We construct an asymptotic version of theta functions, which are defined on these quotients. Then we prove the convergence and extend the theta functions to loop symplectic groups. We interpret them as sections of line bundles over an infinite dimensional torus, discuss the relations with loop Heisenberg groups, and give an asymptotic multiplication formula.

Abstract:We study the theta lifting for real unitary groups and completely determine the theta lifts of discrete series representations. In particular, we show that these theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the weakly fair range. This extends a result of J.-S. Li in the case of discrete series representations with sufficiently regular infinitesimal character, whose theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the good range.

Abstract:We relate poles of local Godement-Jacquet L-functions to distributions on matrix spaces with singular supports. As an application, we show the irreducibility of the full theta lifts to $GL_n(F)$ of generic irreducible representations of $GL_n(F)$, where $F$ is an arbitrary local field.

Abstract:We want to discuss various applications of modular forms in topology. The starting point is elliptic genus and its generalizations. The main techniques are the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, Kac-Moody Lie algebras, modular forms and theta-functions. Just as the representations theory of classical Lie groups has close connections with the Atiyah-Singer index formula as exposed in [A1], the representation theory of loop groups plays very important role in our study. One of the most important new features of loop group representations is the modular invariance of the Kac-Weyl character formula, which allows us to derive many interesting new results and to unify many important old results in topology. In this paper we will develope along this line. We hope that the other features of loop group representations, such as fusion rules and tensor category structure may also be applied to topology. See the discussions in §3. The contents of this paper is organized in the following way. In §1 we introduce elliptic genus by combining index theory and the representation theory of loop groups. The relation of the classical index theory with representation theory of classical Lie groups was discussed in [A1]. Here one finds that just replacing the classical Lie groups by their corresponding loop groups, we get the complete theory of elliptic genus, or more generally the index theory on loop space. Especially the Dirac operator and the Witten genus of loop space are derived more convincingly in this way. Then all of the other well-known properties of elliptic genus, such as functional equations, characterizations by rigidity and fibrations, can be easily obtained. Here we only pick some less well-known results to discuss, for example the expressions of the parameters in elliptic genera in terms of theta-functions. Different from the classical Lie group case, a new feature in our situation appears, the modular invariance which, by combining with index theory, is applied to obtain many new topological results. This is the content of §2. Most results in this section are special cases of more general results. For simplicity we only give the main ideas of the proofs. We make some geometric constructions in §3 to understand elliptic cohomology. The construction in §3.3 is motivated by the vertex operator algebra construction of the monstrous moonshine module. Abstract:Howe and Tan (1993) investigated a degenerate principal series representation of indefinite orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}(V)$ and explicitly described its composition series. They showed that there exists a unique unitarizable irreducible submodule $\Pi$, which is isomorphic to a cohomological representation. In this paper we construct orthogonal automorphic forms belonging to $\Pi$ as theta liftings of holomorphic $\mathrm{Mp}_2(\mathbb{R})$ cusp forms by using the Borcherds' method. We will give a useful observation in computing their Fourier expansions that enables us to give very precise descriptions of the liftings specially belonging to $\Pi$. We will also determine the cuspidal supports of the liftings, then confirm the square integrability of those automorphic forms on orthogonal groups.

Abstract:The Ribaucour transformations for flat Lagrangian submanifolds in C-n and CPn via loop group actions are given. As a consequence, the authors obtain a family of new flat Lagrangian submanifolds from a given one via a purely algebraic algorithm. At the same time, it is shown that such Ribaucour transformation always comes with a permutability formula.

Abstract:The main theme of this paper is that singular automorphic forms on classical groups are given by theta series liftings. We establish several inequalities relating the automorphic multiplicities of a given representation and that of its abstract theta lift. Our methods allow one to lift noncuspidal, square integrable automorphic forms when the dual pair involved is in the stable range. In this way we construct new families of singular automorphic forms, many of which are clearly unipotent. In fact, starting from one-dimensional representations and repeating the procedure (of lifting in the stable range), one may obtain all automorphic forms which are quadratic unipotent in the sense of Moeglin.

Concentration properties of theta lifts on orthogonal groups

Abstract:Let $n>m\geqslant 1$ be integers with $n+m\geqslant 4$ even. We prove the existence of Maass forms with large sup norms on anisotropic ${\rm O}(n,m)$, by combining a counting argument with a new period relation showing that a certain orthogonal period on ${\rm O}(n,m)$ distinguishes theta lifts from ${\rm Sp}_{2m}$. This generalizes a method of Rudnick and Sarnak in the rank one case, when $m = 1$. Our lower bound is naturally expressed as a ratio of the Plancherel measures for the groups ${\rm O}(n,m)$ and ${\rm Sp}_{2m}(\mathbb{R})$, up to logarithmic factors, and strengthens the lower bounds of our previous paper for such groups. In the case of odd-dimensional hyperbolic spaces, the growth exponent we obtain improves on a result of Donnelly, and is optimal under the purity conjecture of Sarnak.

Abstract:The classical theta correspondence, based on the Weil representation, allows one to lift automorphic representations on symplectic groups or their double covers to automorphic representations on special orthogonal groups. It is of interest to vary the orthogonal group and describe the behavior in this theta tower (the Rallis tower). In prior work, the authors obtained an extension of the classical theta correspondence to higher degree metaplectic covers of symplectic and special orthogonal groups that is based on the tensor product of the Weil representation with another small representation. In this work we study the existence of generic lifts in the resulting theta tower. In the classical case, there are two orthogonal groups that may support a generic lift of an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of a symplectic group. We show that in general the Whittaker range consists of r + 1 groups for the lift from the r-fold cover of a symplectic group. We also give a period criterion for the genericity of the lift at each step of the tower.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the tower property concerning the genericity of global theta lifts between quasi-split $O_{2n}$ and $Sp_{2m}$ inspired by Rallis's tower property. By examining the relationship between the poles of partial $L$-functions and special Bessel and Fourier-Jacobi periods, we prove that the first occurrence of theta lifts between quasi-split orthogonal groups and symplectic groups preserves genericity.

Abstract:We introduce and study a family of power series, which we call Theta series , whose coefficients are in the tensor square of a quantum loop algebra. They arise from a coproduct factorization of the T-series of Frenkel–Hernandez, which are leading terms of transfer matrices of certain infinite-dimensional irreducible modules over the upper Borel subalgebra in the category of Hernandez–Jimbo. We prove that each weight component of a Theta series is polynomial. As applications, we establish a decomposition formula and a polynomiality result for R-matrices between an irreducible module and a finite-dimensional irreducible module in category . We extend T-series and Theta series to Yangians by solving difference equations determined by the truncation series of Gerasimov–Kharchev–Lebedev–Oblezin. We prove polynomiality of Theta series by interpreting them as associators for triple tensor product modules over shifted Yangians.

Abstract:We give an explicit formula for the Petersson norms of theta lifts from Maass cusp forms of level one to cusp forms on orthogonal groups O(1,8n+1). Our formula explicitly determines archimedean local factors of the norms. As an application, we obtain the injectivity of the lifting of Maass forms and bounds on the sup-norm of cusp forms on these orthogonal groups in terms of their Laplace eigenvalues.

Abstract:The theta characteristics on a Riemann surface are permuted by the induced action of the automorphism group, with the orbit structure being important for the geometry of the curve and associated manifolds. We describe two new methods for advancing the understanding of these orbits, generalising existing results of Kallel & Sjerve, allowing us to establish the existence of infinitely many curves possessing a unique invariant characteristic as well as determine the number of invariant characteristics for all Hurwitz curves with simple automorphism group. In addition, we compute orbit decompositions for a substantial number of curves with genus $\leq 9$, allowing the identification of where current theoretical understanding falls short and the potential applications of machine learning techniques.
