Abstract:We introduce two K-theories, one for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of vertex operator algebras, another for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of associative algebras. We verify the cohomological properties of these K-theories, and construct a natural homomorphism from the VOA K-theory to the associative algebra K-theory.

Abstract:We want to discuss various applications of modular forms in topology. The starting point is elliptic genus and its generalizations. The main techniques are the Atiyah-Singer index theorem, the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, Kac-Moody Lie algebras, modular forms and theta-functions. Just as the representations theory of classical Lie groups has close connections with the Atiyah-Singer index formula as exposed in [A1], the representation theory of loop groups plays very important role in our study. One of the most important new features of loop group representations is the modular invariance of the Kac-Weyl character formula, which allows us to derive many interesting new results and to unify many important old results in topology. In this paper we will develope along this line. We hope that the other features of loop group representations, such as fusion rules and tensor category structure may also be applied to topology. See the discussions in §3. The contents of this paper is organized in the following way. In §1 we introduce elliptic genus by combining index theory and the representation theory of loop groups. The relation of the classical index theory with representation theory of classical Lie groups was discussed in [A1]. Here one finds that just replacing the classical Lie groups by their corresponding loop groups, we get the complete theory of elliptic genus, or more generally the index theory on loop space. Especially the Dirac operator and the Witten genus of loop space are derived more convincingly in this way. Then all of the other well-known properties of elliptic genus, such as functional equations, characterizations by rigidity and fibrations, can be easily obtained. Here we only pick some less well-known results to discuss, for example the expressions of the parameters in elliptic genera in terms of theta-functions. Different from the classical Lie group case, a new feature in our situation appears, the modular invariance which, by combining with index theory, is applied to obtain many new topological results. This is the content of §2. Most results in this section are special cases of more general results. For simplicity we only give the main ideas of the proofs. We make some geometric constructions in §3 to understand elliptic cohomology. The construction in §3.3 is motivated by the vertex operator algebra construction of the monstrous moonshine module. Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we construct mod 2 elliptic genera on manifolds of dimensions 8k+1, 8k+2 by mod 2 index formulas of Dirac operators. They are given by mod 2 modular forms or mod 2 automorphic functions. We also obtain an integral formula for the mod 2 index of the Dirac operator. As a by-product we find topological obstructions to group actions. In the second part, we construct higher elliptic genera and prove some of their rigidity properties under group actions. In the third part we write down characteristic series for all Witten genera by Jacobi theta-functions. The modular property and transformation formulas of elliptic genera then follow easily. We shall also prove that Krichever's genera, which come from integrable systems, can be written as indices of twisted Dirac operators forSU-manifolds. Some general discussions about elliptic genera are given.

Abstract:Elliptic genus was derived as the partition function in quantum field theory [26]. Mathematically it is the beautiful combination of topology of manifolds, index theory and modular forms (cf. [15], [10]). Elliptic genus for smooth manifolds has been well-studied. Recently, Borisov and Libgober ([3], [4]) proposed some definitions of elliptic genus for certain singular spaces, especially for complex orbifolds which is a global quotient M/G, here the finite group G acts holomorphically on complex variety M . Similar definitions have been introduced by string theorists in the 80s, in the study of orbifold string theory. One of their guiding principles is the modular invariance. More recently orbifold string theory has attracted the attention of geometers and topologists. For example Chen and Ruan (cf. [7], [22]) have defined orbifold cohomology and orbifold quantum cohomology groups. One of most important properties for elliptic genus is its rigidity property under compact Lie group action. For smooth manifolds, the rigidity and its generalizations have been well studied. Since orbifold elliptic genus is the partition function of orbifold string theory, it is natural to expect the rigidity property for orbifold elliptic genus. Although the global quotients from a very important class of orbifolds, many interesting orbifolds are not global quotients. For example, most of the Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces of weighted projective spaces are not global quotients. In this paper we define elliptic genus for general orbifolds which generalizes the definition of Borisov and Libgober, and prove their rigidity property. We actually introduce the more general elliptic genus involving twisted bundles and proved its rigidity. The idea of considering the weights in the definition of orbifold elliptic genus comes from [4] and our proof of the K-theory version of Witten rigidity theorems [21, §4]. The proof of the rigidity is again a combination of modular invariance and the index theory. Only more complicated combinatorics are involved in the definition and the proof. This paper is organized as follows: In Sections 1 and 2 we review the equivariant index theorem on orbifolds. We define orbifold elliptic genus and prove its rigidity for almost complex orbifolds in Section 3. Finally in Section 4 we introduce orbifold elliptic genus for spin orbifolds, and will study its rigidity property on a later occasion. Abstract:We match the elliptic genus of a Berglund-Hubsch Landau-Ginzburg orbifold with the supertrace of y(J[0]) q(L[0]) on a vertex algebra V-1,V-1. We show that it is a weak Jacobi form and the elliptic genus of one theory is equal (up to a sign) to the elliptic genus of its mirror.

Abstract:Assumed data streams from a delayed choice gedanken experiment must satisfy a Bell's identity independently of locality assumptions. The violation of Bell's inequality by assumed correlations of identical form among these data streams implies that they cannot all result from statistically equivalent variables of a homogeneous process. This is consistent with both the requirements of arithmetic and distinctions between commuting and noncommuting observables in quantum mechanics. Neglect of these distinctions implies a logical loophole in the conventional interpretation of Bell's inequalities.

Abstract:We give an abstract construction, based on the Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov equations, of a family of vertex operator algebras of rank $26$ associated to the modified regular representations of the Virasoro algebra. The vertex operators are obtained from the tensor products of intertwining operators for a pair of Virasoro algebras. We explicitly determine the structure coefficients that yield the axioms of VOAs. In the process of our construction, we obtain new hypergeometric identities.

Abstract:We explicitly construct K-theoretic and elliptic stable envelopes for certain moduli spaces of vortices, and apply this to enumerative geometry of rational curves in these varieties. In particular, we identify the quantum difference equations in equivariant variables with quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations, and give their monodromy in terms of geometric elliptic R-matrices. A novel geometric feature in these constructions is that the varieties under study are not holomorphic symplectic, yet nonetheless have representation-theoretic significance. In physics, they originate from 3d supersymmetric gauge theories with $\mathcal{N} = 2$ rather than $\mathcal{N} = 4$ supersymmetry. We discuss an application of the results to the ramified version of the quantum q-Langlands correspondence of Aganagic, Frenkel, and Okounkov.

Abstract:We propose new vertex operators, both the type I and the type II dual, of the elliptic quantum toroidal algebra U_{t_1,t_2,p}(gl_{1,tor}) by combining representations of U_{t_1,t_2,p}(gl_{1,tor}) and the notions of the elliptic stable envelopes for the instanton moduli space M(n,r). The vertex operators reproduce the shuffle product formula of the elliptic stable envelopes by their composition. We also show that the vacuum expectation value of a composition of the vertex operators gives a correct formula of the K-theoretic vertex function for M(n,r). We then derive exchange relations among the vertex operators and construct a L-operator satisfying the RLL=LLR^* relation with R and R^* being elliptic dynamical instanton R-matrices defined as transition matrices of the elliptic stable envelopes. Assuming a universal form of L, we define a comultiplication \Delta in terms of it. It turns out that the new vertex operators are intertwining operators of the U_{t_1,t_2,p}(gl_{1,tor})-modules w.r.t \Delta.

Elliptic surfaces and toroidal superalgebras

Abstract:The equivariant cohomology of certain moduli spaces of sheaves on isotrivial elliptic surfaces are shown to admit representations of infinite dimensional Lie (super)algebras. The construction is based on work of Billig and Chen-Li-Tan on vertex representations of toroidal extended affine Lie algebras, and a geometric interpretation of bc-ghost systems on Hilbert schemes of points on ruled surfaces. The role of higher-nullity toroidal extended affine lie algebras are discussed in relation to tensor products of modules of a Yangian-like associative algebra. Applications to enumerative geometry are discussed in the introduction.

Abstract:A theory of tensor products of modules for a vertex operator algebra is being developed by Lepowsky and the author. To use this theory, one first has to verify that the vertex operator algebra satisfies certain conditions. We show in the present paper that for any vertex operator algebra containing a vertex operator subalgebra isomorphic to a tensor product algebra of minimal Virasoro vertex operator algebras (vertex operator algebras associated to minimal models), the tensor product theory can be applied. In particular, intertwining operators for such a vertex operator algebra satisfy the (nonmeromorphic) commutativity (locality) and the (nonmeromorphic) associativity (operator product expansion). Combined with a result announced by Lepowsky and the author in 1994, the results of the present paper also show that the category of modules for such a vertex operator algebra has a natural structure of a braided tensor category. In particular, for any pairp,qof relatively prime positive integers larger than 1, the category of minimal modules of central charge 1−6[(p−q)2/pq] for the Virasoro algebra has a natural structure of a braided tensor category.

Abstract:Communications in Contemporary Mathematics, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we study nullity-[math] toroidal extended affine Lie algebras in the context of vertex algebras and their [math]-coordinated modules. Among the main results, we introduce a variant of toroidal extended affine Lie algebras, associate vertex algebras to the variant Lie algebras, and establish a canonical connection between modules for toroidal extended affine Lie algebras and [math]-coordinated modules for these vertex algebras. Furthermore, by employing some results of Billig, we obtain an explicit realization of a class of irreducible modules for the variant Lie algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebras related to twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra. We showed that there exist one-to-one correspondences between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study in detail the structures of the twisted HeisenbergVirasoro vertex operator algebra and give a characterization of it as a tensor product of two well-known vertex operator algebras.
Kazhdan-Lusztig Correspondence for Vertex Operator Superalgebras from Abelian Gauge Theories

Abstract:We prove the Kazhdan-Lusztig correspondence for a class of vertex operator superalgebras which, via the work of Costello-Gaiotto, arise as boundary VOAs of topological B twist of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ abelian gauge theories. This means that we show equivalences of braided tensor categories of modules of certain affine vertex superalgebras and corresponding quantum supergroups. We build on the work of Creutzig-Lentner-Rupert to this large class of VOAs and extend it since in our case the categories don't have projective objectives and objects can have arbitrary Jordan Hölder length. Our correspondence significantly improves the understanding of the braided tensor category of line defects associated to this class of TQFT, by realizing line defects as modules of a Hopf algebra. In the process, we prove a case of the conjecture of Semikhatov-Tipunin, relating logarithmic CFTs to Nichols algebras of screening operators.
