Abstract:We give an elementary introduction to Classical Invariant Theory and its modern extension "Transcending Classical Invariant Theory", commonly known as the theory of local theta correspondence. We explain the two fundamental assertions of the theory: the Howe duality conjecture and the Kudla-Rallis conservation relation conjecture. We give a status report on the problem of explicitly describing local theta correspondence in terms of Langlands-Vogan parameters. We conclude with a discussion on a certain problem of automatic continuity, which manifests unity of the theory in algebraic and smooth settings.

Abstract:We construct an intertwining map from the oscillator representation to the tensor product of two degenerate principal series of G and G′ which form a reductive dual pair in the sense of Howe. We derive results on local theta correspondence for the dual pairs (O(p, q), Sp(2q, R)), (U(p, q), U(q, q)) and (Sp(p, q), O*(4q)), where p⩾q. We also describe the correspondence completely for the pairs (O(p, q), SL(2, R)), (U(p, q)U(1, 1)), and (Sp(p, q), O*(4)).

Abstract:We study the Hecke algebra modules arising from theta correspondence between certain Harish-Chandra series for type I dual pairs over finite fields. For the product of the pair of Hecke algebras under consideration, we show that there is a generic Hecke algebra module whose specializations at prime powers give the Hecke algebra modules and whose specialization at 1 can be explicitly described. As an application, we prove the conservation relation on the first occurrence indices for all irreducible representations. As another application, we recover the results of Aubert-Michel-Rouquier and Pan on the explicit description of theta correspondence between Harish-Chandra series.

Abstract:S.-Y. Pan decomposes the uniform projection of the Weil representation of a finite symplectic-odd orthogonal dual pair, in terms of Deligne-Lusztig virtual characters, assuming that the order of the finite field is large enough. In this paper we use Pan's decomposition to study the theta correspondence for this kind of dual pairs, following the approach of Adams-Moy and Aubert-Michel-Rouquier. Our results give the theta correspondence between unipotent representations and certain quadratic unipotent representations.

Abstract:In this paper, we parametrize certain irreducible supercuspidal representations of U(1,1) and U(2) via explicit induction data. The parametrization depends on traceless elements of negative valuation in a quadratic extension of base field. We use the lattice model of the Weil representation to determine which traceless elements are involved in the theta correspondence for reductive dual pair U(1,1) and U(2).

Abstract:An “automatic continuity” question has naturally occurred since Roger Howe established the local theta correspondence over R \mathbb R : Does the algebraic version of local theta correspondence over R \mathbb R agree with the smooth version? Abstract:In this paper we study the theta lifting for loop groups and extend the classical tower property established by S. Rallis to the loop setting. As an application we obtain cusp forms on loop groups, and we give the first example where the cusp forms constructed using this method are nonvanishing.

Abstract:Howe and Tan (1993) investigated a degenerate principal series representation of indefinite orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}(V)$ and explicitly described its composition series. They showed that there exists a unique unitarizable irreducible submodule $\Pi$, which is isomorphic to a cohomological representation. In this paper we construct orthogonal automorphic forms belonging to $\Pi$ as theta liftings of holomorphic $\mathrm{Mp}_2(\mathbb{R})$ cusp forms by using the Borcherds' method. We will give a useful observation in computing their Fourier expansions that enables us to give very precise descriptions of the liftings specially belonging to $\Pi$. We will also determine the cuspidal supports of the liftings, then confirm the square integrability of those automorphic forms on orthogonal groups.

Abstract:In this paper we observe that isomorphism classes of certain metrized vector bundles over P^1-{0,infinity} can be parameterized by arithmetic quotients of loop groups. We construct an asymptotic version of theta functions, which are defined on these quotients. Then we prove the convergence and extend the theta functions to loop symplectic groups. We interpret them as sections of line bundles over an infinite dimensional torus, discuss the relations with loop Heisenberg groups, and give an asymptotic multiplication formula.

Abstract:Let (C, C'S) be a type I irreducible reductive dual pair in Sp(W-R). We assume that (C, C') is in the stable range where G is the smaller member. Let K and K' be maximal compact subgroups of G and G' respectively. Let g = t circle plus p and g' = t' circle plus p' be the complexified Cartan decompositions of the Lie algebras of G and G' respectively. Let (K) over tilde and (K') over tilde be the inverse images of K and K' in the metaplectic double cover Sp(W-R) of Sp(W-R). Let rho be a genuine irreducible (g, (K) over tilde)-module. Our first main result is that if rho is unitarizable, then except for one special case, the full local theta lift rho' = Theta(rho) is equal to the local theta lift theta(rho). Thus excluding the special case, the full theta lift rho' is an irreducible and unitarizable (g', (K') over tilde)-module. Our second main result is that the associated variety and the associated cycle of p' are the theta lifts of the associated variety and the associated cycle of the contragredient representation p* respectively. Finally we obtain some interesting (9, (K) over tilde)-modules whose (K) over tilde -spectrums are isomorphic to the spaces of global sections of some vector bundles on some nilpotent K-C-orbits in p*.

Abstract: In this paper we first construct natural filtrations on the full theta lifts for any real reductive dual pairs. We will use these filtrations to calculate the associated cycles and therefore the associated varieties of Harish-Chandra modules of the indefinite orthogonal groups which are theta lifts of unitary lowest weight modules of the metaplectic double covers of the real symplectic groups. We will show that some of these representations are special unipotent and satisfy a K-type formula in a conjecture of Vogan.

Abstract:Using theta correspondence, we obtain a classification of irreducible representations of an arbitrary even orthogonal group (i.e. the local Langlands correspondence) by deducing it from the local Langlands correspondence for symplectic groups due to Arthur. Moreover,we show that our classifications coincide with the local Langlands correspondence established by Arthur and formulated precisely by Atobe-Gan for quasi-split even orthogonal groups.
