Abstract:Silver phosphate (Ag3PO4, APO) has attracted intense attention as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst, but its large-scale application is limited by severe charge recombination and inevitable photo-corrosion. Various rational APO-based heterostructures composed of APO nanoparticles (NPs) and band-matched semiconductor support are designed to address the above issues. Nevertheless, the size, density, stability, and dispersion of APO NPs are critical challenges for the photocatalytic performance of APO-based photocatalysts. Here, three-dimensional (3D) self-assembled TiO2 hierarchical spheres (THS) prepared by a simple one-step hydrothermal method are employed as innovative support, and ultrafine high-density APO NPs with an average size of about 3 nm are successfully deposited and uniformly dispersed throughout THS to form hierarchical THS/APO composites. The novel THS/APO microstructure provides abundant reactive sites for photocatalytic reactions and promotes the photogenerated charge separation and transfer due to the ultrafine size of APO NPs and the TiO2/APO Type-II heterojunction. As a result, the THS/APO composites show significant improvement in photocatalytic activity and stability in methylene blue (MB) degradation. The reaction constant of THS/APO composites far exceeds that of either THS or APO, roughly 16 and 7 times higher than that of THS and APO under full-spectrum light, and 41 and 4 times higher under visible light. Our results strongly suggest new insights into the low-cost, large-scale application of high-efficiency APO-based photocatalyst.
Facile synthesis of hierarchical Ag 3 PO 4 /TiO 2 nanofiber heterostructures with highly enhanced visible light photocatalytic properties

Abstract:Heterostructured semiconductor nanostructures have provoked great interest in the areas of energy, environment and catalysis. Herein, we report a novel hierarchical Ag3PO4/TiO2 heterostructure consisting of nearly spherical Ag3PO4 particles firmly coupled on the surface of TiO2 nanofibers (NFs). The construction of Ag3PO4/TiO2 heterostructure with tailored morphologies, compositions and optical properties was simply achieved via a facile and green synthetic strategy involving the electrospinning and solution-based processes. Owing to the synergetic effects of the components, the resulting hybrid heterostructures exhibited much improved visible light photocatalytic performance, which could degrade the RhB dye completely in 7.5 min. In addition, the coupling of Ag3PO4 particles with UV-light-sensitive TiO2 NFs enabled full utilization of solar energy and less consumption of noble metals, significantly appealing for their practical use in new energy sources and environmental issues. Abstract:In this study, a narrow band gap semiconductor ZnFe2O4 is prepared first and then a wide band gap semiconductor ZnO is used to modify it by using hydrothermal method under the participation of the chelating agent nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), which will be removed in the process of high temperature baking. The structure and composition of ZnFe2O4/ZnO heterojunction were characterized by using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS). In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of ZnFe2O4/ZnO heterojunction under visible light irradiation Ag nanoparticles were loaded on its surface by using a very simple and special method namely silver mirror reaction at room temperature without agitation. The methyl orange (MO) was taken as model dyes to illustrate the photocatalytic performance of synthesized products on visible light irradiation. Maximum degradation of 84% for MO was achieved when one 85 W ordinary household energy-saving lamp was used as light source and ZnFe2O4/ZnO/Ag as multicomponent photocatalyst.

Abstract:Constructing heterojunctions to address effective charge separation and transformation is one of the crucial paths to increasing photocatalytic properties. Here, a novel ternary heterojunction photocatalyst Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 was synthesized by conventional hydrothermal and chemical precipitation tactics and analyzed with PXRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS respectively. The consequences of the analysis demonstrated that nanoparticles Ag/Ag3PO4 were attached to the surface of the Bi2O2CO3 self-assembled formative nanoflowers. Precursors such as prepared Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 demonstrated high-efficiency photocatalytic performance and were more reusable than the precursor Ag/Ag3PO4 and Bi2O2CO3 by visible-light-induced methylene blue (MB) photodegradation. The raised photocatalytic property may contribute to the synergistic influence between forming Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 heterojunction and local surface plasma-resonance effect caused by the Ag precious metal promoting photogenerated charge carries separation efficiency, hindering the electron-hole pair recombination. Moreover, quenching experiments and ESR tests showed that hydroxyl and superoxide radicals played an important role in photodegradation. Finally, a potential photocatalytic mechanism of the Ag/Ag3PO4/Bi2O2CO3 for the electron/hole transfer procedure was proposed.

Abstract:Constructing suitable heterojunction with interface engineering has been an effective way to boost charge separation of semiconductors, thus providing improved photocatalytic ability. In this work, a novel bimetallic framework (ZnCd-MOF) was prepared to construct heterojunction with Ag 3 PO 4 . The ZnCd-MOF nanosheets were dispersed around Ag 3 PO 4 particles with a close interface; as a result, the interface photo-charge separation was enhanced, and more photogenerated holes can be concentrated on the Ag 3 PO 4 for realizing a higher photocatalytic activity. The obtained ZnCd-MOF/Ag 3 PO 4 composites exhibited higher photocatalytic oxygen production activity than that of pure Ag 3 PO 4 . Furthermore, when the content of ZnCd-MOF in the composite increased from 1 to 10 wt%, the oxygen production increased from 1399 to 2458 μmol g −1 under simulated sunlight irradiation. This work provides a new way to design high-efficiency Ag 3 PO 4 -based heterojunction photocatalyst via taking full advantage of the interface engineering in the composite together with providing abundant active sites for photocatalytic oxygen production.

Abstract:Samples of flower-like MoS2 nanosphere-modified Ag3PO4 (Ag3PO4/MoS2) were prepared by a facile and reliable method. The morphology and crystal structure of the Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites were investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, specific surface areas, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Analysis results indicated that Ag3PO4 particles were distributed conformably on the surface of flower-like MoS2 spheres, and both formed an enhanced heterojunction structure. Fluorescence spectra, surface photocurrent spectra, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic results showed that an appropriate amount of MoS2 modification (6 mg) could effectively improve the generation, separation, and migration efficiency of the photogenerated electron/hole pairs (e−/h+). The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by photocatalytic O2 production and photodegradation of the organic molecules under visible-light irradiation. With the increase in the amount of MoS2, the photocatalytic activity of the Ag3PO4/MoS2 samples increased first and then decreased. The photocatalytic rate reached the fastest when the mass of MoS2 was 6 mg, which was 7.66- and 9.28-fold of that of pure Ag3PO4 for photocatalytic O2 production and photodegradation of organic molecules, respectively. Sacrificial reagent experiments and electron spin resonance spectra showed that superoxide radicals (•O2 −) and holes (h+) played a major role in the photocatalytic reaction process. The enhanced photocatalytic performance could be ascribed to the interfacial optimization and formation of Z-scheme heterojunction.

Abstract:AgI/Ag3PO4 hybrids were synthesized via an ion-exchange method. The structures and morphologies of the samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoluminescence (PL). The results showed that AgI nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the surface of Ag3PO4 and the heterostructure was formed. DRS of the AgI/Ag3PO4 composites exhibited strong absorbance in Ultraviolet (UV) and visible regions. PL analysis indicated a more efficient separation of electron–hole pairs in the AgI/Ag3PO4 nanocomposites. Under visible light (λ >400nm), the photocatalytic activity of the AgI/Ag3PO4 composites for photodegradation of rhodamine B were efficient and much higher than that of the pure Ag3PO4 crystals. The enhancing photocatalytic activity of AgI/Ag3PO4 was attributed to the efficient separation of electron–hole pairs derived from the matching band potentials between AgI and Ag3PO4. A photocatalytic mechanism and the photocatalytic reaction kinetics over AgI/Ag3PO4 hybrid materials were also proposed.

Abstract:A ZnO seed layer was formed on the fluorine-doped tin oxide substrate by magnetron sputtering, and then a ZnO nanorod was grown on the ZnO seed layer by a hydrothermal method. Next, we prepared a single-crystal Ag seed layer by magnetron sputtering to form a ZnO@Ag composite heterostructure. Finally, Ag3PO4 crystals were grown on the Ag seed layer by a stepwise deposition method to obtain a ZnO@Ag@Ag3PO4 ternary heterojunction. The composite heterostructure of the material has super strong hydrophilicity and can be combined with water-soluble pollutants very well. Besides, it has excellent anti-reflection performance, which can absorb light from all angles. When Ag exists in the heterojunction, it can effectively improve the separation of photo-generated electrons and holes, and improve the photoelectric conversion performance. Based on the above characteristics, this nano-heterostructure can be used in the fields of solar cells, sensors, light-emitting devices, and photocatalysis.

Abstract:Novel 3D hierarchical Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites were successfully prepared through a facile and reproducible hydrothermal-in situ precipitation method. The 3D flower-like spherical MoS2 nanoarchitectures acted as an excellent supporting matrix for the in situ growth of Ag3PO4 nanoparticles. The photocatalytic performance of the composites and the effect of the amount of MoS2 were investigated. The obtained hierarchical Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites exhibited significantly enhanced performance for photocatalytic oxidation of Rhodamine B (RhB) compared with pure Ag3PO4 under visible light irradiation. Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites with 15 wt% of MoS2 showed the optimal photoactivity for the degradation of RhB, which was approximately 4.8 times as high as that of pure Ag3PO4. What's more, the optimal Ag3PO4/MoS2 composite also showed better photodegradation efficiency for methyl orange (MO) and p-chlorophenol (4-CP) than pure Ag3PO4. More attractively, the stability of Ag3PO4 was improved after the in situ deposition of Ag3PO4 particles on the surface of MoS2 nanoflakes due to the conductivity of MoS2 itself as electron acceptors. The enhanced performance of the hierarchical Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites under visible light was caused by a synergistic effect including the improved separation of photogenerated charge carriers, boosted light harvesting, a relatively high surface area and matching energy band structures between the two components. Interestingly, the heterostructured Ag3PO4/MoS2 composite reduced the use of the noble metal silver, thereby effectively reducing the cost of the Ag3PO4 based photocatalyst. Ultimately, a MoS2 involved photocatalytic mechanism for the hierarchical Ag3PO4/MoS2 composites was also proposed.

Abstract:The utilization of solar-driven photocatalysis presents a highly promising approach to tackle the urgent challenges posed by environmental pollution and energy scarcity. Compared to some conventional photocatalysts, silver phosphate (Ag3PO4)-based hybrid photocatalysts have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional attributes, including a high oxidation capacity, superior quantum conversion efficiency, and wide optical bandgap. Till now, Ag3PO4-based photocatalysts have been energetically for the efficient degradation of various pollutants and biomedical materials, encompassing phenol and its derivatives, humic acids, organic dyes, pharmaceuticals, among others. Herein, we present a concise overview of the fundamentals and current development of nano-micro Ag3PO4-based photocatalysts, including preparation methods (precipitation method, hydrothermal method, crystallographic plane modulation, microwave radiation and colloidal method), construction of heterojunction structures, and their applications in decomposition of organic pollutants, antibiotics, pesticides/insecticides, antimicrobial agents, as well as catalytic gas reforming, hydrogen/oxygen production, and some other environmental and biomedical purposes. The current challenges in photocorrosion behavior of Ag3PO4 are discussed in depth. Furthermore, we also provide potential solutions of enhancing the separation of photogenerated charges and electrons by constructing specialized structures, such as Z-scheme heterojunction, built-in electric field, Type-II, S-scheme and plasma heterojunctions. This review offers a comprehensive overview of recent advancements and challenges in the development of nano-micro Ag3PO4 photocatalysts, which will have a great impact on the fields of energy, environment and health care.

Preparation of Ag3PO4 tetrapods anchored to nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots for enhanced photocatalytic performance

Abstract:A feasible modification strategy is proposed to enhance interfacial charge transfer in semiconductor microcrystals exposed to high-reactive facets for photocatalytic application. The Ag3PO4 tetrapods exposed with highly reactive {110} facets were synthesized, and then nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) were anchored on the surface of the Ag3PO4 tetrapods, constructing the nano-sized S-scheme NCQDs/Ag3PO4 heterojunction to further promote the interfacial charge transfer. Such S-scheme charge transfer behavior not only increased the efficient spatial separation of photo-generated carriers but also retained the strong-reductive electrons in the conduction band of NCQDs, which could fully harness O-2(-) to photo-catalytically degrade pollutants. Furthermore, the modification of NCQDs improved the light-harvesting ability of the composite due to the up-conversion fluorescence characteristic of NCQDs. Therefore, NCQDs/Ag3PO4 composite photocatalyst displayed outstanding photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methylene blue, which was about 3.4 times higher than that of pure Ag3PO4, and also exhibited higher stability.
Construction of Ag-modified ZnO/g-C3N4 heterostructure for enhanced photocatalysis performance

Abstract:ZnO/g-C3N4 heterojunction modified with Ag nanoparticles (ZnO/CN/Ag) was synthesized by depositing ZnO nanorods/Ag nanoparticles onto g-C3N4 nanosheets. Under xenon lamp irradiation, 99% of Rhodamine B (RhB) was degraded by ZnO/CN/Ag-5% composite within 30 min, which was much higher than the degradation efficiency of ZnO and ZnO/CN. The synergistic effect of g-C3N4 and ZnO, along with the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag NPs, contributes to the improvement of photocatalytic performance. Ag nanoparticle provides another charge transfer path from g-C3N4 to ZnO, which speeds up the separation of electron-hole pairs. Meanwhile, the catalyst had good stability and recyclability. Finite-difference time-domain method and the density functional theory were used to obtain the charge transfer process. The photodegradation process has been studied in depth.
Optimization of AgIO3/Bi4Ti3O12 composite photocatalyst to achieve enhanced photocatalytic performance by adjusting internal electric field via oxygen defect engineering

Abstract:The construction of heterojunction is an effective and conventional method to improve the photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts. On this basis, how to further regulate the separation and migration of photogenerated carrier is worthy of further investigation. As a mature and efficient modification method, oxygen defect engineering was used to regulate the S-scheme heterojunction composed of AgIO3 and Bi4Ti3O12 to further enhance the photocatalytic activity of the constructed heterojunction in this study. In addition to improving the visible light absorption of the photocatalyst and providing active sites, the introduction of oxygen vacancies can also strengthen the internal electric field between the two semiconductors by expanding the Fermi level gap, which can be verified by Mott-Schottky experiment and DFT calculations, resulting in more efficient photogenerated carrier separation efficiency. As a result, compared with AgIO3/Bi4Ti3O12, the AgIO3/Bi4Ti3O12 heterojunction modulated by oxygen defect engineering exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity, which proves the feasibility of the regulation of the interfacial electric field. This work provides a new idea for the modulation strategy of the interface electric field.
Fabrication of direct Z-scheme Ag2O/Bi2MoO6 heterostructured microsphere with enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity

Abstract:Rational design of Z-scheme heterojunction is known to be a good strategy for promoting photogenerated charge efficient separation. In this paper, a direct Z-scheme Ag2O/Bi2MoO6 heterostructured microspheres with good interfacial properties were successfully prepared by hydrothermal synthesis-coprecipitation-calcination decomposition. Various techniques such as Transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) were used to reveal the structure, morphology, composition, electrochemical and optical properties of the target product. The catalytic activity of the as-prepared composite was evaluated by visible light degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) and transient photocurrent. As expected, the results showed that 1:5 Ag2O/Bi2MoO6 exhibited the optimal catalytic performance. And the visible degradation efficiency is up to 86% in 90 min, which was 2.69 times higher than that of Bi2MoO6 (32%). And 1:5 Ag2O/Bi2MoO6 exhibited the highest photocurrent efficiency (0.8 μA/cm2). Meanwhile, the efficiency of 1:5Ag2O/Bi2MoO6 keep 90% after four cycles. The enhanced activity can be attributed to the formation of a good interfacial contact between Ag2O and Bi2MoO6. In addition, hole and superoxide were identified as the main active species. Eventually a possible direct Z-scheme mechanism was proposed to explain enhanced performance. This work may provide a new perspective for the rational design of excellent Bi2MoO6-based Z-scheme heterojunctions for environmental remediation.

Abstract:To boost the visible light catalytic performance of typical metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) materials (MIL-68(In)-NH 2 ), a novel stable Z-scheme Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /MIL-68(In)-NH 2 plasmonic photocatalyst was constructed by electrostatic attraction, co-precipitation reaction, and in-situ photoreduction reaction methods for the first time. The photocatalytic activities of the photocatalysts are systematically explored by the photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) and reduction of Cr(VI) under visible light. Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /MIL-68(In)-NH 2 displays the best photocatalytic performance among the as-prepared photocatalysts. The rate constant of BPA degradation on Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /MIL-68(In)-NH 2 is 0.09655 min -1 , which is better than many reported photocatalytic materials. It also achieved a maximum rate constant of 0.02074 min -1 for Cr(VI) reduction. The boosted photocatalytic performance is due to the improved absorption caused by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), effective interface charge transfer and separation, and more reactive sites provided by the large specific surface area. Besides, the photocatalytic degradation pathway of BPA is concluded according to GC-MS analysis. Finally, a more reasonable Z -scheme mechanism is speculated and verified through a series of characterizations and simulations, such as timeresolved photoluminescence spectroscopy (TRPL), electron spin resonance (ESR), and finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Preparation of a Novel Ag3PO4/Bi-MOF Heterojunction Photocatalyst for the Degradation of Organic Pollutants Under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:In this study, a novel photocatalyst composed of silver phosphate (Ag 3 PO 4 ) and bismuth-based organic framework (Bi-MOF) were synthesized via chemical precipitation at room temperature, and the photocatalytic degradation of pollutants under visible light irradiation was conducted to evaluate their photocatalytic performance. The composite materials exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to pure Bi-MOF and Ag 3 PO 4 , with APBM-1/1 performing the most effectively. The degradation efficiencies of rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) were 99% and 86.9% within 50 min and 30 min of light exposure, respectively. The construction of a unique p-n heterojunction interface between Ag 3 PO 4 and Bi-MOF significantly enhanced the efficiency of interfacial charge separation, leading to exceptional photocatalytic activity. Capture experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) were conducted, revealing that photogenerated holes (h + ) and superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ) were the primary active species involved in the degradation reaction. Based on these findings, a plausible mechanism for the photocatalytic process was proposed.

Abstract:MoS2/Ag3PO4 heterojunction photocatalysts have attracted great attention in dye degradation and water oxidation, in which Z-scheme plays a critical role in the catalytic performance as a result of energy band structure alignment between MoS2 and Ag3PO4. Creating metal sites at composite interfaces as recombination centers of photo-generated electrons from conduction band (CB) of Ag3PO4 and holes from valence band (VB) of MoS2 is an effective strategy to enhance the charge separation efficiency and photocatalytic performance. Strong coupled MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 ternary heterojunction photocatalysts were fabricated by one-pot precipitation method, in which highly dispersed Ag dots are located at the MoS2/Ag3PO4 interfaces and MoS2 is bonded with PO(4)(3-)in the form of Mo-O-P. The fabricated MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 photocatalyst presents a 2.8-fold enhancement of photocatalytic activity of water oxidation compared to that of pristine Ag3PO4, which is achieved for the first time. The great enhancement of photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the improved Z scheme mechanism with strongly coupled MoS2/Ag dots/Ag3PO4 ternary interfaces, in which highly dispersed Ag dots serve as efficient recombination centers resulting in the improved separation of photo-generated holes and electrons of Ag3PO4 as well as photocatalytic activity of oxygen evolution. Abstract:Heterojunction formation and morphology control have always been regarded as effective ways to improve the performance of visible-light-driven photocatalysts. In this study, a new facile strategy was applied to synthesize the Z-scheme GO/AgI/Bi2O3 heterojunction, where polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and γ-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy silane (KH-570) were used to modulate the morphologies. Methyl orange and tetracycline hydrochloride were chosen as target contaminants to evaluate the photocatalytic properties of samples and the results revealed that 2% GO/AgI/Bi2O3 exhibited the best photocatalytic performance under visible-light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity can mainly attribute to Z-scheme heterojunction formed by the deposing of AgI and GO as well as the sufficient heterogeneous interfaces resulted from the improved morphology, which have effectively promoted the separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs. To deeply realize the enhanced performance of GO/AgI/Bi2O3 photocatalysts, the reaction kinetics, trapping experiments and photocatalytic mechanism were deduced.

Abstract:Photocatalysis is still a promising technology to alleviate the antibiotic residual problem of wastewater in the ecological environment. Herein, an all-solid-state Z-scheme Ag@Ag3PO4/TiO2-(F2) (TFAP) heterojunction photocatalyst was constructed using the hydrothermal method for the first time. The photocatalytic performance of TFAP nanocomposites for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) degradation was evaluated under simulated sunlight. The prepared materials were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, BET, FT-IR, UVvis DRS, XPS, PL, and ESR measurements. The TFAP nanocomposites showed high degradation efficiency and excellent repeatability to TCH destruction. Among them, the (TFAP 1–1) nanocomposite has a lower bandgap energy (1.80 eV), a larger specific surface area (53.48 m2/g), and a lower electron-hole recombination rate. After 2.5 h of simulated sunlight irradiation, the degradation rate of the 200 mg/L (TFAP 1–1) nanocomposite (k = 0.0154 min−1) to 10 mg/L TCH reached 94.14%, which was much higher than that of the pure TiO2, TiOF2, and Ag3PO4 samples. The experimental results demonstrated that TiO2 was generated as an intermediate product during the chemical reaction process between Ag3PO4 and TiOF2. Additionally, Ag nanoparticles were formed in the Ag3PO4/TiO2/TiOF2 heterojunction system. An electric field was formed between Ag3PO4 and Ag, enhancing the visible light absorption ability. Because of the Schottky potential difference, the electrons accumulate in Ag nanoparticles, thus enhancing the photocorrosion resistance of Ag3PO4. Additionally, the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles greatly promoted the separation of carriers at the interface of the heterojunction. The LSPR effect leads to the co-oscillation of free electrons, which leads to the strong absorption of electromagnetic energy and enhances the photocatalytic performance of the heterojunction. The Ag@Ag3PO4 nanocomposites acted as electron transport media for an all-solid-state Z-scheme TFAP heterojunction system. This study provides some in-depth insights into the structural design of Z-scheme heterojunctions, which have certain implications for other catalytic systems.
