Abstract:Takens Theorem for a partially hyperbolic dynamics provides a normal linearization along the center manifold. In this paper, we give the nonautonomous version of Takens Theorem under non-resonance conditions formulated in terms of the dichotomy spectrum. In our proof, one difficulty is to solve homological equations for the normal form theory which involve a center variable, while another difficulty is to find the dichotomy spectrum of a certain matrix cocycle that is block lower triangular. In order to overcome those difficulties, in comparison with the autonomous case, we need an additional term in the (nonautonomous) non-resonance conditions to guarantee certain spectral gap conditions. This additional term disappears naturally in the autonomous case.

Abstract:This paper deals with random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms (complex generalized Hénon maps and their conjugate maps) of $\Bbb{C}^{2}.$ We show that a generic random dynamical system of polynomial automorphisms has ``mean stablity'' on $\Bbb{C}^{2}$. Further, we show that if a system has mean stability, then (1) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma =(\gamma _{n})_{n=1}^{\infty }$ of maps, the Lyapunov exponents of $\gamma $ at $z$ are negative, (2) there are only finitely many minimal sets of the system, (3) each minimal set is attracting, and (4) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma $ of maps, the orbit $\{ \gamma _{n}\cdots \gamma _{1}(z) \} _{n=1}^{\infty }$ tends to one of the minimal sets of the system. Note that (1)--(4) cannot hold for any deterministic iteration dynamical system of a single complex generalized Hénon map. We observe many new phenomena in random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms of $\Bbb{C}^{2}$ and observe the mechanisms. We provide new strategies and methods to study higher-dimensional random holomorphic dynamical systems.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider random dynamical systems formed by concatenating maps acting on the unit interval in an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) fashion. Considered as a stationary Markov process, the random dynamical system possesses a unique stationary measure . We consider a class of non-square-integrable observables , mostly of form , where is a non-recurrent point (in particular a non-periodic point) satisfying some other genericity conditions and, more generally, regularly varying observables with index . The two types of maps we concatenate are a class of piecewise expanding maps and a class of intermittent maps possessing an indifferent fixed point at the origin. Under conditions on the dynamics and , we establish Poisson limit laws, convergence of scaled Birkhoff sums to a stable limit law, and functional stable limit laws in both the annealed and quenched case. The scaling constants for the limit laws for almost every quenched realization are the same as those of the annealed case and determined by . This is in contrast to the scalings in quenched central limit theorems where the centering constants depend in a critical way upon the realization and are not the same for almost every realization.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a quantitative estimate for the first N Lyapunov exponents for random perturbations of a natural class of 2N-dimensional volume-preserving systems exhibiting strong hyperbolicity on a large but noninvariant subset of the phase space. Abstract:We extend the recently developed discrete geometric singular perturbation theory to the non-normally hyperbolic regime. Our primary tool is the Takens embedding theorem, which provides a means of approximating the dynamics of particular maps with the time-1 map of a formal vector field. First, we show that the so-called reduced map, which governs the slow dynamics near slow manifolds in the normally hyperbolic regime, can be locally approximated by the time-1 map of the reduced vector field which appears in continuous-time geometric singular perturbation theory. In the non-normally hyperbolic regime, we show that the dynamics of fast-slow maps with a unipotent linear part can be locally approximated by the time-1 map induced by a fast-slow vector field in the same dimension, which has a nilpotent singularity of the corresponding type. The latter result is used to describe (i) the local dynamics of two-dimensional fast-slow maps with non-normally singularities of regular fold, transcritical and pitchfork type, and (ii) dynamics on a (potentially high-dimensional) local center manifold in n-dimensional fast-slow maps with regular contact or fold submanifolds of the critical manifold. In general, our results show that the dynamics near a large and important class of singularities in fast-slow maps can be described via the use of formal embedding theorems which allow for their approximation by the time-1 map of a fast-slow vector field featuring a loss of normal hyperbolicity.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the transverse stability of random dynamical systems (RDS). Suppose a RDS on a Riemann manifold possesses a non-random invariant submanifold, what conditions can guarantee that a random attractor of the RDS restrained on the invariant submanifold is a random attractor with respect to the whole manifold? By the linearization technique, we prove that if all the normal Lyapunov exponents with respect to the tangent space of the submanifold are negative, then the attractor on the submanifold is also a random attractor of the whole manifold. This result extends the idea of the transverse stability analysis of deterministic dynamical systems in [1, 3]. As an explicit example, we discuss the complete synchronization in network of coupled maps with both stochastic topologies and maps, which extends the well-known master stability function (MSF) approach for deterministic cases to stochastic cases.

Abstract:We study ergodic properties of partially hyperbolic systems whose central direction is mostly contracting. Earlier work of Bonatti, Viana about existence and finitude of physical measures is extended to the case of local diffeomorphisms. Moreover, we prove that such systems constitute a C^2-open set in which statistical stability is a dense property. In contrast, all mostly contracting systems are shown to be stable under small random perturbations.

Abstract:We consider a large class of 2D area-preserving diffeomorphisms that are not uniformly hyperbolic but have strong hyperbolicity properties on large regions of their phase spaces. A prime example is the standard map. Lower bounds for Lyapunov exponents of such systems are very hard to estimate, due to the potential switching of stable and unstable directions. This paper shows that with the addition of (very) small random perturbations, one obtains with relative ease Lyapunov exponents reflecting the geometry of the deterministic maps.

Abstract:Under certain conditions, we construct a countable Markov partition for pointwise hyperbolic diffeomorphism on an open invariant subset , which allows the Lyapunov exponents to be zero. From this partition, we define a symbolic extension that is finite-to-one and onto a subset of O that carries the same finite f-invariant measures as O. Our method relies upon shadowing theory of a recurrent-pointwise-pseudo-orbit that we introduce. As a canonical application, we estimate the number of closed orbits for f.

Abstract:To illustrate the more tractable properties of random dynamical systems, we consider a class of 2D maps with strong expansion on large-but non-invariant-subsets of their phase spaces. In the deterministic case, such maps are not precluded from having sinks, as derivative growth on disjoint time intervals can be cancelled when stable and unstable directions are reversed. Our main result is that when randomly perturbed, these maps possess positive Lyapunov exponents commensurate with the amount of expansion in the system. We show also that initial conditions converge exponentially fast to the stationary state, equivalently time correlations decay exponentially fast. These properties depend only on finite-time dynamics, and do not involve parameter selections, which are necessary for deterministic maps with nonuniform derivative growth.
