Abstract:In this paper, we use the Lyapunov–Schmidt reduction and the S1 × S1-index which is due to Chenkui Zhong to prove that any exact symplectic diffeomorphisms on T2k × CPn × CPm have at least 1 + min {m, n} fixed points.

Abstract:We describe the S 1 -action on the Quot-scheme Quot(E n ) associated to the trivial bundle E n = CP 1 × C n . In particlular, the topology of the S 1 -fixed-point components in Quot(E n ) and the S 1 -weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [L-L-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus zero with target a flag manifold. The results on S 1 fixed points in this paper are used here to do explicit Mirror Principle computations in the case of Grassmannian manifolds. In fact, Mirror Principle computations involve only a certain distinguished subcollection of the S 1 -fixed-point components. These components are identified and are labelled by Young tableaus. The S 1 -equivariant Euler class eS1 of the normal bundle to these components is computed. A diagrammatic rule that allows one to write down eS1 directly from the Young tableau is given. From this, the aforementioned intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable maps can be worked out. Two examples are given to illustrate our method. Using our method, the A-model for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in a Grassmannian manifold can now also be computed explicitly. This work is motivated by the intention to provide further details of mirror principle and to understand the relation of mirror principle to physical theory. Some related questions are listed for further study.

Abstract:It is proved that any harmonic map ϕ : Ω →Sp(N) from a simply connected domain Ω ⊆R 2⋃ | ∞ | into the symplectic groupSp(N) ⊂U(2N) with finite uniton number can be factorized into a product of a finite number of symplectic unitons. Based on this factorization, it is proved that the minimal symplectic uniton number of ϕ is not larger thanN, and the minimal uniton number of ϕ is not larger than 2N - 1. The latter has been shown in literature in a quite different way.
On Fixed-Point Sets of $\Z_2$-Tori in Positive Curvature

Abstract:In recent work of Kennard, Khalili Samani, and the last author, they generalize the Half-Maximal Symmetry Rank result of Wilking for torus actions on positively curved manifolds to $\mathbb{Z}_2$-tori with a fixed point. They show that if the rank is approximately one-fourth of the dimension of the manifold, then fixed point set components of small co-rank subgroups of the $\Z_2$-torus are homotopy equivalent to spheres, real projective spaces, complex projective spaces, or lens spaces. In this paper, we lower the bound on the rank of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-torus to approximately $n/6$ and $n/8$ and are able to classify either the integral cohomology ring or the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-cohomology ring, respectively, of the fixed point set of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-torus.

Two Applications of Topological Fixed Point Theory

Abstract:We give a new proof of Cartan's fixed point theorem using topological fixed point theory. For an odd dimensional, simply connected and complete manifold having non-positive curvature, we further prove that every isometry with finite order not only fixes a point, but also maps a pencil of geodesics to itself. We apply similar techniques to the automorphism group of a smoothly bounded domain in the complex plane having connectivity three or more. We show that any prime dividing the order of this finite group must divide a certain integer depending only on the connectivity of the domain.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Abstract:In this paper we prove that the Torelli part of the symplectomorphism groups of the $n$-point ($n\leq 4$) blow-ups of the projective plane is trivial. Consequently, we determine the symplectic mapping class group. It is generated by reflections on $K_{\omega}- $spherical class with zero $\omega$ area.

Abstract:We extend our earlier work in [TZ1], where an analytic approach to the Guillemin-Sternberg conjecture [GS] was developed, to cases where the Spin^c-complex under consideration is allowed to be further twisted by certain exterior power bundles of the cotangent bundle. The main result is a weighted quantization formula in the presence of commuting Hamiltonian actions. The corresponding Morse-type inequalities in holomorphic situations are also established.
Symplectic torus actions on complete intersections

Abstract:In [20] the author classified complete intersections of dimension $8k$ admitting a Hamiltonian circle action, under a certain assumption on the fixed point set. In this paper, we improve this result in two directions. Firstly, in dimension $8$ we remove the assumption on the fixed point set. Secondly, in any dimension we prove the result under an analogous assumption on the fixed point set. We also give some applications of our methods to the unimodality of Betti numbers of symplectic manifolds having a Hamiltonian $S^1$-action, and discuss the relation to symplectic rationality problems.

Abstract:Let $M^{2n}$ be a unitary torus $(2n)$-manifold, i.e., a $(2n)$-dimensional oriented stable complex connected closed $T^n$-manifold having a nonempty fixed set. In this paper we show that $M$ bounds equivariantly if and only if the equivariant Chern numbers $< (c_1^{T^n})^i(c_2^{T^n})^j, [M]>=0$ for all $i, j\in {\Bbb N}$, where $c_l^{T^n}$ denotes the $l$th equivariant Chern class of $M$. As a consequence, we also show that if $M$ does not bound equivariantly then the number of fixed points is at least $\lceil{n\over2}\rceil+1$.

Abstract:We introduce a new version of symplectic annular Khovanov homology and establish spectral sequences from (i) the symplectic annular Khovanov homology of a knot to the link Floer homology of the lift of the annular axis in the double branched cover; (ii) the symplectic Khovanov homology of a two-periodic knot to the symplectic annular Khovanov homology of its quotient; and (iii) the symplectic Khovanov homology of a strongly invertible knot to the cone of the axis-moving map between the symplectic annular Khovanov homology of the two resolutions of its quotient.

Abstract:Let C denote a convex subset within the vector space lp(·), and let T represent a mapping from C onto itself. Assume α=(α1,⋯,αn) is a multi-index in [0,1]n such that ∑i=1nαi=1, where α1>0 and αn>0. We define Tα:C→C as Tα=∑i=1nαiTi, known as the mean average of the mapping T. While every fixed point of T remains fixed for Tα, the reverse is not always true. This paper examines necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of fixed points for T, relating them to the existence of fixed points for Tα and the behavior of T-orbits of points in T's domain. The primary approach involves a detailed analysis of recurrent sequences in R. Our focus then shifts to variable exponent modular vector spaces lp(·), where we explore the essential conditions that guarantee the existence of fixed points for these mappings. This investigation marks the first instance of such results in this framework.

On a symplectic generalization of a Hirzebruch problem

Abstract:Motivated by a problem of Hirzebruch, we study $8$-dimensional, closed, symplectic manifolds having a Hamiltonian torus action with isolated fixed points and second Betti number equal to $1$. Such manifolds are automatically positive monotone. Our main result concerns those endowed with a Hamiltonian $T^2$-action and fourth Betti number equal to $2$. We classify their isotropy data, (equivariant) cohomology rings and (equivariant) Chern classes, and prove that they agree with those of certain explicit Fano $4$-folds with torus actions. Moreover, under more general assumptions, we prove several finiteness results concerning Betti and Chern numbers of $8$-dimensional, positive monotone symplectic manifolds with a Hamiltonian torus action.

New Fixed Points from Melonic Interactions

Abstract:Generalizations of vector field theories to tensors allow to similarly apply large-$N$ techniques but find a richer though often still tractable structure. However, the potential of such tensor theories has not been fully exploited since only a symmetry-reduced ``isotropic'' part of their phase space has been studied so far. Here we present for the first time the richness of the tensorial phase space applying the functional renormalization group to tensor fields of rank $r$ in the cyclic-melonic potential approximation including the flow of anomalous dimensions. Due to a decoupling of the flow equations of the $r$ couplings at given order, we find non-Gaussian fixed points in any regime of $0<s\le r$ non-vanishing coupling types. Each of these regimes contains isotropic fixed points of Wilson-Fisher type as well as new anisotropic fixed points. This new classification reveals a rich structure of renormalization group dynamics including candidates for asymptotic safe fixed points even at critical dimension. Considering the tensorial interactions as generating discrete geometries, the various fixed points correspond to continuum limits of distinguished ensembles of triangulations raising hope to find new classes of continuum geometry in this way.

Abstract:We use symplectic tools to establish a smooth variant of Franks theorem for a closed orientable surface of positive genus $g$; it implies that a symplectic diffeomorphism isotopic to the identity with more than $2g-2$ fixed points, counted homologically, has infinitely many periodic points. Furthermore, we present examples of symplectic diffeomorphisms with a prescribed number of periodic points. In particular, we construct symplectic flows on surfaces possessing only one fixed point and no other periodic orbits.

Lower bound on the number of fixed points for circle actions on 10-dimensional almost complex manifolds

Abstract:For a circle action on a compact almost complex manifold with a fixed point, the lower bound on the number of fixed points is known in dimension up to 12 except 10. In this paper, we show that if the circle group acts on a 10-dimensional compact almost complex manifold with a fixed point, then there are at least 6 fixed points. This minimum is attained by $\mathbb{CP}^5$ and $S^6 \times \mathbb{CP}^2$. We establish this lower bound by showing that there does not exist a circle action on a 10-dimensional compact almost complex manifold with 4 fixed points.

Abstract:A general fixed point theorem for isometries in terms of metric functionals is proved under the assumption of the existence of a conical bicombing. It is new for isometries of convex sets of Banach spaces as well as for non-locally compact CAT(0)-spaces and injective spaces. Examples of actions on non-proper CAT(0)-spaces come from the study of diffeomorphism groups, birational transformations, and compact Kähler manifolds. A special case of the fixed point theorem provides a novel mean ergodic theorem that in the Hilbert space case implies von Neumann's theorem. The theorem accommodates classically fixed-point-free isometric maps such as those of Kakutani, Edelstein, Alspach and Prus. Moreover, from the main theorem together with some geometric arguments of independent interest, one can deduce that every bounded invertible operator of a Hilbert space admits a nontrivial invariant metric functional on the space of positive operators. This is a result in the direction of the invariant subspace problem although its full meaning is dependent on a future determination of such metric functionals.
