Abstract:A series of Cr modified graphitic carbon nitride composites (Cr/g-C3N4) was synthesized via a facile wetness impregnation method. Depending on the doping of Cr, the prepared Cr/g-C3N4 catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the one-step hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with H2O2 as the oxidant under mild conditions. Subsequently, various characterization techniques, including XRD, FT-TR, TEM, XPS, N-2 adsorption-desorption, etc., were used to investigate the physicochemical properties of the prepared materials. The catalyst properties such as crystallinity, the main active Cr species and the surface area have been discussed, providing reasonable correlations for the superior catalyst behavior. With the optimization of the reaction parameters, the catalyst displayed remarkable catalytic ability with the highest phenol yield of 30.9%.

Abstract:Highly ordered mesoporous carbon of body-centered cubic structure was synthesized by the evaporation induced self-assembly method using Pluronic F127 and phenolic resol as the template and carbon source, respectively. Vanadium species were introduced to the carbon support by both co-assembly and impregnation strategies for comparison. Ordered mesoporous carbon nanoparticles of the same body-centered cubic structure were also synthesized via a facile soft-template method, followed by the incorporation of vanadium species via impregnation. The obtained three different series of vanadium-containing carbon catalysts were tested in the direct benzene hydroxylation reaction using H2O2 as an oxidant. The vanadium supporting mesoporous carbon nanoparticles, due to the open framework and short channels for fast reactants diffusion and the easily accessible active vanadium species for reactants activation, exhibited superior catalytic activity to other series of catalysts. Particularly, the 4V/MCN-S catalyst showed the best catalytic performance among the studied catalysts with a benzene conversion of 38.2% and phenol selectivity of 96.1%, along with good stability during five recycles.

Abstract:A series of graphitic carbon nitride supported vanadium catalysts (xV/g-C3N4) with different vanadium contents (x/%) were prepared by impregnation. XRD, FT-IR, TEM, TG-DTG, nitrogen adsorption and XPS characterizations were conducted which revealed a strong interaction between the vanadium species and g-C3N4 support. 8V/g-C3N4 exhibited the highest activity and showed stable recyclability in the benzene hydroxylation reaction with a benzene conversion of 24.6% and phenol selectivity of 99.2% under the optimized conditions. Abstract:Effective and selective catalytic oxidation of benzene under moderate conditions remains a significant challenge. The surface properties of amorphous metal oxides differ significantly from those of crystalline oxides due to the presence of numerous unsaturated bonds and defects, resulting in variations in adsorption and catalytic activity. Here, a stable amorphous VO x /AC-H-DBD catalyst was synthesized using a green method in which the mixture of NH 4 VO 3 -H 2 O 2 composites and activated carbon (AC) was treated by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at room temperature and under an O 2 atmosphere. DBD treatment decomposes the NH 4 VO 3 -H 2 O 2 composites and causes partial reduction of V 5+ to V 4+ on the catalyst surface, leading to an increase in catalytic activity. Moreover, many oxygen-containing groups are introduced onto the surface of AC through this process, which enhance the dispersion of vanadium oxides on the support. The pretreatment of H 2 O 2 increased the V and O content on the catalyst surface and enhanced the interaction between vanadium oxides and supports, thus improving the catalytic activity. Under the optimized reaction conditions, VO x /AC-H-DBD showed a good and stable catalytic performance where a benzene conversion of 23.1% and a selective transformation of benzene to phenol of 94.8% was achieved. Our research may provide an environmentally benign method for producing amorphous catalysts with great stability and catalytic performance.

Abstract:A series of mesoporous Cux–V-HMS catalysts with different copper content were prepared by the co-synthesis method. The addition of copper improves the benzene adsorption ability of the catalyst and the redox property of vanadium species, which facilitate the benzene hydroxylation reaction. Among the catalysts studied, Cu0.90–V-HMS exhibited the best catalytic activity with a phenol yield of 29.0% compared with 20.7% over V-HMS catalyst.

Abstract:A series of metal oxide (V, Fe, Cu) supported graphene oxide (M/GO) catalysts have been prepared by the impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, XRD, FT-IR, and Raman spectroscopies and the results showed that the metal oxide nanoparticles were highly dispersed and successfully incorporated on graphene oxide sheets. Among the catalysts, V/GO exhibited the highest efficiency in direct hydroxylation of benzene using H2O2 as an oxidant in acetic acid solvent with a phenol yield of 22.7% and a selectivity of 98.4% under the optimized condition along with good recycle performance.

Abstract:V-HMS catalysts with different vanadium content have been prepared by co-synthesis method using dodecylamine as template. The isolated VO 4 species are successfully incorporated into the framework of HMS for the samples with low vanadium content. The effect of various reaction conditions on the hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with H 2 O 2 as oxidant in aqueous acetic acid solvent was investigated where the yield of phenol achieves 11.1% under the optimized condition.

Abstract:A novel bicomponent catalyst, VO2 supported on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with defects as promoter (VO2-defects/MWCNTs) was synthesized for the hydroxylation of benzene to phenol. In the bicomponent system, VO2 nanoparticles with 2–10nm were prepared by the spontaneous redox between V5+ and defects of MWCNTs. Moreover, defects of MWCNTs were firstly used as promoters for preventing the oxidation of phenol and transferring electrons in the catalysis. Thus, compared with other vanadium catalysts, VO2-defects/MWCNTs show excellent catalytic performance for the hydroxylation of benzene to phenol, which indicates defects as promoter are quite promising for catalyzing the hydroxylation of benzene.
Cu-dopedmesoporous VO_x-TiO_2 incatalytic hydroxylation of benzene to phenol

Abstract:Liquid phase hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with hydrogen peroxide over VOx-TiO2 catalyst samples with Cu as a second metal was investigated. A series of Cu/VOx-TiO2 (vanadium loading was 4.3%) catalysts were prepared within the range of Cu loading (0.29%–2.5%) and calcined at the temperatures of 350–650 °C. The catalyst samples were characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy, H2temperature-programmed reduction, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After the addition of Cu, the Cu/VOx-TiO2 catalyst had more ordered mesoporous structureas compared with the VOx-TiO2 catalyst, and the vanadium was monodispersed on the TiO2 support. The presence of Cu2+ ions on the catalyst surface was shown by XPS measurements. These Cu2+ ions probably contributed to the dispersion of vanadium on the surface of the TiO2 support, and the more facile reduction of VOx. The Cu2+ ions also strengthened the thermostability of the Cu/VOx-TiO2 catalyst. The effects of some other variables (Cu loading, catalyst amount, and reaction temperature) on the catalytic performance were also investigated.

Abstract:A series of Ce x -V-g-C3N4 catalysts with different cerium content were synthesized by a facile co-assembly method. Compared with pure V-g-C3N4 catalyst, the addition of cerium facilitated the high dispersion of vanadium species as well as the benzene adsorption ability of the corresponding catalysts. Also, the existence of cerium promoted the partial reduction of vanadium species, which improved the redox property of vanadium species as the active centres. The Ce x -V-g-C3N4 catalysts showed considerably improved activity in the benzene hydroxylation reaction compared with V-g-C3N4 catalyst. Among the catalysts studied, Ce0.07-0.07 V-g-C3N4 exhibited the best catalytic activity with a benzene conversion of 33.7% and a phenol yield of 32.3% with good structural and catalytic stability, while only 24.7% of benzene conversion and phenol yield of 24.2% were obtained over 0.07 V-g-C3N4.

Abstract:Fe-ZSM-5 zeolites with uniform crystal size and shape were synthesized by a hydrothermal method, and these parent zeolites were desilicated by an alkaline-treatment method to obtain mesoporous Fe-ZSM-5 (meso-Fe-ZSM-5) zeolites. Both Fe-ZSM-5 and meso-Fe-ZSM-5 zeolites were characterized by XRD, N-2 adsorption-desorption, ICP-AES, SEM, TEM, UV-vis, and TGA techniques and as catalysts they were used in the direct oxidation of benzene to phenol (BTOP) by N2O as oxidant. The meso-Fe-ZSM-5 catalysts show a much higher catalytic activity and stability, compared to the parent Fe-ZSM-5 catalysts. A comparison study on the uptakes of benzene in the parent and alkali-treated zeolites indicates that the internal mass-transfer limitations of the meso-Fe-ZSM-5 zeolites are significantly improved due to the introduction of intracrystalline mesoporosity, resulting in a better catalytic activity and stability in the BTOP reaction. Desilication in the alkaline medium of Fe-ZSM-5 crystals enables a more efficient utilization of the zeolite in the BTOP reaction that is strongly affected by diffusional limitations.

Abstract:The metal oxides CuMnCe and CeY washcoats on cordierite were prepared using an impregnation method, and then used as support for the active Pt component to prepare the Pt/CuMnCe and Pt/CeY monolithic catalysts for the deep oxidation of VOCs. In comparison with the Pt/CeY, CuMnCe, and CeY monolithic catalysts, the Pt/CuMnCe monolithic catalyst shows an excellent performance for toluene, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane oxidation and the T90% is low to 216, 200 and 260 degrees C, respectively. The active components Pt/PtO and CuMnCe result in a better synergetic interaction, which promote the catalyst reducibility, increase the oxygen mobility, and enhance the adsorption and activation of organic molecules. Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-mediated oxidation of benzene to phenol in a single step is a promising approach for green phenol production. Nevertheless, it remains a long-sought pursuit to construct robust and efficient heterogeneous catalysts with atomic precision. Here we present the synthesis of two robust V10 oxo clusters holding different capping ligands: named V10-BTA, and V10-CBTA. Single crystal analysis reveals two decavanadate clusters exhibit a distinct braced square-prism configuration with different benzotriazole ligands capping on the edges of the square-prism, and V10-BTA is an example of rare highly reduced vanadium cluster. Accordingly, functionalization of the V10 square-prism with organic linkers both provides enhanced structural stability and introduces porosity to the cluster assembly in terms of heterogeneous application, thus allowing more active sites to be accessible and elevating reactivity. Remarkably, V10-BTA exhibits outstanding catalytic performance in the one-pot hydroxylation reaction, obtaining benzene to phenol conversion of 32.2% with a phenol selectivity of 99%, arising from the synergistic interplay between the braced square-prism configuration and the active V sites as confirmed by control experiments. Besides, V10-BTA displays broad substrate compatibility and superior recyclability for six successive cycles. This study provides an imperative strategy to develop POV clusters with excellent stability, while contributes to high catalytic efficiency for some challenging chemical transformations.

Abstract:Direct Hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with high yield and selectivity has been the goal of phenol industrial production. Photocatalysis can serve as a competitive method to realize the hydroxylation of benzene to phenol owing to its cost-effective and environmental friendliness, however it is still a forbidding challenge to obtain good yield, high selectivity and high atom availability meanwhile. Here we show a series of supramolecular catalysts based on alkoxohexavanadate anions and quinolinium ions for the photocatalytic hydroxylation of benzene to phenol under UV irradiation. We demonstrate that polyoxoalkoxovanadates can serve as efficient catalysts which can not only stabilize quinolinium radicals but also reuse H(2)O(2)produced by quinolinium ions under light irradiation to obtain excellent synergistic effect, including competitive good yield (50.1 %), high selectivity (>99 %) and high atom availability.

Abstract:Three series of cesium salts of Keggin-type heteropoly acids(CsxH3+n-xPMo12-nVnO40,n=0,1,2,x=0.5～3.0) prepared by a solid synthesis method have been employed in the catalytic hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with H2O2.The effects of vanadium substitution number and cesium content on the catalytic activity,redox ability and hydrophobicity of the catalysts were studied.Cs2H3PMo10V2O40 exhibits high phenol yield(19.2%) and good reusability among the CsxH3+n-xPMo12-nVnO40catalysts.
Coupled Palladium-Tungsten Bimetallic Nanosheets/TiO2 Hybrids with Enhanced Catalytic Activity and Stability for the Oxidative Removal of Benzene

Abstract:Since the conventional Pd-based catalysts often suffer severe deactivation by water, development of a catalyst with good activity and moisture-resistance ability is of importance in effectively controlling emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Herein, we report the efficient synthesis of ultrathin palladium-tungsten bimetallic nanosheets with exceptionally high dispersion of tungsten species. The supported catalyst (TiO2/PdW) shows good performance for benzene oxidation, and 90% conversion is achieved at a temperature of 200 °C and a space velocity of 40 000 mL g-1 h-1. The TiO2/PdW catalyst also exhibits better water-tolerant ability than the traditional Pd/TiO2 catalyst. The high catalytic efficiency can be explained by the facile redox cycle of the active Pd2+/Pd0 couple in the close-contact PdO x-WO x-TiO2 arrangement. We propose that the reason for good tolerance to water is that the lattice oxygen of the TiO2/PdW catalyst can effectively replenish the oxygen in active PdO x sites consumed by benzene oxidation. A four-step benzene transformation mechanism promoted by the catalyst is proposed. The present work provides a useful idea for the rational design of efficient bimetallic catalysts for the removal of VOCs under the high humidity conditions.

Abstract:The GaSiAlO x composite oxide and the VO x /GaSiAlO x series catalysts have been prepared through the hydrothermal synthesis method. Meanwhile, the physicochemical properties of the catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS and FT-IR, and tested in the hydroxylation reaction of phenol. The morphology of the synthesized gallium-doped GaSiAlO x composite oxide was 3D cross-linked and coral-like from the SEM characterization. Meanwhile, the XPS characterization results indicate that when Ga was added, the valence state of the active center of the catalyst could be precisely regulated. Based on the precise regulation of the vanadium valence state by Ga2O3, the VO x /GaSiAlO x catalysts exhibited highly efficient catalytic activity. Under the optimal reaction conditions, the conversion rate of phenol was 71.4% and the selectivity for dihydroxybenzene was 92.3%.

Abstract:Multi-walled carbon nanotubes supported Fe3O4 catalysts (Fe/MWCNTs) were prepared for catalyzing the hydroxylation of benzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The iron species in Fe/MWCNTs is Fe3O4 due to the spontaneous reduction of partial Fe3+ on the defect sites of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which is different from the Fe2O3 in the active carbon supported iron (Fe/AC) and graphitic carbon supported iron (Fe/GC) catalysts prepared by the same procedure. The benzene conversion was enhanced by 3.5 and 5.4 times, and the selectivity to phenol was increased by 2.1 and 1.5 times over Fe/MWCNTs catalyst in reference to the latter two carbon-based catalysts. The high catalytic activity for Fe/MWCNTs catalyst mainly comes from the more efficient catalytic component of Fe3O4 and the beneficial topology of MWCNTs. The high selectivity to phenol should arise from the consumption of the excessive hydroxyl radicals by MWCNTs, hereby preventing the further oxidation of phenol. The catalytic performance of Fe/MWCNTs is also superior to other carbon-free support-based iron catalysts, such as Fe/gamma-Al2O3, Fe/MCM-41, Fe/HY and Fe/HZSM-5. Abstract:The liquid-phase selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol is a sustainable route for the synthesis of benzaldehyde. Wherein, the exploration of heterogeneous and cheap metal oxide catalysts instead of noble metal catalysts is of interest in both practical implementation and green chemistry. Herein, vanadium dioxide (VO2) nanosheets were prepared via a one-step hydrothermal reduction of V2O5 by citric acid. The hydrothermal temperature and time played important roles in determining the crystalline structure, morphology, and distributions of V valences of VO2 materials. In the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol by atmospheric O2, VO2 materials as heterogeneous catalysts showed catalytic activity. Based on XPS and O2-TPD analysis, The catalytically active sites were proposed as V4+ species Under reaction temperature of 95 °C, the maximum yield of benzaldehyde was up to 91.6% at 6 h, and the VO2-140-5 catalyst can be recycled at least five times without any obvious loss in activity.
