Abstract:In order to simplify mechanical structure of the cycloidal propeller and reduce mechanical components wear,a new control system of cycloidal propeller was designed.Step motors were used as the control mechanism of cycloidal propeller.The ralationship between the rotaing angle of the plate which blades was mounted on and the oscillating angle of the blades was modeled.By means of the model,the number of pulse for controling the step motors was obtained.These pulses made the controlled oscillating angle of blades accorde with the theory value.The result of simulation experiment demonstrates that the control system of cycloid propeller based on step motor works well and meets the control requirements of cycloidal propeller.

Abstract:The gear slicing technology has a wide range of applications, not only for involute gear but also for non-involute gear such as circular arc. Previous research shows that gear slicing is very suitable for the production of an RV reducer with high efficiency and precision. In view of this, a design method for slicing cutter is proposed aiming at the circular arc tooth in pinwheel housing of an RV reducer, and the cutter manufacturing and gear slicing experiments have been done. Firstly, two kinds of rake faces are provided, including plane rake face and curved rake face. Then, the working rake angle and relief angle are calculated and analyzed, and a comparison is made, which indicates that the curved rake face is more reasonable in theory. According to the shape characteristics of this kind of surface, a point-grinding method is proposed using a single-sided bevel wheel. At last, the above two kinds of slicing cutters are designed based on the parameters of the pinwheel housing in an RV40E reducer and manufactured on a five-axis grinding machine. The cutting experiment shows that the machining precision is high enough to meet the requirement of the workpiece.

Abstract:Abstract The steel wheel consists of wheel disc and rim. The wheel disc is manufactured by using power spinning process. The spinning process does not guarantee that the design scheme can be realized accurately. In this paper, the simulation method of the disc spinning process is investigated, and introduced to the lightweight design of steel wheel. Firstly, the power spinning process is simulated, and the validity of the simulation method is verified by test. Then two optimization schemes of the disc are proposed. Finally, the forming quality of the products from the optimization schemes is analyzed by spinning process simulation. The results show that the product from the optimal scheme may not be optimal since the effect of the forming quality in the spinning process. To obtain the optimal performance of product, it is very necessary to evaluate the design scheme by introducing the disc spinning process in the design stage of wheel disc.

Abstract:The involute spline made by cold-rolling have many advantages. This method can increase the production efficiency, save material, prolong the cutting tool's life, and improve the dimensional accuracy. Because the metal fiber continues between the spline's teeth, wearing resistance of the spline's teeth side is better and intensity of the teeth is higher. The cold rolling is the development trend of involute spline manufacturing. And the design of the roller is the key point in the cold rolling processing. This paper analyses the principle of cold rolling for involute spline and sets up the design model of roller. Because of the plastic deformation, the amendment method is introduced according to experiment data. On the basis of research of the main algorithm, the roller CAD system is developed for the involute spline and the roller simulation system is built. The roller CAD system and the simulation system have been put into practice and the roller design model and the amend method proved to be correct in the practice. The application meets the urgent need in the spline manufacturing.

Abstract:To meet the requirements of the special structure of gear in aviation,aerospace,automotive,wind energy and other industry,a new method of gear machining,gear slicing,is proposed to improve the limitation of current gear machining method for not run-through inner gear without recess.The concept and characteristics of gear slicing are proposed in view of the realization of gear machining,chip formation,and the exclusion of chip.The principle of gear slicing is opened out based on the meshing principle of staggered axial helical gears.According to the principle of gear slicing,the movements required in gear machining and the relationship between the movements are made certain.So the movement model is established.The relative speed at cutting point is learned and the factors affecting the speed are analyzed to prove the feasibility of gear slicing based on the knowledge of differential geometry.A machining practice is performed using the slicing machine tool and slicing cutter designed by self to prove the feasibility of gear slicing again.Finally,the conclusion is made and the topics of further research are pointed out.

Abstract:Relief milling cutter is a kind of special tool widely used in the milling processing of the shaped surface or the shaped groove in the mechanical industry. The operation of relief grinding is the key to manufacturing relief milling cutter with high accuracy. At present, approximate algorithms are applied to the acquirement of section of grinding wheel to manufacture its rolling ball. Then wheel's rolling ball to roll and finish forming grinding wheel and the wheel to grind the relief milling cutter in most relief grinding operations, manufacturing cost is high, the quality can't be guaranteed and the application of this kind of cutter is limited in the complicated process. Another factor of influencing the tool's performance is the shape of the teeth back curve. According to the theoretical analysis and research, the best shape for the teeth back curve of the relief milling cutter is Logarithm Spiral Curve. This paper discusses the relationship among the profile of work-piece, profile of cutter and section of grinding wheel. On the basis of researches into the input method of work-piece's profile, the design method of milling cutter profile and the calculating method of section of the grinding wheel, the CAD system of forming grinding wheel section for relief grinding is developed to accomplish the design of shaped wheel's profile automatically, which improves the quality and efficiency of design and lays down a foundation for the CAD/CAM repairing system of forming grinding wheel and the CAD/CAM unity of the relief milling cutter.

Abstract:Spiral bevel gears are key components in many mechanical transmission systems, and their production is always of great interest to industry, and hence, subjected to intensive research widely. The present machining methods for manufacturing spiral bevel gears, including the so called five-cut method and completing method, have drawbacks such as low processing efficiency, requiring complex calculations and high requirements on the machine-tool performance, respectively. To solve the above problems, the duplex spread blade method is proposed. Firstly, geometric parameters and machine setting parameters were comprehensively considered, and then a modified reference point was selected to deduce the machine setting parameters. Tooth contact analysis (TCA) model considering misalignment was established to check meshing performance, the influence of cutter parameters and misalignment on meshing performance was studied. As the research reveals that the cutter radius has an effect on the bias of contact trace, cutter number has an impact on the position of contact pattern. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical which verified the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method. The results of this paper have a guiding significance and enrich the machining method for spiral bevel gear.

Abstract:To reduce tooth surface errors and improve the quality of tooth surface morphology for the spiroid face gear manufactured roughly by die-casting, a method of shaving processing for this type of gears was developed. According to the differential geometry and the meshing theory of spatial crossed axes gears, the kinematics of the shaving processing for the spiroid face gear was analyzed, while the cutting velocity of both contact tooth surfaces was derived to illustrate the feasibility of gear shaving. With the designed tooth geometry of the shaving cutter, the simulation of generation of tooth surfaces for the spiroid face gear was developed. Machining experiments for such type gears were performed on a five-axis computer numerical control machine tool (CNC machine) with the axially grooved shaving cutters. The geometric error measurement of the shaved spiroid face gears was determined by D40 CNC gear measuring center. The research results are of sound great significance to improve the engagement and lubrication for the spiroid face gears.

Abstract:Oil saw is an important cut instrument in forest industry production.It transfers power through meshing between sprocket wheel and saw chain drive chip.We present a new method for saw chain meshing analysis,aiming at improving the meshing condition between the sprocket wheel and the saw chain drive chip so as to enhance the quality of the saw chain.Based on the saw chain stabilizing transmission meshing condition,the contour equation of drive chip is first built by geometric analysis according to the contour equation of sprocket wheel.Through coordinate transformation,the meshing formulae and theoretical drive chip flank profile equation are obtained along with meshing status at different time during one whole meshing zone.A MATLAB program is designed accordingly.A specific home-made saw chain is taken as an example for the meshing analysis and some tooth shape slicking suggestions are provided.

Abstract:To eliminate the tooth edge contact and improve the distribution of the tooth contact stress for face-hobbed spiral bevel gears in the case of heavy load and misalignment considered, optimizing the cutter blade profile is one of the most effective solutions. Generally, a segment of circle arc is used to substitute the straight line to get a desired theoretical tooth contact pattern, however, which is not sufficient for a heavy-loaded gear pair. A multi-segment cutter blade profile with Toprem, Flankrem, and cutter tip is introduced to obtain the ideal load and contact stress distribution. First, the structure of cutter head is described geometrically, the mathematical model of new cutter blade profile is built, and the equation for each section is given in detail. Then, the calculations of all design parameters are represented step by step. Finally, a contrast experiment between the original cutter and new optimal cutter, including tooth contact analysis, finite element analysis, and practical rolling check, is carried out for Oerlikon hypoid gears to verify effectiveness.
Effectiveness of cutout pattern and position on distortion of driven sprocket during heat treatment process

Abstract:Distortion during a hardening process increases the production costs significantly. The problem is even worse with the presence of weight reduction cut-outs of various shapes and sizes in the sprocket. The study of cutout patterns and positions is necessary for optimal design in which a minimum weight with a tolerable teeth bottom runout can be achieved. In this paper, cutouts having a different pattern, size and position have been studied. The study reveals the effect of the cutouts on the distortion of the sprocket during a heat treatment process. The finite element method, incorporating an elastic-plastic constitutive model, the phase transformation and temperature-dependent material properties, is used. The conclusions drawn from this study can guide in the selection of cutout patterns and positions during sprocket design.
Optimal Design and Performance Evaluation of Grinding Wheels with Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattice Structure

Abstract:High-performance grinding wheels are critical tools for precision surface generation. In precision grinding processes, the coolant supply at the wheel-workpiece interface is critical for reducing grinding temperature and detrimental friction. For better lubrication and chip removal performance, the cavities or pores need to be generated throughout the grinding wheel. The ideal morphology of pores in grinding wheels should be inter-connected and capable of providing sufficient coolant. Conventional grinding wheel design and fabrication methods can only passively generate closed circular pores by using pore-forming agents. Increasing the percentage of pores in this way generally leads to an uncontrollable reduction in mechanical strength, while the closed pores are insufficient in cooling performance. In this paper, the grinding wheels with triply periodic minimal surface lattice structure are designed and fabricated, which achieves the regulable and inter-connected internal structure of grinding wheels. Meanwhile, to balance the relationship between the structural properties and performance indicators of porous grinding wheels, an optimal design method for the porous structure of grinding wheels is proposed. Finally, the grinding performance of the novel grinding wheels in comparison to electroplated diamond grinding wheels is investigated in terms of grinding force, specific grinding energy and ground surface roughness.

Abstract:Strain wave gearing is widely applied in robotics and aerospace because of its zero-backlash and high gear ratio. Its circular spline (CS) is a rigid internal gear engaged with a flex spline (FS), driven by the wave generator's rotation. Obtaining the CS's tooth profile is difficult because the FS has a deformed ellipse shape caused by the wave generator. Furthermore, most CSs are manufactured by gear shaping and thus are lower precision and productivity comparing to external gears produced by gear hobbing. Power skiving is recently applied to overcome this problem. Mathematical models of CS and its skiving tool are established here. Moreover, a cylindrical tool is submitted to make tool manufacturing easier than a conical tool. A novel design for the error-free cylindrical tool and the skived gear is eventually derived. By modifying machine settings of the skiving process, it provides a relief angle to avoid the cylindrical tool rubbing with the internal gear. This manufacturing process is conducted on a six-axis CNC bevel gear cutting machine. An error analysis of the VERICUT cutting simulation result confirms the correctness of the proposed models.

Solving the Screw Compressor Rotor-Forming Grinding Wheel Using the Edge Detection Method Based on the Graphic Method

Abstract:As a complex grinding wheel for special use, the screw compressor rotor-forming grinding wheel needs to be designed according to the specific profile of the workpiece. The design process is complicated and difficult to grasp, and various design issues are likely to occur. This study is based on the design theory of helical rotor-forming grinding wheels. Here, disc-shaped forming grinding wheels for machining a helical surface were studied, with discrete point workpiece cross-sections as examples. MATLAB was used as the development tool, and the Unigraphics motion simulation function was applied to establish a 3D model of screw rotors and design the forming grinding wheel for machining the helical surface. Additionally, the edge shape of the grinding wheel obtained with the analytical method and the edge shape obtained with the edge detection method based on the graphic method and the alpha-shape algorithm were compared. The results of this comparison show that the edge shape of the grinding wheel obtained by the edge detection method had high precision and was easy to solve. This method can also be used for the design of other similar conjugated products such as gears, worms, and grinding wheels. The research findings provide important reference value for the design and machining of screw rotors and grinding wheels.

Abstract:High porosity will bring about a great deal of contributions for metal-bonded grinding wheels. In this research, cellular structures, including octahedron, truncated octahedron, and stellated octahedron, are chosen as porous structures for a grinding wheel and fabricated using selective laser melting (SLM) with diamond/AlSi10Mg mixed powders. Moreover, the microstructure and bonding condition of SLM-fabricated composite are investigated. Additionally, morphological properties, mechanical properties, and permeability of three different porous structures are studied and compared with each other based on experiment and simulation. It is revealed that the microstructure of SLM-fabricated composite exhibits anisotropic due to the layered manufacturing essence. Furthermore, the cladding state of diamond grits is good and strong interface forms between diamond and AlSi10Mg. Besides, both mechanical performance and permeability of octahedron structure are the best, making it a potential structure for a high-performance porous grinding wheel.
Analysis on design and optimization of a new vertical counter-roller spinning machine with four pairs of rollers

Abstract:The counter-roller spinning machine is of great significance for the flexible manufacturing of ultra-large thin-wall cylindrical workpieces.Therefore, the structure design of vertical counter-roller spinning machine was conducted, and the structures of each component and the whole machine were simulated by software Solidworks.Then, their structures were optimized.The results show that the maximum displacement of each component is smaller than 0.15 mm, and the maximum equivalent stress is much lower than the yield strength of selected materials.Therefore, the machine can safely work under the given load.In addition, the stiffeners are added to the spinning machine frame to improve the structure stiffness and machine precision.Finally, a new vertical counter-roller spinning machine with four pairs of rollers were manufactured which could carry 60 k N in the radial direction and 150 k N in the axial direction, and the counter-roller spinning experiment of aluminium alloy cylindrical workpiece was conducted successfully.

Abstract:The structure of the wheel hub was analyzed by the topology optimization module in the Workbench. According to the analysis results, the structure of the wheel hub was redesigned. Comparing the optimization of the deformation displacement, stress and quality of the wheel to before, it can be found, the deformation of the wheel displacement is ignored, but the quality is reduced from 9.5693kg to 7.3619kg, which achieves the purpose of car lightweight. Finally, the CNC programming module of CATIA software is used to simulate the machining of the automobile wheels, and the G code is executed by the CNC machine tool. The processability and processing efficiency of the products are improved accordingly, which shortens the products from design to manufacturing, and greatly enhances the competitiveness of enterprises.

Abstract:Abstract A novel tooth surface design method of face-hobbed spiral bevel gears is proposed, which utilizes a solid cutter without axis tilting through tool path control combining with optimized cutter blade profile to control tooth contact patterns and realize tooth lengthwise chamfering. Firstly, a gear tooth surface generating plan of tool path controlling actively is developed, the mathematical model of the tool path is built, and the equations are given in detail, the determination method of all control parameters is also described. Next, the tooth surface functions of generating gear and machined gear are established based on a mathematic model of the traditional cradle machine tool. Then, the machine setting is also given in concise equations. Finally, the tooth contact analysis is also conducted for a specific gear pair to validate the validity and the reasonability of the new tooth modification method.

Abstract:Objective To introduce a new generating method for the machining of a cylindrical gear with symmetric arcuate tooth trace. Methods Adopting this method, the key problems of mismatch control and manufacturing of symmetric arcuate tooth trace gears are solved by using suitable cutter tilt and a new generating method with double-edge gear-wheel cutter. The machining principle is analyzed and the mathematical model of generating motion is established. Then the tooth flank equation and differential geometrical parameters are discussed. Results The minim alteration of cutter tilt will make the contact flank area change so as to satisfy the special requirements. It is easy to realize the tip relief of gearing by altering coefficients of every moving axis. Because the tooth has the arc shape, the symmetrical arcuate cylindrical gears have higher overall strength and it is easy to perform the flank grinding for high precision. Conclusion This new generating method has higher productivity. It is easy to get a perfect contact zone and fully give play to the potential bearing capacity of the gears. The symmetrical arcuate cylindrical gears can be used in highly durable and heavy duty gearing applications.
