Abstract:Recent electronic industry developments require a variety of compact and high-performance heat sinks for the heat dissipation of electronic devices. In this paper, on the basis of a new type of heat pipe called the metal foam multichannel heat pipe (metal foam MCHP) proposed by our team, an experimental apparatus on its heat transfer characteristics was built. The heat transfer characteristics of the metal foam MCHP with the distilled water as the working fluid were experimentally investigated in a heat flux range of (18750-112500) W/m(2), a filling ratio range of 0.1-0.6 and single-sided/double-sided heating modes. The experimental results showed that the working fluid could flow up and down in the metal foam MCHP, and thus the heat was transferred from the evaporation section to the condensation section during the operation. The thermal resistance of the metal foam MCHP decreased with the increase of the heat flux. When the heat flux was up to 112500 W/m(2), the thermal resistance decreased to 0.142 degrees C/W. The optimal filling ratio of the metal foam MCHP charging with the distilled water was 0.2. During the experiment, the temperature fluctuations of each measuring point in the evaporation section were almost within 2 degrees C and the temperature differences of different measuring points in the evaporation section were within 8 degrees C. The thermal resistances of the metal foam MCHP under the single-side heating mode and the double-sided heating mode were compared, and the thermal resistance of the metal foam MCHP was found to be higher under the single-sided heating mode. In addition, compared with the traditional PHPs, the metal foam MCHP showed better heat transfer performance and better stability and uniformity of the evaporation temperature. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:This paper focuses on the heat transfer performance of semi-open heat pipe which is a new type of heat pipe. After analyzing its condensation heat transfer mechanisms theoretically, several semi-open heat pipes in different length ratios and upper hole diameters are studied experimentally and compared with the same dimensions closed heat pipes. Experimental results show that the heat transfer performance of semi-open heat pipe becomes better by increasing heat transfer rate. At the first transitional point, the heat transfer performance of semi-open heat pipe approaches the level of the closed heat pipe. It is suitable to choose upper small hole about 1 mm in diameter and length ratio larger than 0.6 for the semi-open heat pipe.

Abstract:Based on temperature difference method,an ultra-fine high-temperature heat flux meter was designed to measure the heat flux on wall surface of a supercritical boiler,which is able to accurately acquire the heat flux without retrofitting the water wall.To further investigate the heat-transfer characteristics of the meter and optimize its design,modeling analysis and experimental study were conducted to analyze the effects of the thermal conducting component's thickness and hot end temperature on the sensitivity and response time of the heat flux meter via a one-dimensional transient heat-transfer model.Results show that,with the rise of the thickness of relevant thermal conducting components,both the sensitivity and response time increase,thus optimal design parameters can be obtained for the heat flux meter under the premise of optimum sensitivity and response time.Through the calibration of a black-body furnace and field tests,the calculation results are proved to agree well with actual measurements;however,the real response time is longer than calculated one,due to the external environment being not the ideal steady-state boundary condition in calibration.

Abstract:A breakthrough from the construction of traditional heat meter is made. A heat meter with transformable rotary-wings is developed by making some modification pm a hot-water meter. The rotary-wings of the heat meter are made from metal sheet with two layers typed 5J11, and the precision of the heat meter is tested in hot-water. When the temperature of hot-water is between 40 degree and 80 degree, the error is less than ±5%. Compared with other heat meters, this heat meter with trans formable rotary-wings is much simpler and cheaper.

Abstract:Aiming at the shortcomings of the traditional engineering experience in designing thin-film heat flow meters, such as low precision and long iteration time, the finite element analysis model of thin-film heat flow meters is established based on finite element simulation methods, and a double-type thin-film heat flow sensor based on a copper/concentrate thermopile is made. The influence of the position of the thermal resistance layer, heat flux density and thickness of the thermal resistance layer on the temperature gradient of the hot and cold ends of the heat flow sensor were comprehensively analyzed by using a simulation method. When the applied heat flux density is 50 kW/m2 and the thermal resistance layer is located above and below the thermopile, respectively, the temperature difference between the hot junction and the cold junction is basically the same, but comparing the two, the thermal resistance layer located above is more suitable for rapid measurements of heat flux at high temperatures. In addition, the temperature difference between the hot and cold contacts of the thin-film heat flux sensor increases linearly with the thickness of the thermal resistance layer. Finally, we experimentally tested the response–recovery characteristics of the sensors, with a noise of 2.1 μV and a maximum voltage output of 15 μV in a room temperature environment, respectively, with a response time of about 2 s and a recovery time of about 3 s. Therefore, the device we designed has the characteristic of double-sided use, which can greatly expand the scope of use and service life of the device and promote the development of a new type of heat flow meter, which will provide a new method for the measurement of heat flow density in the complex environment on the surface of the aero-engine.

Abstract:The ultrasonic heat meter is a meter for measuring the flow rate and showing the releasing or absorbing heat vale of the water flowing through the heat exchanging system. The calculation of two physical quantities, the water flow through the meter and the temperature difference between the exit and entrance of pipeline indicates that the ultrasonic heat meter has higher technological performances and more accurate measuring results than that of the water miter and energy meter commonly used in the past. Nowadays, the ultrasonic heat meters has been used successfully in heating systems of factories and houses. This paper introduces the systemic principles and systemic structure of the ultrasonic heat meter. flowdischarge.

Abstract:The measurement principle and system of the transient radiation heat flow meter with the lumped heat capacity were studied. The measurement software and the design method of the data processing module were introduced, and the method for stabilizing natural convection and reducing heat conduction was proposed. The meter was used to measure square wave radiation heat flow and was compared with the total radiation radiometer. The results showed it has quick dynamic response and high accuracy. This system can be used with multi-sensor and heat flow integral.

Abstract:Focusing on the problem of heat-flux measuring in complex and extreme circumstances, a new measuring method based on infrared thermography was proposed. Be superior to traditional radiation heat flow meter which can only measure heat flow at one point, the thermal distribution and heat flow distribution could be gotten easily and accurately in one time with help of a made-to-measure beacon, combined the advantages of contact and non-contact measurement. This study was divided by three parts, theoretical analysis, system construction and numerical simulation. Less than 2% theoretical error was obtained which verifies the accuracy and feasibility of heat-flux measurement technology based on infrared thermography.

Abstract:This study details an experimental method for the accurate and rapid thermal characterization of low-intermediate temperature heat pipes (< 200 °C). The aim of this work was to provide a method of measuring the thermophysical characteristics of heat pipes while providing definitive uncertainty values that enable accurate performance estimations prior to implementation into electronic systems. To achieve this, the apparatus used two heat flow meters, constituting cubic copper interface blocks and thermoelectric modules that measured heat flow rates across the specimen while precise, well-calibrated (±0.01 K) thermistors measured axial temperature drops along its length. The method was first demonstrated by characterizing a cylindrical copper reference specimen of known thermal conductivity, indicating a high degree of accuracy, with measured effective thermal conductivity values within ±2 % of the correlated value. Concerning the thermal characterization of heat pipe specimens, thermal resistances and corresponding effective thermal conductivities of 0.122-0.08 K/W and 61.8-90.8 kW/m.K were measured for heat flow rates between 5-30W. Uncertainties within the derived characteristics were less than 3.2% for low heat flow rates (5-15 W) and less than 1.3% for higher heat flow rates (15-30 W). Moreover, a 450% reduction in characterization time was achieved compared to methods that employ thermally massive heat flow meters. In many aspects, the presented method achieved superior performance compared to those presented within the literature, proving its effectiveness for the accurate characterization and subsequent implementation of heat pipes into electronic systems.

Abstract:Accurate characterization of the thermoelectric module (TEM) is a prerequisite for its application. Among the physical parameters of the TEM, the heat flow is crucial but it is the most difficult parameter to measure. This paper summarizes the previously reported heat flow measurement methods and proposes a heat flow meter (HFM) for TEM characterization with a sandwich structure composed of copper-glass-copper. The key factors affecting the precision of the HFM are analyzed with the assistance of simulation to obtain its design principles and fabrication procedures. A self-designed calibration device is used to calibrate the HFM to understand the relationship between heat flow and temperature. The HFM can characterize the TEM's heat flow with its normalized root mean square error of no more than 2%. The accurate characterization of the TEM shows great potential to contribute to the development of TEM technologies.

Abstract:For accurately evaluating the thermal performance of micro flat heat pipe (MFHP),a ther-mal performance test system was constructed,which consists of heating/cooling systems,the test sec-tion,signal measurement module,visual system and the data processing and logging section.The test experiment was achieved in the vacuum environment to guarantee that the input heat can mostly be transferred by MPHP.Input heat flux and temperature at different positions of MFHP were measured, and then two thermal parameters of thermal resistance and effective thermal conductivity could be ob-tained.The thermal performances of both MFHPs with working fluid and without working fluid were investigated in the test experiment.The results show that the thermal conductivity of MFHP with working fluid is three times as much as that of MFHP without working fluid when input power is 2W, while the thermal resistance is 3.5 times lower.Therefore,the thermal performance test experiment system in this paper can be used to evaluate the MFHP effectively.

Abstract:Heat pipe is an efficient heat transfer element based on two-phase natural circulation, which has advantages of simple structure, strong heat transfer ability, and good isothermal performance. Heat pipes are widely used in heat transfer and other fields, and especially have important applications in nuclear engineering. One of its most important characteristics is the heat transfer limit. In this work, heat transfer limits are first reviewed, and the detailed calculation equations are presented. Then, a Matlab code to calculate heat transfer limits as well as the thermal conductance are provided. Second, an experimental setup for testing the heat transfer characteristics of heat pipes was developed, which could be used to measure the thermal conductance as well as the heat transfer limits. The calculated results show that, for water heat pipes, the capillary limit mainly affects heat transfer in low temperature conditions, while in high temperature conditions, boiling limit dominates. In addition, the experiment results show that the thermal conductance of the measured heat pipe is 7267 W/(m^2*K), which agrees with the calculation result.

Abstract:A novel flat heat pipe with sintering metal felt wick was put forward,which has features of high heat dissipation capacity,high permeability,high mechanical strength,and convenient manufacture.The thermal performance of this novel flat heat pipe was experimentally investigated under natural convection cooling condition.The startup performance,temperature uniformity characteristics and effects of heating power and tilt angles on thermal performance of the novel flat heat pipe were also analyzed.The results show that the equivalent thermal conductivity of this novel flat heat pipe can be up to 11.2times higher than that of shell material of the heat pipe.The novel flat heat pipe can also have good temperature uniformity.

Abstract:A novel flat heat pipe with integral micro-grooved wick was put forward, and has the features of high efficiency of heat dissipation, high mechanical strength, light weight, low cost, convenient manufacture. A mathematical model predicting the heat and mass transport characteristics of the novel flat heat pipe was developed. The temperature, pressure and velocity field in the flat heat pipe were obtained. Moreover, thermal performance of the novel flat heat pipe was investigated experimentally. It is found that the equivalent thermal conductivity of the novel flat heat pipe can be 12.3 times higher than that of the heat pipe material. The novel flat heat pipe can have good temperature uniformity, and play a pronounced role in heat transfer enhancement. Abstract:A new design method for at plate heat pipe thermal spreader is put forward. A at heat pipe spreader is designed and manufactured based on the new method. The new design of the heat pipe can enhance the capillary effect and reduce the thermal conduction resistance. The temperature and thermal resistance of the heat pipe are obtained under different heat fluxes and the influences of working fluid filling are studied. The experimental results proved its good performance for temperature levelling.
