Abstract:This paper addresses high speed communication solution between 16 bit microcontrollerbased data acquisition system and PC/AT compatible computer. After 16 bit Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) peripheral interface of PC is analysed, a 16 bit parallel communication card is developed with three kinds of optional modes: poll, interrupt and DMA. On the side of microcontroller system a 16 bit parallel port is constructed to accommodate the ISA card inserted in the PC. The communication software is written in both assembly languages. The whole communication system employs hardware strobe and acknowledgement and a single stage buffer (MI/OM) with the merits of low complexity and reliable performance. The scheme presented here greatly satisfies the requirement of high speed data communication between microcontroller and PC and has been applied to actual mass storage data acquisition and analysis system.
