Abstract:Based on the analysis of vibration pattern of round bell and the comparison between different curvature and hardness distribution of almond shaped bell and cup shaped bell, the acoustic characteristics of two-tone effect and the short sound lasting property of the famous ancient Chinese chime-bells are physically analyzed. In order to investigate the function of the so-called Meis, whch are nipple-like nubs on the bell surface, an almond shaped bell with much higher Meis than the originals was cast for testing. The Fourier frequency analysis of the sound of the bell with high Meis was performed step by step while the height of the Meis was reduced gradually by grind. The results show that the Meis were originally designed not only for decoration, but also, probably more essentially, for filtering out the partials of higher frequencies and for adjusting the audio tone quality.

Abstract:Based on Donnell's thin shell theory and basic equations, the wave propagation method is discussed here in detail, which is used to investigate the vibration and sound radiation characteristics of non-uniform ring stiffened cylindrical shells under various boundary conditions. The structure damp effects of cylindrical shells are investigated and the ring ribs were considered very narrow, and the rib forces are considered in radial direction. The conclusion are drawn that with the structural loss factor changing large, the whole pressure level are changed little, but the peak of resonance are slacking down obviously; The shell's resonance frequency can be changed with irregular ring stiffened cylindrical shell.The work will give some guidelines for noise reduction of this kind of shell.

Abstract:This paper introduces two tuning methodologies of passive vibration absorbers named 'equal peaks' method and 'equal troughs' method respectively. By studying on the model of dynamic system, the optimal parameters are obtained. Furthermore, the results obtained by one method are compared to another one, and vice versa. The results show that the tuning methodologies have their own advantages and should be selected according to the industrial requirement. In the end, the responses of two methods to the excited force are compared in the time domain with Matlab.

Abstract:A finite element method was developed to calculate the tubularbell pitch by calculating the tubularbell vibration modes to determine the accordatura frequencies.The relationship between the pitch characteristics and the tube geometric parameters,including the diameters,lengths,and thicknesses,was investigated to obtain a series of frequency-geometry curves.Measurements of the tubularbell frequencies analyzed using fast Fourier transforms agree well with the calculational results,which shows that the method can be used in the design and manufacture of musical instruments.

Abstract:After 300 years of effort in many countries aimed at resolving the inharmonicity of the 12-interval equal-tempered scale, a pure scale of 53 tones was proposed in 1816–1890, but it can not be applied usefully owing to its very great complexity. A survey of ancient Chinese musical literature and instruments and deductions from “Jing-Fang's 60 Notes” of the Han Dynasty (209 BC-220 AD) and Emperor Liang-Wu's “Four Pass” scale (502–519 AD), led us to propose a 23-tone scale. Its error curve corresponds precisely with that of the 53-tone pure scale. The principle of Schisma is used for solving problems such as (a) that of the inharmonicity between Gong (do) and Jiao (mi), i.e., the major third; and (b) that the major and minor chords coexisted in an octave. We have derived a pure-temperament scale of 23 tones that can be modulated for every tonic and that is consistent with the modern pure scale of 53 tones. We show that this 23 unequal-interval pure scale is consistent with the intervals which were obtained by measurement from a stone flute made in the Qing Dynasty (1644–1908 AD).

Abstract:Calculation of electromagnetic vibration and noise for disk permanent magnet synchronous machines(DPMSM) by using the finite element method (FEM) is presented in this paper. The PULSE measuring system produced by the Danish B&K company for noise and vibration is used to measure a DPMSM in a anechoic chamber. Finally, both calculating and measuring results are analyzed, and the acoustic source is found in order to control the noise of machines.

Abstract:The variation of the vibration characteristics of a Huanghua pear was investigated using finite element simulations. A new image processing technique was used to obtain the unsymmetrical and un-spherical geometrical model of a pear. The vibration characteristics of this type of pear with the correlation of its behavior with geometrical configurations and material characteristics were investigated using numerical modal analysis. The results showed that the eigenfrequency increased with the increasing pear Young's modulus, while decreased with increasing pear density, and decreased with increasing pear volume. The results of this study provided foundation for further investigations of the physical characteristics of fruits and vegetables by using finite element simulations.

Abstract:To accurately describe the characteristics of a signal, the feature parameters in time domain and frequency domain are usually extracted for characterization. However, the total number of feature parameters in time domain and frequency domain exceeds twenty, and all of the feature parameters are used for feature extraction, which will result in a large amount of data processing. For the purpose of using fewer feature parameters to accurately reflect the characteristics of the vibration signal, a simple but effective vibration feature extraction method combining time-domain dimensional parameters (TDDP) and Mahalanobis distance (MD) is proposed, i.e., TDDP-MD. In this method, ten time-domain dimensional parameters are selected to extract fault features, and the distance evaluation technique based on Mahalanobis distance criterion function is also introduced to calculate the feature vector, which can be used to classify different failure types. Finally, the proposed method is applied to fault diagnosis of rolling element bearings, and experimental analysis results show that the proposed method can recognize different failure types accurately and effectively with only ten time-domain dimensional parameters and a small quantity of training samples.

Review of Scientific Instruments

Abstract:We develop a novel approach to match harmonics and vibration modes based on the mechanism of multiple tuning fork structure (MTFS), through which it is promising to realize arbitrary periodical vibrations in the resonant state. A prototype three-layer MTFS with first three harmonics is presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed principle. The matching process and experimental results confirm the unique advantages of MTFS, as discussed in the theoretical analysis. Typical periodical motions, including sawtooth, square, half-wave rectified, and full-wave rectified waveforms, are achieved by the syntheses of resonant harmonics.
Theoretic exploration of music therapy in traditional Chinese medicine based on five-tone theory in Inner Canon of Huangdi

Abstract:Music has been used as a healing force for thousands of years. Records of treating with music in China can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn. Ancient music therapy ideas were presented in Inner Canon of Huangdfiwith a core of five Zang linked to five-tone. Music can improve mood closely related to Zang according to five elements, in which way music brings benefits to health. Due to the lack of adequate records and evidence, the explanation of five-tone treatment by descendants is not objective and accurate. There is much debate on what the nature of five-tone is and how it should be used. Based on a quantity of literature, and combined with the author's own views, this article points out the misunderstanding of traditional Chinese music therapy in Inner Canon of Huangdfiat present and of ers some new styles of development.

Abstract:The vibration characteristics of flexural vibration disk in ultrasonic toning system were studied systematically through experiments.The results show that th e amplitude of vibration disk increases with the reducing of it\u0027s thickness,and when the disk is thin disk(the ratio between the thickness and radius is less than or e-qual to one fifths),the vibration of disk is flexural vibration,an d the good vibration effect can be ob-tained.And the maximal amplitude can rea ch20.5um,at the same time,the number of the wave crests and size can be o btained.There exist amplifying characteristics in the vibra tion of the disk.W hen the diameter of disk is not changed,the resonant frequency will decrease w ith the reducing of the thickness of disk.The resonance can be excited at diffe rent frequencies.The corresponding maximal amplitude value pro vides cer-tain reference value for the dimensional design and application of flexural vibration disk.

Abstract:Chinese traditional music, a vital expression of Chinese cultural heritage, possesses both a profound emotional resonance and artistic allure. This study sets forth to refine and analyze the acoustical features essential for the aesthetic recognition of Chinese traditional music, utilizing a dataset spanning five aesthetic genres. Through recursive feature elimination, we distilled an initial set of 447 low-level physical features to a more manageable 44, establishing their feature-importance coefficients. This reduction allowed us to estimate the quantified influence of higher-level musical components on aesthetic recognition, following the establishment of a correlation between these components and their physical counterparts. We conducted a comprehensive examination of the impact of various musical elements on aesthetic genres. Our findings indicate that the selected 44-dimensional feature set could enhance aesthetic recognition. Among the high-level musical factors, timbre emerges as the most influential, followed by rhythm, pitch, and tonality. Timbre proved pivotal in distinguishing between the JiYang and BeiShang genres, while rhythm and tonality were key in differentiating LingDong from JiYang, as well as LingDong from BeiShang.

Abstract:To obtain detail information of high-frequency vibration in cylindrical shell,the governing equation of energy density about bending vibration in cylindrical shell is developed based on the relationship of an energy balance and thin shell theory.A deduced second order equation models the far field energy distribution.The resulting equation is solved by means of finite element method.A comparison between the results of energy finite element analysis and statistical energy analysis indicates that the energy finite element analysis enables to get more detail information of high-frequency vibration.This governing equation is similar to the beam equation for only high-frequency axisymmetric bending vibration response of cylindrical shell.

Abstract:The resonant frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of steel thin-wall cylinder shell samples each containing an oblique crack are obtained by a laser holographic interferometry method. It is shown that the oblique cracks have a great effect upon the vibration characteristics of the shells, with the mode shapes of the shell being changed very much and looking very complicated. A kind of vibration appeared only in the local area round the crack which is called the partial vibration by this paper is discovered. The partial vibration, which is responsible for the complicated mode shapes, has resonant frequencies and modes of vibration of its own. The vibration appeared in the entire shell is called the original whole vibration. In a similar way, the original whole vibration has the resonant frequencies and modes of vibration of its own. When the resonant frequencies of the partial vibration close to that of the original whole vibration, the two kinds of vibrations will come together. So there are three kinds of vibration mode shapes: pure partial vibration mode shapes, pure original whole vibration mode shapes and the intercoupling vibration mode shapes in which partial vibration and original vibration interact with each other. The longer the crack is, the lower the resonant frequencies of the pure partial vibration and pure original whole vibration are, but the resonant frequencies of the intercoupling vibration occasionally shows an inverse tendency, which is a phenomenon which may be confused with two kinds of the resonant frequencies.

Abstract:The article analyzed the modal of disc brake, the intrinsic characteristics of each disc brake parts were obtained, using modal tests to verify the accuracy of the numerical simulation method; by comparing different vibration mode and natural frequency of the brake parts,. predicting the frequency which vibration may occur, aiming at resonance frequency which is easy to occur, improving the structure of the disc brake to improve each order natural frequency, the resonance of the disc brake is effectively reduced, the braking noise was decreased, The study laid a foundation for vibration and noise control of the disc brake.
