Abstract:The performance of a single-phase shunt active power filter with adaptive detecting circuit based on the adaptive noise canceling theory is presented. The proposed scheme employs a PWM voltage-source inverter and has two important characteristics. First, it operates with a fixed switching frequency; second, it can compensate the reactive power and the current harmonic components of nonlinear loads. The mathematical model of the PWM voltage-source inverter employed in the active power filter is given and an analogue adaptive detecting circuit used for detecting harmonic and reactive components of the load currents is developed and realized. The effect of the synchronous link inductor, the minimum on-time and dead-time, and the voltage across dc capacitor of the voltage-source inverter on operating performance and the design criteria of the link inductor and the dc capacitor are discussed in detail. Finally, the experimental results obtained from a 1-kVA prototype, which is used for compensating reactive power and the harmonic components of inductive and capacitive load currents, are presented and analyzed. The feasibility and the features of the proposed system are confirmed by the results.
