Abstract:We investigated the effect of small amounts of ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 on compound fertilizer granulation. We examined the following raw materials: humic acid, ammonium chloride, urea, potassium chloride, and monoammonium phosphate. The mass ratio of organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium was typically 22:17:7:2. In the absence of (NH4)2SO4, the granulation rate of the compound fertilizer was low, and increased significantly following the addition of 1–2% (NH4)2SO4. We suggested the following physical and chemical processes as potential mechanisms: (NH4)2SO4 promoted the conversion of yellow flue gas desulfurization gypsum into gypsum whiskers; (NH4)2SO4 interacted with humic acid and urea to generate a new complex; urea sulfate was formed under acidic conditions. The combined effect of the above physical and chemical processes was an increase both in the rate of interactions between the materials and in system viscosity, which has the end result of increasing the granulation rate.

Effect of Combined Application of Potassium,Urea with DCD or Different Organic Materials on Nitrogen Transformation and Decompostion in Vegetable Soils

Abstract:A soil incubation experiment was carried out to explore the effect of combined application of potassium,urea with DCD or different organic materials on NO3——N and NH4+-N content in vegetable soils,and the relationship between urease and the activities of invertase.The results showed that lower NO3——N content and higher NH4+-N content in soil was observed in the treatment of combined application urea with DCD,but addition of organic manure to urea did not show notable effect on NO3-N and NH4+-N content in the soil.The activities of soil urease and invertase were significantly higher in the combined application of organic manure with urea than that of single urea or urea with DCD treatments,but insignificant difference was found among different potassium levels.

Abstract:This study investigates the synthesis of potassium sulfate through the conversion of potassium chloride and ammonium sulfate, showcasing the viability of this process. Through systematic experimentation, optimal conditions and the stoichiometric ratio of starting components are determined. The study reveals that in an aquatic environment, the utilization of NH4 + ions reaches an impressive 94-95%. The isolation of potassium sulfate from the liquid phase is achieved through a combination of evaporation and subsequent crystallization. The resulting product is characterized through various analytical methods, offering valuable insights into its composition and potential applications. This research contributes to the advancement of sustainable potassium sulfate production methodologies with implications for agricultural and industrial sectors.
Preparation of Starch Sulphate Using Concentrated Sulfuric Acid and Propanol

Abstract:Using the mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and n-propanol as sulphonating agent, the starch sulfate was prepared. The effects of some important factors, such as reaction temperature and time, liquid-to-solid ratio and the ratio of concentrated sulfuric acid to n-propanol in the reactant mixture, on the yield and degree of substitution of the starch sulfate prepared were investigated. The optimized preparation conditions were obtained as follows: the ratio of concentrated sulfuric acid to n-propanol is 1.8, the liquid-to-solid ratio of reactant is 30, reaction temperature and time are -2℃ and 16 h, respectively. Using above preparation conditions, the degree of substitution of the starch sulfate prepared can reach about 0.58; and it can be controlled to be 0.1～0.6 by adjusting the preparation conditions. Since in the new method developed for the preparation of starch sulfate in the present work not any toxic reagent is used, it is an environment-friendly and economic process, and the starch sulfate prepared has a potential application for the medical uses.

Abstract:K2SO4 is a kind of potassic fertilizer, which is mainly prepared through converting KCl with dissolved sulfate or H2SO4. In this study, four-compartment electrodialysis was used to convert KCl with (NH4)2SO4 into K2SO4 to overcome the shortcomings of traditional methods. The phase of product crystals was identified by XRD and the crystal composition was determined by the ion content. Economic evaluation was conducted, and the effects of operation variables on conversion performance were investigated. Results showed that as current density increases from 10 to 25 mA/cm2, operation time decreases from 135 to 55 min while energy consumption increases from 0.26 to 0.50 kw·h/kg K2SO4. A slightly higher than theoretical molar ratio of (NH4)2SO4 to KCl can ensure the complete conversion of KCl into K2SO4. In addition, final K2SO4 concentrations could be increased by reducing the initial K2SO4 tank volume. Finally, higher temperature is beneficial for conversion performance and subsequent evaporation crystallization.

Abstract:An experimental study was carried out on the preparation of potassium sulfate from potassium chloride by electrodialytic ion substitution. Effects of sulfate species, current density, and molar ratio of ammonium sulfate to potassium chloride were investigated. Results showed that ammonium sulfate was regarded as the optimum sulfate source because of the lowest energy consumption and cheap raw materials. When current density was set as 20 or 30 mA/cm(2), the generated products can conform to the Chinese Government standard (GB20406-2006). A higher molar ratio can promote the substitution reaction more completely but results in larger loss of K+ ions and more increment of NH4+ ions in products. Moreover, a mathematical model was established to predict the product concentration. Results showed that there is a good agreement between experimental and computational concentrations.

Abstract:The present invention belongs to the field of chemical technology. Ammonium bicarbonate, magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate are reacted with potassium chloride or potassium sulfate through double salt process to produce potassium carbonate and light magnesium carbonate. Compared with available double salt process producing potassium carbonate throught he reaction of carbon dioxide, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate and potassium chloride, the said method has low raw material cost, normal pressure condition, no "three waste" exhaust and simultaneous production of potassium carbonate and light magnesium carbonate. The produced potassium carbonate and light magnesium carbonate are used as important chemical raw material and its side products ammonium chloride and ammonium sulfateare farm fertilizer.

Abstract:【Objectives】Fewer researches have been done systemically on the adjustment of organic-inorganic recombination on the chemical K use efficiency. The study on the K efficiency of potassium sulphate after granulated with sugar residues in different ratios will be helpful to understand the beneficial mechanism of yield and profit increase of organic-inorganic compound fertilizer. 【Methods】Three kinds of organic-inorganic compound Kfertilizers were made via mixing sugar residues from monosodium glutamate factory with potassium sulfate in 3 ∶ 1,1 ∶ 1 and 1 ∶ 3( w / w) and granulated using pan granulator. A pot experiment was carried out using the three compound K fertilizers and potassium sulphate. Three total K input levels of K2 O 75,150 and 225 kg / hm2 were designed for each tested fertilizer, and the same input level of sugar residues without K was used as the corresponding control of the compound K fertilizer to eliminate the possible effect by organic materials. The crop yield,K uptake,K use efficiency were investigated. 【Results 】1) The maize grain yield was increased by11. 36% in average with application of compound K fertilizer. The maize grain yield was increased by 27. 75% and10. 77% at the low and high input rates of compound K fertilizer,but decreased by 3. 24% at medium input level,compared to potassium sulfate. 2) Application of compound K fertilizers could increase the K uptake of maize plant by 11. 43% in average. The K uptake of maize plant was increased by 31. 32% and 16. 11% at the low and high K inputs of compound K fertilizers,but decreased by 9. 11% at medium input,compared to potassium sulphate.3) The increase of K uptake by maize plant with the application of compound K fertilizers was 11. 92% higher than corresponding organic material treatments in average,which exceed the K uptake increase with potassium sulfate to the no K control. 4) The average K recovery of the three compound K fertilizers input rates was 17. 92 percentage points higher,compared to potassium sulfate. Under the same total K input,inorganic-K recoveries were increased at both the low and high rates,but not at medium rate. 【Conclusion 】The combination of sugar residue and potassium sulphate could effectively increase the K use efficiency in general. Comprehensive considering the yield and utilization of K,the relatively appropriate mix ratio of sugar residues and potassium sulphate should be in 1 ∶ 3( w /w),and the application rate of the compound K fertilizer should be less than normal chemical K fertilizer under the similar soil condition tested.

Abstract:The application model between application norm and yield was established through the 3414 experimental design of fertilizer efficiency in pepper.The results showed that nitrogen fertilizer was the main factor to affecting pepper yield and the order of affecting pepper yield was nitrogen potassiumphosphorus.The suitable application combination is 7.65～8.78 kg/667m2 of pure nitrogen,1.46～4.23 kg/667m2 of pure phosphorus and 7.12～9.04 kg/667m2 of pure potassium for high pepper yield planted in the soil with middle fertility in Suiyang county.

Abstract:Lop Nur salt Lake is the largest potassium brine deposits discovered in China. Its brine is a kind of magnesium sulfate sub-type brine and can be used to produce potassium sulfate fertilizer. In this paper, response to the feature of various potassium salts in brine evaporation and crystallization product and the great variety with evaporation temperature, the potassium sulfate production process was studied in detail. The mixed salts were pre-conversed and post-floated to form schoenite with the desirable potassium grade. In view of the natural conditions of severe water shortage in Lop Nur, carnallite from post-stage of brine evaporation was decomposed creatively by low-magnesium saturated brine to produce coarse potassium chloride. Eventually, conversion experiment was carried out to produce potassium sulfate by adding water into schoenite and coarse potassium chloride. Raw material ratio, water volume, conversion time, conversion temperature, stirring intensity and other conditions was tested and determined. Optimized product of superior quality for agricultural use, with 57.54% conversion rate and 43.27% potassium sulfate, was achieved.
Potassium Chloride-Modified Urea Phosphate with Response Surface Optimization and Its Application Effect on Maize in Saline-Alkali Soil

Abstract:Urea phosphate (UP) is an acidic compound fertilizer, which significantly improves the low efficiency of P application caused by high pH in saline-alkali soil. In this study, urea phosphate potassium (UPK) was prepared by adding potassium chloride (KCl) to modify urea phosphate (UP) and the optimal combination of the synthetic process parameters was obtained using the response surface methodology at a four-variable, three-level experiment Box-Behnken design. Parameters such as the reaction temperature, KCl molar number, reaction time, and concentration of phosphoric acid were included for optimization. The thermostability, crystal structure, and microscopic morphology of UPK were measured by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The fertilizer efficiency was validated in an experiment on maize grown in pots containing saline-alkali soil. The highest K2O content and UPK yield were obtained by using the following parameters: reaction time of 60 min, KCl of 0.32 mol, reaction temperature of 78 °C, and phosphoric acid concentration of 70%. Under optimal conditions, the predicted K2O value content and UPK yield were 3.51% and 69.8%, respectively. The experimental K2O content and UPK yield were 3.42 ± 0.35% and 67.58 ± 1.25%, respectively, which confirmed the strength of the predicted model. This model can be used as an effective tool to predict the K2O content and yield in UPK. Characterizations showed that KCl was uniformly distributed in UPK and its fluidity was effectively improved as observed in the angle-of-repose results. Compared to a conventional phosphorus fertilizer diammonium phosphate (DAP), the yield, total P use efficiency, soil available phosphorus content, and soil acid phosphatase activity of UPK increased significantly by 25.58, 174.5, 24.41, and 41.25%, respectively, and the soil pH on UPK treatments decreased by 3.98% significantly. In conclusion, this novel technology to modify UP by using KCl has an enormous potential for large-scale applications to satisfy the increasing demand for UP fertilizers on saline-alkali soil.
PREPARATION AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BINARY NITRATE SALTS

Abstract:Nine kinds of binary nitrate salts with different ratio of KNO 3 and NaNO 3 were prepared and the DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) curves were obtained by using STA409-PC manufactured by Netschi company from Germany. The measured results showed that the binary nitrate salts with the ratio of KNO 3 and NaNO 3 in 4:6, 6:4, 5:5 and 9:1 have eutectic and others have no eutectic. Then two prepared methods were used to prepare the binary nitrate salts. The DSC curves and TG curves of prepared molten salts were obtained and analyzed. The results showed that these two methods are both valid in making up eutectic mixed nitrate. The melting points of the binary nitrate salts prepared by the two methods are very close, In addition, there is no big change about its melting point and decomposition point after nitrate molten salts are heated repeatly. A simple method of binary nitrate salts preparation at large scale was proved to be valid by the experiments.
Optimal Technical Conditions of Preparing Potassium Pyrophosphate from C.cathayensts Exocarp

Abstract:In order to comprehensively develop and utilize C.cathayensis exocarp and provide reference for protection of ecological environment at growing districts of C.cathayensis,inorganic constituents in C.cathayensis exocarp were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry.The results showed that content of K element in C.cathayensis exocarp was high,and the results of wet digestive and dry digestive methods were same.So C.cathayensis exocarp could be used to synthesize potassium pyrophosphate.Some technical conditions of preparing pyrophosphate potassium were studied by chemical synthesis method.The optimal technical conditions were obtained by some single-factor experiments.The content of pyrophosphate potassium could be up to 97% under the optimal technical conditions,that was,the mass ratio of ash to phosphoric acid 2.24∶1-2.30∶1,pH 9.0 in neutralization reaction,and polymerization at 500 ℃ for 1.5 h.

Abstract:Bauxite residue poses an increasingly serious ecological safety problem in the alumina industry. A novel process for removing sodium in bauxite residue synergistic preparation of potassium-containing compound fertilizer raw materials was proposed to relieve pressure on the fertilizer industry. In this paper, synthetic sodalite and katoite were used to simulate the main mineral phases of bauxite residue to determine the suitable conditions for the method, and the transformation mechanism of the process was researched by analyzing the phase structure and microscopic morphology of the samples using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and specific surface area detection. The results show that the ideal reaction condition is 320 g/L K2O with solid reactants at 200 °C for 1 h. The separation rate of Na in the sodalite-katoite mixture reached 93.60%, with potassium aluminum silicate and katoite being the primary phases of the product, with a mesoporous structure and easy to be absorbed by crops. The bauxite residue transformation residue consisted of katoite and kaliophilite. With a total effective K2O, CaO, and SiO2 content of 38.22%, the Na2O content was 0.54%, meeting the requirements of compound fertilizer content on the market. The transformation mechanism is a dissolution-precipitation controlled sodium-potassium ion replacement reaction. This study provides theoretical guidance for the preparation of mineral fertilizer from bauxite residue and has practical production potential, opening up a new perspective for bauxite residue resource usage in the agricultural field.

[Effects of ammonium sulfate on the metabolism and K-feldspar weathering of two potassium-bearing mineral-solubilizing bacteria].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To determine the best conditions for Bacillus globisporus Q12 and Rhizobium sp. Q32 to produce organic acids and extracellular polysaccharides, respectively, and further elucidate the weathering mechanism of the two potassium-bearing mineral-solubilizing bacteria. METHODS Different contents (0-1.2 g/L) of (NH4)2SO4 were added to media to analyze the ability of the strains to produce organic acids and extracellular polysaccharides, and assess the ability of Q12, Q32 and their mixture to dissolve potassium feldspar. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was also used to observe the distribution of the bacterial cells on the surfaces of the feldspar and the mineral weathering. RESULTS Results show that Bacillus globisporus Q12 produced more organic acids, when the contents of (NH4)2SO4 were 0.6 g/L; Rhizobium sp. Q32 produced more extracellular polysaccharides, when there was no (NH4)2SO4 in the media; and the mixture of two strains produced more organic acids and extracellular polysaccharides, when the contents of (NH4)2SO4 were 0.3 g/L. Mineral dissolution experiment showed that Bacillus globisporus Q12, Rhizobium sp. Q32 and the mixture (Q12 + Q32) significantly dissolved the feldspar and released the elements from the mineral, of which the mixture of Q12 and Q32 had the best weathering ability than strain Q12 or Q32; SEM also indicated that the mixture of Q12 and Q32 had more ability to weather feldspar than each tested strain. CONCLUSION The contents of (NH4)2SO4 in the media could affect the growth and metabolites of the strains Q12 and Q32 and the mineral bioweathering, the mixture of strains Q12 and Q32 had the more potential of feldspar weathering through the combined action of organic acids and extracellular polysaccharides produced by strains Q12 and Q32.

[Effects of Different Proportions of Ammonium Sulfate Replacing Urea on Soil Nutrients and Rhizosphere Microbial Communities]

Abstract:In order to investigate the effects of ammonium sulfate, an industrial by-product, on soil nutrients and microbial community when applied in different proportions instead of using urea as nitrogen fertilizer, a pot corn experiment was conducted. A completely randomized block experimental design was used, with a total of five treatments:CK (no fertilization), U10S0 (100 % urea), U8S2 (80 % urea + 20 % ammonium sulfate), U6S4(60 % urea + 40 % ammonium sulfate), and U0S10 (100 % ammonium sulfate). The basic physical and chemical properties of soil and the dry weight of maize plants were determined by conventional methods, and microbial sequencing was performed using the Illumina NovaSeq platform. The experiment results showed that:① In each growth stage of maize, the pH of soil treated with fertilization (7.85-8.15) was decreased compared with that of CK (8.1-8.21), and the pH showed a decreasing trend with the increase in ammonium sulfate content. ② The soil available nitrogen content increased gradually with the increase in the ammonium sulfate ratio at each growth stage of maize. Compared with that in the CK and U10S0 treatments, the ratio in the U0S10 treatment increased 30.56 % to 63.68 % and 13.22 % to 38.43 %, respectively. The variation trend of organic carbon content was opposite to that of available nitrogen (U8S2 > U6S4 > U0S10), and the addition of ammonium sulfate was still higher than that of U10S0 at other growth stages except for the seedling stage. ③ The protease activity of all fertilization treatments was higher than that of the control, and the protease activity was gradually enhanced with the continuous growth of corn and the increase in the ammonium sulfate ratio. The protease activity of the U0S10 treatment was higher than that of the U10S0 treatment at each growth stage of corn, which increased by 10.54 %-100 %. Soil sucrase activity ranged from 0.04 to 0.24 mg·(g·24 h)-1, and those in the U0S10 treatments were significantly higher than those in the U10S0 and CK treatments at all growth stages, increasing by 20.32 % to 99.16 % and 24.31 % to 79.33 %, respectively. ④ The species abundance of bacteria and fungi in maize rhizosphere under all fertilization treatments were lower than those under the CK treatment, followed by those under the U10S0 treatment. The species diversity trend of the bacterial community in the three treatments with ammonium sulfate replacing urea were U8S2 > U0S10 > U6S4, and that of fungi were U6S4 > U8S2 > U0S10. ⑤ The maize dry weight of the U10S0 treatment and U0S10 treatment was the highest, which was 39.47 % and 36.16 % higher than that of the CK treatment, respectively, but the difference was not significant. The Pearson model showed that the species abundance and diversity of soil rhizosphere fungi and bacteria were affected by relevant environmental variables, among which pH value and soil available nitrogen content were the most important factors affecting microbial diversity. In conclusion, when corn planting in calcareous brown soil, replacing urea with a certain proportion of ammonium sulfate can improve soil nutrients more than urea alone, which affects the growth and rhizosphere microbial community of corn to a certain extent and has a greater yield.
Review on K-Feldspar Mineral Processing for Extracting Metallic Potassium as a Fertilizer Resource

Abstract:The K-feldspar mineral is an insoluble potassium resource with a high potassium content and the most extensive and abundant reserves. To address the insufficient supply of soluble potassium fertilizers in China, the application of appropriate processing methods to extract potassium from K-feldspar and transform it into a soluble potassium fertilizer is of great significance. To date, various techniques have been developed to extract potassium from K-feldspar and produce a soluble potassium fertilizer. This review summarizes the main methods, i.e., the hydrothermal, high-temperature pyrolysis, microbial decomposition, and low-temperature methods, for potassium extraction from K-feldspar. The mechanisms, efficiencies, impact parameters, and research progress of each potassium extraction method are comprehensively discussed. This study also compares the merits and drawbacks of the individual methods in terms of potassium extraction efficiency and practical operating conditions. The species of additives, reaction temperature, reaction time, particle size of K-feldspar, and dosage of additives significantly affected the potassium extraction efficiency. Moreover, the combination of different methods was very effective in improving the potassium extraction efficiency. This review elaborates the research prospects and potential strategies for the efficient utilization of the K-feldspar mineral as a fertilizer resource.
