Abstract:In recent years,Chinese universities made a big step in construction of Web-based courses.However,such problems as gap between theory and practice were quite obvious in Chinese practice of Web-based course design.This study aims to use a case study to explore the key factors that characterize high quality Web-based course.The selected course,named <Advanced Methods in Distance Education>,was taught by Dr.Dooley,who is from Texas A&M University.Characteristic analysis of the course found that such key aspects as management platform,instructional design,interaction design,performance assessment,and learning support contribute to its success.

Abstract:The framework of a cost decision support system which is called Product Life Cycle Cost-Decision Support System(PLCC-DSS), is presented based on the analysis of current product cost study. The framework can be divided into three modules which includes the life-cycle cost modeling module of product, life-cycle cost estimationanalysis module and cost reduction module. The life-cycle processes of product and the three modules are integrated based on the framework. Then the key techniques of the framework and the top-down information inheritance of each module are also discussed.

Abstract:Web based learning enables more students to have a chance to access the distance learning resources. However, the early experience of using this new learning method in China exposes a few problems, among which the low quality video service is a serious one. This is caused by the difficulty to transfer high quality real-time video on the Internet because of the basic design of the Internet. In this paper, we present a CATV and Internet combined framework to tackle such problems. The framework allows students not only to have a high quality real-time video service, but also to interact with teachers via an interactive question-and-answer system. The main virtue of the framework is that it enables students to access distance learning anytime anywhere with both QoS guarantee and interactive capability. A prototype system based on this framework has already implemented and deployed for more than a year, and a full scale system will be put into running in the near future.

Abstract:Web-based assistant teaching system is a virtual teaching environment built by the use of computer and network technology. It completes the system with the uses of B/S three-tier architecture, ASP.NET technology and SQL Server as its background database. Base on requirements analysis in network teaching of Cangzhou medical college, it designs the access control of the system with the user-task-role ideology. The system functions into administrator space, teacher space, student space, and teaching interactive space. This paper states the functions in detail.

Abstract:MOOCs (massive open online courses) has swept the university education in the world, and it also shows the new challenges and opportunity for the traditional teaching model. Our paper gives a concept about MOOCs, and a summary about the development of home and abroad. We also analyze the four MOOCs' features: individuation, learning autonomy, course openness and teaching feedback degree, build the four-dimensional evaluation model for the traditional teaching model according to these features. Subjective questionnaire and quadrilateral area of law and quartile method are used to respectively and synthetically evaluate the courses on the traditional teaching model. This evaluation mainly is used to judge whether MOOCs is working in those courses, can help to further explore potential problems and limitations on their teaching mode, and provide reference and guidance for the development of MOOCs.

Abstract:Web based learning enables more students to have access to the distance-learning environment and provides students and teachers with unprecedented flexibility and convenience. However, the early experience of using this new learning means in China exposes a few problems. Among others, teachers accustomed to traditional teaching methods often find it difficult to put their courses online and some students, especially the adult students, find themselves overloaded with too much information. In this paper, we present an open framework to solve these two problems. This framework allows students to interact with an automated question answering system to get their answers. It enables teachers to analyze students learning patterns and organize the webbased contents efficiently. The framework is intelligent due to the data mining and case-based reasoning features, and user-friendly because of its personalized services to both teachers and students.

Abstract:In a contemporary Chinese full time college education, it is an emerging need to know how to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the network-based courses which have played a more and more important role in assisting classroom instruction. In this study, an evaluation framework for assessing network assisted courses is proposed based on the particular functions of the THEOL learning management system, which has been used in more than two hundred universities in China. This evaluation framework has four features: 1) The evaluating approaches include questionnaire surveys of experts and students, and computer-generated quantitative reviews; 2) the data sources include questionnaires, documents and log files which are automatically generated on the learning system in instructional activities; 3) the audiences could be administrators, instructors and students relevant to the online courses and the designers of the learning system as well; 4) The evaluation results include not only the summative report which indicates quality and effectiveness of the courses for administrators but also the formative analysis provided to the instructors.

Abstract:This paper presents a framework for design of on-line courses and collaborative learning based on Web technologies. It provides the following features: construction of structured learning materials in a distributed environment; personalization of course contents in the run-time that adapts to the progress of individual students; it can supply relevant Web resources to the students by analyzing the learning history dynamically; students in a group could exchange their learning experiences and discover relevant knowledge via the communication channels provided by the framework. The proposed techniques could be deployed to a variety of on-line computer-assisted modules to improve the effectiveness of Web-based E-learning.

Abstract:Cost-benefit analysis and evaluation of education informatization is a complex system engineering,whose core work lies in clarifying key factors for restricting construction cost and application benefit of education informatization.Education informatization cost consists of three factors,namely,information construction cost of teaching and scientific research,information infrastructure costs and information security system cost.Benefit index is composed of teaching benefit,scientific research benefit and management benefit.According to the above evaluation system,a cost-benefit analysis of education informatization has been made in 19 colleges and universities in Zhejiang province.The findings are as follows:the key factors influencing education informatization cost include infrastructures,information resources,computer equipments,personnel,network and training funds;and the key factors influencing education benefit include the quality of scientific research personnel,multimedia network utilization,informatization management application,scientific application of information resources,information network popularization and multimedia teaching application;there are significant correlations between cost and benefit of education informatization in these colleges and universities;the key factors further concretize the cost-benefit indicators,which will actively guide the practice of performance evaluation of education informatization.

Abstract:The advancement of information technology has had an enormous impact on design practice and education, therefore, it is crucial to teach and train design students new design methodologies and skills. The online learning environment (OLE) is pivotal in providing the functions and tools for new types of learning and teaching through information technology. This paper demonstrates a framework for the development of online design learning environment (ODLE). First, by literature review, questionnaires, and online observation, important information was collected and analyzed. Key issues relevant to OLE were then discussed with design teachers and students. Finally, a framework of online design learning environment was proposed. In the framework, four basic components are integrated with the online design learning environment: Course, Instructor, Learner, and Internet. The relationships between these components and the ODLE were further identified as Delivery, Organization, Process, and Access respectively. Based on the framework, the ODLE was prototyped with a three-level platform: Community, Classroom, and Studio. Community provides the site users an open space to exchange opinions about design. Classroom provides various asynchronous design courses. Studio provides synchronous tools for communication and discussion in design studio activities. At the end, the possible improvement of the proposed ODLE framework and its prototype was further discussed.

Abstract:With regard to the implementation of Blended Learning (BL) in higher education, not much is known about the institution-wide participation status by the teacher, and ways to quantitatively assess such participation. This research first developed a framework for quantitatively assessing teachers' online participation in BL, and then evaluated it with data produced by 7272 teachers in 15,128 BL courses in six universities across China. This evaluation adopted a mixed methods design to investigate the intensity, regularity and interactivity of these teachers' online participation in BL. Three key findings emerged: 1) the framework effectively assessed the degrees and features of teachers' online participation in BL implementation, 2) these results advanced our understanding of BL adoption stages, and 3) the proposed framework proved to be technically adequate in assessing teachers' online participation in BL at an institutional level. Using this framework, institutions could gain a fuller picture of their BL implementation so as to refine their strategies and advance their BL agenda.

Abstract:This paper mainly focuses on establishing a framework for BIM-based Construction Cost Estimating (CCE) software based on Chinese standards. The characteristics of the existing major CCE software in China and the key requirements of the next generation CCE software were identified based on investigations and interviews. Furthermore, the characteristics of major BIM-based CCE software of foreign vendors were reviewed and their feasibility to be used in China was analyzed. The framework of BIM-based CCE software subject to Chinese standards was proposed and corresponding functions were systematically analyzed. The framework laid a solid foundation for developing the next generation CCE software.

Abstract:Digitalization is strongly impacting the traditional social system and education system at an unprecedented speed and momentum. The process of educational digital transformation is not a simple linear combination, but a series of complex behaviors such as the bifurcation, the mutation and the self-organization. This is a complicated system evolution process. Combined with the current situation of university assets management and the responsibilities of universities, we propose a framework for the construction of digital campus and the AHP is used to construct the digital evaluation index framework of university assets, including the asset status, the cost-effectiveness, the teaching effect, the scientific research ability and the network security management, to determine the weight, and to solve the problem that qualitative analysis and quantitative evaluation are difficult to combine. The results of index weights proves that it provides a set of feasible models and methods for constantly improving the asset management decision-making and digital development and evaluation of assets in universities.

Abstract:Emerging concerns about quality of e-learning products and services animated a project in many countries to establish and implement quality assurance. The paper introduces the international standard of quality management, assurance and metrics for information technology learning, education, and training which is put forward by technical committee ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36. With the implementation of tuition-free normal college studentspsila education in Huazhong Normal University, this paper describes how to use the quality assurance standard to establish a learning management platform for tuition-free normal college students in Huazhong Normal University. According to Reference Framework for Quality Descriptions (RFDQ) of the quality assurance standard, needs analysis and framework analysis of the platform are conducted by way of interview and investigation, and subsequently detailed functional design of the platform is implemented. Finally, the author explores the quality assurance of the platform.

Abstract:This work is made in the hope of providing relevant information that would be useful for future developers of web courses. With hands-on experience in implementing IP&A-Web, an online course system for "Image Processing and Analysis", the authors have commented on a number of current developmental tools for web course. The results helped to make each implementation of demonstrating components in IP&A-Web falling into one of three categories: Flash Movies, Java Applets and ActiveX Controls. An evaluation study weighing the pros and cons of these three kinds of components, in terms of computational power and runtime flexibility as well as access security and stability, within IP&A-Web is carried out. Finally, the performance of each category is also compared in a quantitative manner using developed course materials.
