Flexible Design Modeling Methodology for MEMS Based on Petri Net

Abstract:Micro-scale effect and multi-field coupling are characteristics of the design of micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS). However, the current macroscopic structure-oriented CAD systems have not been able to meet the increasing requirements for the design in micrometer scale. Therefore, a flexible design modeling methodology for MEMS based on Petri net is put forward. Firstly, the highly cohesive and low coupling modules are obtained via refining and abstracting the existing CAD systems on the basis of analyzing the design characteristics, framework and process of MEMS. Secondly, the flexible design modeling framework for MEMS based on Petri net is built by associating the Petri net with the modules of the design system. Then, the forward-position places and weighted directed arcs are added to regulate the maximum and minimum tokens of the places to control the number of design flow. Afterwards, the control places are added to format control loops and make concurrent transitions occur orderly to solve the conflicts in concurrent design. Finally, the modules are controlled to operate with the state space results of Petri net. The multiple relationships between the complex design flows are then realized. An independent prototype system using ACIS as geometry modeling kernel has been developed to validate the proposed method with the design of capacitive 3D silicon micro comb drive. The test results proved that the present design methods are extended from top-down, bottom-up and hybrid to flexible design based on Petri net. The product design is no longer restricted to fixed process. It has important significance to improve efficiency and quality of the design of MEMS.

Abstract:Computer aided design (CAD) of Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) is a significant foundation for commercialization of MEMS. The present situation of MEMS CAD and its characteristics are described in the paper. A typical system architecture of the MEMS CAD is presented, together with levels of MEMS's modeling and simulation. Emphasis is placed on problems with MEMS CAD, such as coupled field analysis and generation of macro-models.

Abstract:To enable designers to construct geometric models of MEMS devices in a straightforward environment and get mask and process flow automatically, a 3D MEMS CAD system for surface micromachined devices is proposed based on traditional design software—SolidWorks. With Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) of SolidWorks, component modules and databases of the system are developed with Visual Basic, such as geometric model design module, mask and process flow generation module, process simulation module, 3D feature database and material database. Their development method is discussed in this paper. A practical example shows that surface micromachined devices can be designed efficiently in the system without tedious fabrication process.

Abstract:Nowadays, we always design the MEMS system with the traditional way (design rarr make rarr sample rarr test rarr optimize design). In this way, we have to waste much more time and money on the design of MEMS. Developing a new MEMS CAD can solve the problem in a suit way. This paper will research a very important module in the MEMS CAD, the display technology. You will see plenty of excellent functions with using the VR (Virtual Reality) display technology .We used OpenGL/Openlnventor and Visual C++ to design the display module. The following tips are the designing thought. 1. Create a graphic manipulate reading context, and start it. 2. Initialization, setting the OpenGL's switch. 3.Setting the way to find view, and the viewport size. 4. The main function, using the OpenGL to make the mathematics depict. 5. If needed, we can add some other function, for example , color, illumination, and so on.

Abstract:The Computer Aided Design (CAD) and simulation of micro electro mechanical systems is summarized and the primary contents and key problems with the MEMS simulation are also discussed. Various simulating systems are classified according their construction and application range. Combined with the instances of electrostatic micromotor and micro/nano tweezers, the modularized structure of CAD system as well as the establishment and linking with CAD system of the material database of MEMS is analyzed. The presented approach can be extended to the design and simulation of microsensors and microactuators.

Abstract:In the embedded environment, the GUI which is born out of the desktop ones such as Windows CE often has some shortage. We put forward the idea of the single-window GUI after analyzing the characteristic of the embedded system. The single-window GUI is able to lower the requirement of the hardware and improve the responding speed markedly. Then, the paper introduces a constructing technic of GUI page based on the component and gives an example of PDA simulator.

Abstract:In this paper, we design a microencapsulated electronic ink display, which applys the static driving method. It's composed of display controller and matrix display, these two parts are connected by several signals, such as clock and data. The matrix display could receive display data from display controller and transfer them to drivers to realize the display of characters or graphics. According to the experiment result, the overall display performance is good.

Abstract:Object-oriented technology is used to study the CAD/CAM system of super CNC glass carve center in this paper. Based on a successful development of the CAD/CAM system on the OS of WINDOWS, Modular organization in the CAD/CAM system and the detail process of figure forming are presented. It has been proved that the developed CAD system of glass carve robot that is accurate and effectively , and is very successful by a great deal of practice.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of control, measurement and movement virtual display of moving mass electromechanical actuator(MMEA), the virtual testing system of MMEA was developed based on the PC-DAQ architecture and the software platform of LabVIEW, and the comprehensive test task such as drive control of MMEA, tests of kinematic parameter, measurement of centroid position and virtual display of movement could be accomplished. The system could solve the alignment for acquisition time between multiple measurement channels in different DAQ cards, then on this basis, the researches were focused on the dynamic 3D virtual display by the LabVIEW, and the virtual display of MMEA were realized by the method of calling DLL and the method of 3D graph drawing controls. Considering the collaboration with the virtual testing system, including the hardware drive, the measurement software of data acquisition, and the 3D graph drawing controls method was selected, which could obtained the synchronization measurement, control and display. The system can measure dynamic centroid position and kinematic position of movable mass block while controlling the MMEA, and the interface of 3D virtual display has realistic effect and motion smooth, which can solve the problem of display and playback about MMEA in the closed shell.

Abstract:To improve straightforwardness and reduce process complexity of micro-electro-me- chanical systems(MEMS)design,a new design scheme is proposed for surface micromachined device.Based on the established three-dimensional features,the solid geometric models of MEMS devices were constructed efficiently with SolidWorks.Simultaneously,the mask layouts and process flow were automatically generated with the developed program based on the application programming interfaces of SolidWorks.A practical example shows that this method enables to design MEMS geometric models efficiently in a straightforward environment without tedious fab- rication process.And SolidWorks serving as the basic development platform greatly reduces com- plexity of developing MEMS CAD tools.

Abstract:Based on the researches of the design processes and rules of MEMS, an integrated design methodology for MEMS was proposed. The methodology focused on the optimum design of MEMS. On the basis of the integrated design methodology, two key techniques (3D reconstruction of layouts and construction of macro-model) were deeply studied in order to realize the integrated design environment for MEMS. The paper helps the formalization of MEMS CAD software supporting the integrated design methodology for MEMS.

Abstract:Current MEMS design methods do not fulfill the needs of emerging complex MEMS devices. In this paper, a systematic direct solid modeling approach for surface micromachined MEMS design is proposed. In this approach, practical model of a surface micromachined MEMS device, designed in a traditional CAD environment, is simplified firstly; after simplification, masks and process sequences are generated through solid-based mask synthesis; then local variation is used to refining the 3D layer model; finally masks and process sequences are verified in rough simulation and accurate simulation. The approach aims at enabling designers to focus on creative design activity in an intuitive mode.
