Abstract:The environment pollution caused by phosphating pretreatment for coating and restrict measures and new total phosphorus discharge standards promulgated by various countries were reviewed.An introduction is given of the advantages and disadvantages of three new non-phosphorus coating pretreatment processes as alternatives to phosphating,including fluorozirconate (zirconia) pretreatment,silane coupling pretreatment and surface coordination compound film pretreatment on the surface of steel and iron.A detailed discussion is made of the characteristics,process flow,solution compositions,operating conditions as well as solution maintenance of three surface coordination compound film pretreatment processes by use of FPC405 antirust sealing agent prior to electrophoretic coating of iron and steel,FPC406 antirust sealing agent prior to painting of iron and steel,and FPC408 antirust sealing agent prior to powder coating of iron and steel.The three new processes have been used in many factories in China and showed very good results.

Abstract:Textile wastewaters from alkali reduction, printing and dyeing operations are usually highly basic, turbid and have many COD and color constituents present in high concentrations; therefore, effective pretreatment is required to make them biotreatable. Direct acidification of one such wastewater failed because it resulted in heavy production of colloidal products. Coagulation and flocculation, using 800~1 500 mg/L of MgSO_ 4 and 2 mg/L of a high molecular weight organic flocculant HPAM, and followed by acidification to a pH of <3.0, achieved excellent pretreatment performance; COD, color intensity and turbidity of the wastewater sample were reduced by 92%, 97%, and nearly 100%, respectively.

Abstract:This work aimed at understanding the role of silane pretreatment layer in an organic coating system. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, the anticorrosion performance and interfacial property of silane-pretreated epoxy coatings were studied. The results showed that pretreatment with functional 3-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) strongly improves the adhesion of epoxy-coated AA2024-T3 aluminum alloy due to the high interfacial compatibility between silane and epoxy coatings and that pretreatment with nonfunctional bis-1,2-[triethoxysilyl]ethane (BTSE) remarkably reduces the adhesion to the alloy because of low compatibility. Nevertheless, the BTSE film provides higher resistance to corrosion than the GPTMS-pretreated coating system, because the former is more hydrophobic and thicker.
Pretreatment of Coking Wastewater by Bimetal Micro-Electrolysis

Abstract:The bimetal micro-electrolysis was applied for coking wastewater pretreatment.The results indicated that the biodegradability could be improved by Fe-Ni,Fe-Cu,Fe-Zn,Fe-Sn,Fe-C,Al-Cu and Al-C electrolysis systems under acidic and alkaline conditions.Fe-Cu was the optimum system and the B/C of effluent was 0.54.The efficiency of Fe-Cu could be improved by combined with hydrogen peroxide oxidation,activated carbon,modified zeolite or microwave technique.Under the appropriate conditions of 5∶0.50of mass ratio of Fe/ modified zeolite,5∶1.25of mass ratio of Fe/Cu,4.0of initial pH value,60min of hydraulic reaction time,FeCu combined with modified zeolite was the most effective method.The highest removal rate of COD and phenol were 43.99% and 47.96%,respectively.GC-MS Analysis indicated that 21kinds of organic compounds were completely removed by the pretreatment.

Abstract:Treatment of cathodic electrocoating wastewater by coagulation and microfiltration with zirconia membrane(mean pore size of 0.2 μm) was studied in this paper.The effects of operating parameters,such as pH on the COD removal,transmembrane pressure,crossflow velocity on the membrane flux were investigated.The method for membrane cleaning and suitable operating parameters were proposed.The results indicated that the removal of COD was 63% at pH of 6.7 and with Lime as coagulant,and followed by microfiltration the removal of COD increased to 85%.At a cross flow velocity of 4.2 m/s,trans-membrane pressure of 0.10 MPa,and the steady flux is about 250 L/(m~2·h).The results of filtration tests showed that the membrane fouling decreased and the permeate flux and permeate quality increased with coagulation as pretreatment.The permeate obtained from coagulation and micro-filtration can be used as rinsing water in electrocoating process or discharge.The flux recovered to 80% of the initial value after the cleaning of the membrane.

Abstract:The copperized iron internal electrolysis system was used for the pretreatment of coking wastewater.The removal rate of COD can reach 66.07%,higher than traditional Fe-C system and Fe-Cu system.The optimum conditions were:pH=4.0,time of copperization 2.0 min,dose of copperized iron 500 g/L and treatment time 40 min.The COD removal rate of the effluent of continuous flow experiment was 40%～50%,without the tickler of agglomeration.

Abstract:By using melamine and cationic polyacrylamide as the main raw materials,paint detackifier A and polycoagulant B to treat overspary paint booth water is prepared.Its optimum formulation and preparation process conditions are determined and also the mechanisms of polycoagulant are discussed.In the study,the optimal conditions for paint detackifier A of preparation are as follows: 1∶2 of melamine/formaldehyde molar ratio;temperature of all two steps should be 70 ℃;hydroxymethylation stage taking place under 8-9 of pH value for 30 mins;the low-pH condensation stage under 3 of pH value for 3hs.The polycoagulant B is prepared by 0.12% of modifier modified cationic polyacrylamide.It could reachthe optimum flocculation effect when the proportion of the dosage of A and B is 1∶2.The removal rate of the lacquer in wastewater reaches 97.5%,the cost of polycoagulant is lower and so it shows obvious economic benefits and environmental benefits.

Abstract:Cathodic plasma electrolytic treatment (CPET) is an emerging surface modification and coating preparation technology. By utilizing plasma discharge induced through electrolysis and the cooling impact of electrolyte, metal cleaning, saturation, and coating preparation are efficiently achieved. In this review, the principle, application, and development of the CPET process are briefly summarized based on the past literature. Detailed insights are provided into the influence of electrolyte parameters (pH, metal salt concentration, and temperature), electrical parameters (voltage, duty cycle, and frequency), and process parameters (electrode area ratio, material, roughness, and deposition time) on plasma discharge and coating formation for metal coatings. The interaction mechanism between plasma and material surfaces is also investigated. Recommendations and future research avenues are suggested to propel CPET and its practical implementations. This review is expected to provide assistance and inspiration for researchers engaged in CPET.

Abstract:By using talc powder and diatomite as refractory materials,bentonite of natrium and CMC as compound deflocculant and silical sol-PMA as compound bonding agent,based on the orthogonal testing,the water-based coating for EPC aluminum castings with optimized composition was developed.The performance of the coating was examined.Practical application reveals the features of acceptable performance and low cost.

Abstract:The technical and economical feasibility of utilizing coagulation and sedimentation as a pretreatment process in the soil treatment system was investigated with productive experiments.The results show that coagulation and sedimentation reduce contamination loads effectively,ensuring the outlet water quality,in which the removal rates of COD,SS,TP are 55.6%,82.8% and 56.5% respectively.The hydraulic load of the soil treatment system increases enormously to as much as 2.25 m/d in experimental conditions,which greatly decreases the area of the constructed rapid infiltration system.The coagulation-sedimentation process and constructed rapid infiltration process complement each other,forming an ideal combination system.

Abstract:Pretreatment on substrate was extremely important as a result of the bond strength of mechanical occlusion between coating and substrate.The technical characteristics of currently and widely used grit blasting were reviewed,and the two main drawbacks including grit embedment and damage to substrate for the grit blasting process were pointed out.The effects of grit blasting on high temperature single crystal substrate and ultra high strength steel were discussed.Free grit blasting treatment was recommended for the deposition of HVOF WC coating on relatively soft substrate.Meanwhile,the current research focus on other pretreatment processes on substrate,including high pressure water jet,mechanical roughening and laser treatment was introduced.The principle of the process,process characteristics and their applications in the pretreatment of thermal spray process were emphasized in the introductions to these processes.
