Abstract:This paper applies the BLT equation into the calculation of transient response of the transmission line. The MTL we considered is a serial transmission line. Especially we did some analysis of transient response of MTL with discontinuous characteristic impedance.

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of transient response of uniform transmission line excited by Lumped-source,the model of transmission line and finite-difference time-domain(FDTD)was investigated.After the analysis of circuit theory and computational mathematics and program design,a simple and quick and effective numerical solution in time domain was established.The partial differential equation group dispersed with the theory of FDTD solution.A method was presented to a bran-new differential formation.Furthermore boundary conditions were found to basis lumped equivalent circuit mode at boundary and constraints between voltage and current.Computing and programming to transmission line transient with different conditions of boundary and two line coupling or even more complicated loading were carried out,simulation waveforms were gotten.By comparing the waveforms with the simulated waveforms obtained through the EMTP-ATP simulation software,the all results were tested.The results indicate that the analysis provides a simple and feasible method for solving the transient response of uniform transmission line.

Abstract:The voltage and current responses induced on a multi-conductor transmission lines (MTL) network with some nonlinear devices are studied in this paper, which is placed in a cabin with thin slots on its wall. The mathematical treatment is based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method combined with telegraph equations and modified nodal analysis (MNA) method. The accuracy of our developed algorithm is checked, with good agreement obtained by comparing some results with those obtained by CST MWS studio. However, it should be noted that CST cannot simulate the case of MTL loaded with arbitrary nonlinear devices. Further, transient analysis of an external field coupled into a cabin is performed, with some inner EMI effects characterized accurately.

Abstract:We Transmission line circuit model,telegraph equations(a hyperbolic partial differential equations),is the starting point of analyzing transmission lines transient process.A simple and quick and effective numerical solution in time domain has been deduced by the aid of circuit theory and computational mathematics and program design.The partial differential equation group has been discretized with the theory of FDTD solution,therefore a bran-new differential computation formation has been obtained.Furthermore,boundary conditions of the basic lumped equivalent circuit mode have been found according to constraints between voltage and current at the ends of lines.Finally voltage and current waveforms has been obtained by simulation.Matlab is used for the simulation of the transient of transmission line under various boundary conditions,various coupling conditions.Simulation results from Matlab are compared with waveforms by the EMTP-ATP simulation software,the efficient of the method is proved.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel time-domain integration method for transient analysis of nonuniform multiconductor transmission lines (MTLs). It can solve the time response of various kinds of transmission lines with arbitrary coupling status. The spatial discretization in this method is the same as the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm. However, in order to eliminate the Courant-Friedrich-Levy condition constraint, a precise time-step integration method is utilized in time-domain calculation. It gives an analytical solution in the time domain for the spatial discretized Telegrapher's equations with linear boundary conditions. Large time steps can be adopted in the integration process to achieve accurate results efficiently. In the analysis of transmission lines with frequency-dependent parameters, a passive equivalent model is introduced, which leads to the similar semidiscrete model as that for the frequency-independent case. In addition, a rigorous proof of the passivity of the model is provided. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and stability of the proposed method.
Equilibrium analysis and comparison for general CTMs and LCTMs

Abstract:In this paper, we study the equilibriums of the general Cell transmission models (CTM) and the general Lagged Cell transmission models (LCTM). Theoretical analyses show that different CTMs and LCTMs converge to a two-segment almost piecewise-linear equilibrium state with similar shapes, although the variety of the traffic flow-density relationships (fundamental diagram, FD) and the existence of the lagged effect lead to different patterns of convergence trajectories and speeds. These results indicate the usefulness of the CTMs and LTCMs in practice, especially when we are interested on the formations and dissipations of traffic congestions.

Abstract:In this paper, we presented a new time domain method to analyze the transient response of transmission lines. This method first discretizes telegraph equations in domain time by difference, then establishes a first order differential equation with respect to space, next using the precise integration method to receive the transient response of the transmission lines. This is a semi analytic numerical method in domain time. This method has advantages of simple, accurate and efficient which can be used to analyze the transient response of the lossy transmission lines with nonlinear load efficiently. It also can be used to analyze transient response of power transmission lines and detect the fault location.

Abstract:A semi-analytical method in time domain is presented for analysis of the transient response of nonuniform transmission lines. In this method, the telegraph equations in time domain is differenced in space domain first, and is transformed into a set of first-order differential equations of voltage and current with respect to time. By integrating these differential equations with respect to time, and precise computation, the solution of these differential equations can be obtained. This method can solve the transient response of various kinds of transmission lines with arbitrary terminal networks. Particularly, it can analyze the nonuniform lines with initial conditions, for which there is no existing effective method to analyze the time response so far. The results obtained with this method are stable and accurate. Two examples are given to illustrate the application of this method.

Abstract:A hybrid method, based on new FDTD (2, 4) compatible conformal technique, telegraph equations and modified nodal analysis (MNA) method, is presented for transient analysis of a multi-conductor transmission line (MTL) network loaded with some active devices. The MTL network is located in a room with curved wall and is illuminated by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). The accuracy of our developed algorithm is verified with good agreement achieved by comparing some results with those obtained by the CST MWS studio. However, it should be emphasized that our proposed hybrid method has stronger capability in handling MTLs loaded with arbitrary active devices than that of commercial software. The transient analysis of an external field coupled into a cabin is performed, with some inner EMI effects characterized accurately.

Abstract:A novel method based on NILT is presented to analyze the sensitivity of transient response of the networks containing transmission lines.In this method,transmission lines,circuit and its components are taken into account as a whole.According to the topology of the transmission lines in the circuit,the sensitivity of transient response of the circuit can be derived by solving the transient response of the circuit and the partial derivative equation of the ABCD matrix of the transmission lines with respect to the parameters of the circuit.By conducting a series expansion of the parameter matrix,the problem can be simplified dramatically.Without decoupling calculation of the coupled transmission lines,this method is simple and accurate.The example given shows the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:This paper proposes an efficient way to calculate the transient electromagnetic field coupling to overhead multiconductor transmission lines (MTLs) in the time domain based on the Gauss-Seidel iterative algorithm analytically. This method is performed in the time domain directly. Thus, the case that transient electromagnetic field coupling to MTLs terminated by nonlinear load can be analyzed conveniently. In this method, the cross-coupling between the conductors is represented by the equivalent distributed voltage and current sources along every lines. Then, the analytical expressions of the voltage and current response along MTLs are derived iteratively in time domain based on the Gauss-Seidel iterative algorithm. The proposed method is validated by several numerical examples, which demonstrate that the proposed approach could handle the case that MTLs terminated by the linear load and the case that MTLs terminated by the nonlinear load with the acceptable computational accuracy. The proposed method exhibits a higher convergence rate than the previous Jacobi iterative method, especially for the case where the MTLs have a high ratio of length to wavelength and the case in which the MTLs have a high coupling factor. Additionally, due to the analytical methodology that the proposed method adopts, the computational accuracy is not affected by the simulation time step. Therefore, the proposed approach is very efficient for modeling of the transient electromagnetic field coupling to long overhead multiconductor transmission lines.

Abstract:A new time domain method, Runge-kutta iteration based on precise integration, is presented to analyze the transient response of coupled transmission lines. It is a numerical method. By discreting the telegraph equations in space, a first order differential equation respect to time is obtained, then Runge-Kutta iteration instead of precise integration is applied to solve the equation. This method can avoid large amount of matrix calculation and improve the analysis efficiency of coupled transmission lines.

Abstract:This paper employs the extended BLT equation to analyze the terminal response of lossy microstrip line illuminated by a plane wave. The paper yields the equivalent transmission line model of microstrip line by analyzing its distribution parameters. By treating the electromagnetic field coupling path as “tube” and considering coupled and scattered components of microstrip line, the paper advances original BLT equation to the extension one. Then, by employing the extended BLT equation, the solution to terminal response of lossy microstrip line illuminated by a plane wave is obtained. The results of numerical simulations demonstrate the validity of this technique.

Abstract:Since the sensitivity of non-uniform coupled transmission lines is hard to analyse, a precise integrated way in time domain is put forward in this paper. The coupled transmission lines equation of telegrapher in time domain is discretized as well as differenced in spatial domain by the means. Non-uniform couple transmission lines sensitivity's first order is established. Thus the analysis of transient response' sensitivity becomes to solve the differential first-order equation. The paper's approach could be used in all kinds of non-uniform and uniform transmission loads and lines. Computed results indicate that the proposed method is reliability and validity.

Abstract:Since the sensitivity of nonuniform coupled transmission lines with nonlinear loads is hard to analyze,a new method based on fast Fourier transform is proposed.Nonuniform transmission matrices expressed by infinite series form are derived by applying the piecewise decomposition technique.Based on the Thevenin's transmission equivalent network,the number of nonlinear equations of transient response is reduced,and the convergence performance is improved.The sensitivity of the transient response of transmission lines is finally obtained by employing the inverse fast Fourier transform.The proposed method can analyze all kinds of transmission lines and avoid complicated decoupled operations.Experimental results show that when the numbers of subsections are the same,the speed of the proposed method is faster than that of the perturbation method;and that the computing speed is increased by above 37% when the number of the subsections is more than 16.

Abstract:Since the sensitivity analysis method for time domain response of transmission lines based on the frequency domain method is difficult to handle with the sensitivity problem of transient response of transmission lines, a novel method based on the precise computation method is described for the sensitivity analysis for time domain response of transmission lines in this paper. By the difference divergence of space of telegraph equations in time domain to construct the first-order differential equation of transient response of transmission lines and sensitivity of transient response of transmission lines to time, it uses precise integration method to analyze the sensitivity of response in time domain directly. It's a semi-analytical method in time domain which is simple, accurate and stable. It can handle with the sensitivity of time domain response of transmission lines with arbitrary terminal loads, boundary conditions and transmitted signals. Finally, the application example proves the correctness of method in this paper.

Abstract:This paper presents a precise time-step integration method for transient analysis of lossy nonuniform transmission lines. The spatial discretization in this method is the same to the finite difference time domain (FDTD) algorithm. However, in order to eliminate the Courant condition constraint, the precise integration method is utilized in the time-domain calculation. It gives quasi-exact solutions in time domain for the spatial discretized Telegrapher's equations. Since the exponential matrix is calculated precisely, large time step can be adopted in the integration process to achieve accurate results efficiently. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the accuracy and stability of the proposed method.
Calculation of the transient response of lossless transmission lines

Abstract:We present an analytical calculation of the transient response of ideal (i.e. lossless) transmission lines. The calculation presented considers a length of transmission line connected to a signal generator with output impedance $Z_\mathrm{g}$ and terminated with a load impedance $Z_\mathrm{L}$. The approach taken is to analyze a circuit model of the system in the complex-frequency or $s$-domain and then apply an inverse Laplace transform to recover the time-domain response. We consider both rectangular pulses and voltage steps (i.e. the Heaviside function) applied to the input of the transmission line. Initially, we assume that $Z_\mathrm{g}$ and $Z_\mathrm{L}$ are purely real/resistive. At the end of the paper, we demonstrate how the calculations can be generalized to consider reactive impedances.

Abstract:This paper presents a compact passive model of multiconductor transmission lines (MTLs) with frequency-dependent parameters. The development of this model is based on the generalized equivalent circuit model of MTLs where the original frequency-dependent RLCG parameters are transformed into frequency-independent ones. This model can be easily embedded into the discrete transmission line model based on compact finite difference scheme, and the precise time-step integration method is used to solve them in the transient analysis. In addition, since the passivity of the compact model is preserved, it is also compatible with the passive model order reduction algorithm. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the model.

Abstract:This paper presents an effective method based on the Baum-Liu-Tesche (BLT) equation for the simulation of microstrip lines with discontinuities in the presence of electromagnetic illuminations. A right-angled bend is taken into account in the modeling and simulation, as a typical discontinuity of microstrip line. With the BLT equation and superposition principle, the terminal voltages of microstrip lines can be obtained. First, the case of plane wave incidence is analyzed. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are illustrated by the numerical results. Then, the microstrip bend is illuminated by the near field of a dielectric resonator antenna. The relative error of voltage amplitudes is within 8%, when compared with the full-wave simulated results with ANSYS HFSS.

Abstract:This paper describes a new algorithm based on equivalent circuit models for simulation of dispersive transmission lines in the presence of electromagnetic interference. The finite-difference time-domain method is employed to solve the differential equations derived from the equivalent circuit models. No convolution computation is needed in this algorithm. The generalized two-port equation model of transmission lines contributes to the convenience of dealing with arbitrary networks. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are illustrated by a numerical example.
