Abstract:The properties of practical stability and exponential estimates of trajectory bounds for retarded systems with uncertain external disturbances are investigated. Our approach is adaptable to general regarded functional differential equations (RFDEs) with bounded disturbances. By applying our results to the LQ regulator problem with uncertain input delay and bounded external disturbances, it can be found that our results provide an effective method for quantitative stability analysis of retarded systems.

Abstract:Based on a transport partial differential equation representation of input delay, this paper deals with the classic problem of trajectory tracking for uncertain linear time-delay systems under partial state measurement, plant parameter and actuator delay adaptation. An implementable output feedback control strategy is proposed and a recent restriction on relative degree is removed. The Lyapunov-based analysis shows the local stability of the closed-loop error system.

Abstract:The problem of robust stability analysis for uncertain discrete singular time-delay systems with nonlinear disturbance is investigated. The nominal system is not assumed to be necessarily regular and causal. By decomposing the nominal system into slow and fast subsystems, a linear matrix inequality (LMI) condition is proposed for a discrete singular time-delay system to be regular, causal and stable. Based on this, an LMI criterion is obtained for robust stability of an uncertain discrete singular time-delay system. Two examples are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

Abstract:With the growing integration of renewable power generation, plug-in electric vehicles, and other sources of uncertainty, increasing stochastic continuous disturbances are brought to power systems. The impact of stochastic continuous disturbances on power system transient stability attracts significant attention. To address this problem, this paper proposes an analytical assessment method for transient stability of multimachine power systems under stochastic continuous disturbances. In the proposed method, a probability measure of transient stability is presented and analytically solved by stochastic averaging. Compared with the conventional method (Monte Carlo simulation), the proposed method is many orders of magnitude faster, which makes it very attractive in practice when many plans for transient stability must be compared or when transient stability must be analyzed quickly. Also, it is found that the evolution of system energy over time is almost a simple diffusion process by the proposed method, which explains the impact mechanism of stochastic continuous disturbances on transient stability in theory.

Abstract:The transient probability densities of nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems with time delay are investigated. The system is firstly approximated by the corresponding non-time-delay system through appropriate relations between the current states and the delay states. Stochastic averaging is adopted to reduce the dimension of the equivalent system, and the corresponding Fokker–Planck–Kolmogorov equation with regard to transient probability density is obtained. This equation is solved by expressing the transient probability density as multiple series in terms of a set of properly state-dependent orthogonal basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. Two examples are given to illustrate the accuracy and efficacy of the proposed procedure.

Abstract:In the present paper, the transient probability densities of nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom system with time delay subject to modulated white noise excitation are investigated. Firstly, the time-delay stochastic system is approximately replaced by the corresponding non-time-delay system through appropriate relations between the current states and the delay states. Then, the stochastic averaging method based on generalized harmonic functions is adopted to reduce the dimension of the equivalent system, and the corresponding Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equation with regard to transient probability density is directly obtained. This equation is solved by expressing the transient probability density as multiple series in terms of a set of properly state-dependent orthogonal basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. According to Galerkin method, the time-dependent coefficients can be solved from a set of first-order linear differential equations. Finally, the semi-analytical formulae of the transient probability density of the amplitude response as well as the transient probability of the state response and the statistic moments of the amplitude response can be obtained. To illustrate the proposed procedure, coupled two-degree-of- freedom Duffing-van der Pol oscillators with time delay subject to modulated white noise excitation was given as an example. The effects of time delay on the responses are discussed as well.

Abstract:The Stochastic response, stability and reliability of quasi-linear systems subject to multi-time-delayed feedback control and wide-band random excitation are studied by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems. It is verified that the time delay affect the response, the asymptotic stability and the first-passage time greatly, but the deterioration can be almost eliminated if the delay time can be set correctly. All the results are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the robust stability of lurie nonlinear discrete time-varying delay system. The initial lurie nonlinear discrete system with time-varying delay is converted into two interconnected subsystems by using a model transformation. One of the subsystems has no uncertainty and delay and can be analyzed stability by Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method. Then using an input-output (IO) approach which is an application of the scaled small gain theorem to obtain the stability condition of the lurie nonlinear discrete system. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the presented method.

Abstract:We focus on the problem of robust stability for the linear uncertain multi-time-delay system. Both the systems subjected to unstructured parametric uncertainties and structured parametric are concerned. Based on the fact that if the characteristic roots of a system lie in the left half complex plane then the system is asymptotically stable, several delay-independent asymptotically stable sufficient conditions for linear uncertain multi-time-delay systems are derived. These conditions only rely on the structure of the system; this can lead to reduction in conservatism. Some numerical example examples are given to show the superiority of our results to those in the literature.

Abstract:A plant is controlled remotely on a network for a networked control system. Disturbances from the network and surroundings may deteriorate the control performance of such a system. To solve this problem, this paper presents a new method of suppressing an exogenous disturbance for those control systems. The control system has a state observer to estimate the state of the plant and an equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) estimator to produce an estimate of the disturbance on the control input channel in a real-time fashion. The system is divided into two subsystems for the analysis of system stability. A stability condition of the control system with a time-varying delay is presented in terms of a linear matrix inequality. Simulations demonstrate the validity of the method. And a comparative study shows the superior of our method to a conventional Smith-EID control method.

Abstract:The problem of robust stabilisation for uncertain discrete singular systems with time-varying delay is discussed in this article. First, a new delay-distribution-dependent Lyapunov function is established. Then, sufficient conditions are proposed for guaranteeing that the uncertain discrete singular system with time-varying delay has the properties of regularity, causality and stability. Finally, a suitable robust state feedback controller is designed by linear matrix inequality. Numerical examples illustrate that the results derived from the proposed method are less conservative than the existing ones.

Abstract:This paper considers the interval estimation for delayed linear reaction-diffusion systems. To obtain the estimates of the states for delayed reaction-diffusion systems, a novel interval estimation scheme is proposed based on a spatial finite difference method and decoupling technology. First, the delayed reaction-diffusion system is discretized by the finite difference method, resulting in approximated delay differential equations. The bounds of the discretization errors are presented via a rigorous analysis. Then, we involve decoupling techniques into interval observer design for approximated delay differential equations, and its estimates are obtained. Moreover, combining the observations with the discretization errors, we provide the interval estimation of the delayed reaction-diffusion systems. Furthermore, a controller is designed using the observations to achieve the $H_{\infty}$ performance. Finally, the proposed methods are validated by two numerical simulations. Note to Practitioners—This work is motivated by industrial problems instance of the thermal diffusion in CPU chips. Due to the significant cost of real-time measurement of chip’s temperature and the influence of environment, it is more feasible to obtain the thresholds of operating temperature based on known information and available measurements. To obtain the state thresholds, this paper focuses on designing interval observer and analysis of discretization error to guarantee the accuracy while reducing the impact of uncertainties. The methods in this paper is simple and fast to execute in practical engineering, and the discretization error does not need to be obtained through a priori numerical experiment. More importantly, the estimates include the worst-case during system operation, which is relatively practical in real applications. The proposed results aim to provide a helpful reference for controller synthesis and fault detection of spatio-temporal system with time delays, thereby promoting corresponding application research.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel state prediction framework is proposed to address the stabilization problem of linear time-invariant (LTI) system with input delay and external disturbance. The predicted state is obtained by utilizing the estimates of unknown disturbance and its derivatives, which possesses a higher accuracy than traditional methods, and the predicted disturbance is incorporated into the controller to achieve active disturbance rejection. Furthermore, the application of the proposed predictive scheme is extended to the output feedback system and the input-output delayed system, and the corresponding algorithms are designed. Finally, the advantages of the proposed method are validated by simulations.

Abstract:This paper investigates the problems of exponential stability analysis and stabilization for switched systems with time-varying delay via a new approach. To study the problems, the original system is transformed into an interconnection system, which is composed of a feedback subsystem and a forward one with a constant delay and an uncertainty disturbance. The exponential stability condition is presented to guarantee the α-input–output stability of the interconnection system based on the scaled small gain theorem, which is further proved to guarantee the exponential stability of the original system under arbitrary switching signal. Then the switching law existence condition is also proposed for exponential stabilization without input signal. Moreover, the problem of stabilization is further solved with admissible controllers obtained via convex optimizations. Both the problems are solved based on the model transformation method and the input–output approach. The merit of the proposed results lies in its reduced conservatism, which is made possible by a precise approximation of the time-varying delay and the scaled small gain theorem. The superiority and effectiveness of our results over the existing ones are illustrated via some numerical examples.

Abstract:Nowadays one of the most concerned topics in the field of complex networks is to find how the synchronizability depends on various parameters of networks. Complex networks with coupling delays have gained increasing attention in various fields of science and engineering in the past decade. One interesting problem is to investigate the effect of delay on dynamical behaviors and to determine the range of delay, in which, the synchronization stability can be achieved. In this paper, based on the qualitative theory of linear time-delay systems, the synchronization stability in complex dynamical networks with coupling delays is considered and some stability criteria of synchronization state are obtained. It is shown that by virtue of these obtained criteria, the range of delay on synchronization stability of complex networks with coupling delays can be analytically estimated. Finally, a couple of examples are illustrated which agree well with our theoretical results.

Abstract:A novel delay-distribution approach is proposed for a continuous-time networked control system (NCS) with time-varying transmission delays and transmission intervals based on an input-delay approach. The real-time distribution of input delays is modeled as a continuous-dependent and nonidentically distributed (d.n.d.) process. By introducing multiple indicator functions, the NCS is represented as a hybrid system with multiple input delay subsystems. An improved Lyapunov-Krasovskii method is proposed and it additionally exploits the real-time distribution of input delays by means of estimating the cross-product integral terms of the infinitesimal of the Lyapunov functional using a new bounding technique. Delay-distribution-dependent sufficient conditions are derived for the deterministic exponential stability and stabilizability of the NCS, which leads to tighter bounds of input delays than existing results. The resulting controller design method is formulated as an iterative linear optimization algorithm subject to linear matrix inequality constraints. Finally, numerical examples are presented to substantiate the effectiveness and advantage of the results.

Abstract:This paper studies the input-to-state stability (ISS) and integral input-to-state stability (iISS) of nonlinear systems with delayed impulses. By using Lyapunov method and the analysis technique proposed by Hespanha et al. (2005), some sufficient conditions ensuring ISS/iISS of the addressed systems are obtained. Those conditions establish the relationship between impulsive frequency and the time delay existing in impulses, and reveal the effect of delayed impulses on ISS/iISS. An example is provided to illustrate the efficiency of the obtained results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the stabilization problem of discrete-time linear systems with infinite distributed input delays. A novel framework is adopted to analyze the stability of the concerned systems. Under this framework, two truncated predictor feedback controllers are developed for two classes of discrete-time linear systems with infinite distributed input delays via the low gain method respectively. It is shown that under the designed controllers, those two classes systems are globally exponentially stable. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the stabilization problem of discrete-time linear systems with infinite distributed input delays is considered. Two simulation examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.
