Abstract:Before syngas from gasification of biomass could be used as synthesis fuel or chemical feedstock, it requires the removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to meet the purity standard level of those applications. In this study, Zn-Fe/ Al2O3 were successfully synthesized by a microwave-assisted wet incipient impregnation technique for use as adsorbent for H2S removal. The characterization of synthesized adsorbents showed that the oxide form of Zn and Fe present on the surface of adsorbents were zinc oxide (ZnO), magnetite (Fe3O4), and zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4). While the reduction of adsorbent was mostly due to that of iron oxide. The reduced adsorbents might consist of ZnO/Fe3O4/FeO/Fe on alumina as support. At relatively high space velocity (26,000 h(-1)) the adsorbents were able to reduce the H2S concentration from 250 ppm at the inlet to around 45 ppm, 35 ppm, and 25 ppm at the outlet by adsorbent 1ZnFe, 2ZnFe, and 3ZnFe; respectively. The removal efficiency for adsorbent 1ZnFe, 2ZnFe, and 3ZnFe were 82%, 86%, and 90%; respectively. Results also shown an increase in adsorbent lifetime with the increase of the Zn to Fe ratio.

Abstract:The Cu–Zn–Al slurry catalysts prepared via modified sol–emulsion–gel method by adding different water-soluble surfactants were studied for CO hydrogenation to produce dimethyl ether (DME) in slurry bed reactor. The results indicated that the catalyst adding Tween80 or PEG600 had higher activity than the catalyst with the PVP additive. All the catalysts had good stability. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that Cu and Cu2O existed in the pre-reduced Cu–Zn–Al catalysts, while ZnO did not appear. Nitrogen adsorption studies showed that the catalyst prepared with the additives of PEG600 or Tween80 was mesoporous structure with higher specific surface area compared with the one prepared with the additive of PVP. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated that the Cu/Zn ratio on the surface of all catalysts increased after subject to reduction and reaction. The morphology and size of the catalyst particles could be adjusted by adding water-soluble surfactants.
Catalytic performance of CuZnAl slurry catalyst prepared by complete liquid phase technology for direct synthesis DME from syngas

Abstract:CuZnAl slurry catalysts were prepared from the solution of these metal salts by a complete liquid phase technology and used directly for single-step synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from syngas.The effects of technological parameters including reaction temperature,pressure,rotator speed,inlet H2/CO molar ratio in feed gas,as well as the ratios of components in catalyst were studied systematically.It was found that during raising and reducing temperature the activity of CuZnAl slurry catalysts could keep stability,even increased with increase of reaction time.Both conversion of CO and DME yield increased with raising pressure from 2.5 MPa to 5.5 MPa,while the selectivity of DME changed little.The water-gas shift reaction over CuZnAl slurry catalysts proceeded very fast.Among the catalysts investigated in this work,the CuZnAl slurry catalyst with molar ratio of 1∶1∶2.09 was the best one.

Abstract:Cu-Zn-Al-Zr slurry catalysts were prepared by a complete liquid-phase technology, and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption, H-2 temperature-prograrnmed reduction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption. The performance of the catalysts was evaluated in a slurry reactor for the synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from syngas. The results indicate that Zr-introducing manner influences significantly catalyst property. When Zr and Al were added simultaneously, the active component of the catalyst was dispersed uniformly and reduced easily, meanwhile, the catalyst surface structure was stable and the sites of strong and weak acid coexisted. When the ratio of Al to Zr was 10 : 1, the CO conversion and DME selectivity of Cu-Zn-Al-Zr catalyst were comparative with those of CuZnAl catalyst, but its rheological property was obviously improved.

Abstract:A CuZnAl slurry catalyst was prepared directly from a solution of metal salts by an entirely liquid-phase method. The influence of heat-treatment atmospheres with different proportions of CO2 on the single-step synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from syngas was investigated and the catalysts were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), H2 temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR), temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (NH3-TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS) and thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry (TG-MS). Results showed that the introduction of CO2 into the heat-treatment atmosphere made it easier to reduce the catalyst. It also adjusted the Cu0/Cu+ ratio on the catalyst surface, the CO2 reacting with the metallic carbide there to form CO, which then reduced part of the Cu2O to Cu. Moreover, it was concluded that the final phase structure of the catalyst and the Cu/Zn ratio on its surface depended mainly on its composition and the reaction environment and less so on the heat-treatment atmosphere. In the DME synthesis reaction, it was found that the introduction of CO2 into the heat-treatment atmosphere restrained the water–gas shift reaction and raised the DME selectivity. An optimal amount of CO2 in the heat-treatment atmosphere favored the increase of the DME space–time yield. The catalysts performed best when the heat-treatment atmosphere contained 50% CO2.

Abstract:Two series of bifunctional catalysts CuO–ZnO/SAPO-34 were prepared by isometric impregnation and milling calcination. The catalyst samples with different composition ratios have been investigated in the direct transformation of syngas to light hydrocarbons. Furthermore, all the samples were characterized by SEM, XRD, BET, H2-TPR and NH3-TPD techniques. The catalytic reactions were conducted with a feeding gas mixture of CO and H2 at 320 °C and 3.0 MPa. The results indicate that the preparation methods have significant effect on the catalysts performance. Though both series of catalysts could realize the direct transformation and the catalysts prepared by the milling calcination method facilitated a little more syngas to convert, the catalysts prepared by the impregnation method led to higher light hydrocarbons selectivity and less unexpected byproduct like CO2, since these serious catalysts displayed a smaller amount of metallic solid solution, a stronger interaction between the loaded metallic particles and supportive zeolites, more appropriate acidity strength as well.

Abstract:Four CuZnAl slurry catalysts with different contents of Al were directly prepared from the solution of these metal salts to catalyst slurry by a complete liquid-phase method. The structure properties of the catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, XPS, FTIR, and their catalytic performances for the single-step synthesis of Dimethyl ether (DME) from syngas were evaluated in a slurry reactor of 250 mL with a mechanical magnetic agitator. The results indicate the main phase existed in the catalysts are Cu, Cu 2 O, ZnO and boehmite (AlOOH) and the structures of pore and surface are comparable with those of the commercial methanol synthesis catalysts. Activity tests show that the slurry catalysts are quite effective for the single-step synthesis of DME from syngas. Among them, the catalyst with 2.09 mol% Al is best, whose DME selectivity reaches 93.08%. All of the catalysts prepared by the novel method exhibit good stability during the reaction time investigated for 18 days.

Abstract:A novel catalyst preparation method aimed to a slurry reactor has been suggested. Its main innovative thought lies in preparing the slurry catalysts directly from solution. Activity tests indicate that the CuO–ZnO/Al 2 O 3 catalyst prepared by the novel method can efficiently catalyze syngas to DME and the selectivity to DME reaches 93.08%. Abstract:A series of Si–Al based DME synthesis catalysts were prepared by complete liquid-phase method and characterized by in situ XPS, XRD, N2 adsorption and NH3-TPD analyses. Based on the results, the addition of Si could adjust the pore structure and surface acidity of catalyst, exhibiting a strong promoting effect on the CO conversion and DME selectivity. However, when Si/Al ratio is higher, Si would cover active sites and increase the amount of strong acidity sites, causing the reduction in catalytic activity. It was found from in situ XPS characterization that Cu0 is the active center of methanol synthesis in DME production, and the addition of Si changes the chemical surroundings of active components and weaken the interaction between Cu, Zn and Al, which maybe give rise to the decrease in catalyst stability.

Abstract:A series of copper-based catalysts supported on zeolite-Y were prepared through a coprecipitation impregnation method and used for the synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) directly from synthesis gas (syngas) in a fixed-bed reactor. The conversion of CO and the selectivity of DME increased from 7.7% and 5.9% on Cu/zeolite-Y to 53.6 mol % and 63.5 mol % on Cu−Mn−Zn/zeolite-Y, respectively. The results of X-ray diffractometry (XRD), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) showed that the reducibility, dispersion, and acid properties of Cu/zeolite-Y were strongly dependent on the addition of manganese and zinc, which affected the “synergistic effect” of the consecutive methanol synthesis from syngas and the steps for its dehydration to DME. The higher activity of Cu-Mn-Zn/zeolite-Y catalyst for DME synthesis was due to the good synergistic effect of the catalyst.

Abstract:The hybrid systems of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3/HZSM-5 for the one-step synthesis of DME from biomass-derived syngas were prepared by four different combination methods (granule-mixing, powder-mixing, physical coating and dual-bed fixing) and characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD, N2O titration, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and TG techniques. The influences of combination method on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performances of hybrid catalyst were investigated, and the relationship among the combination method, the synergistic effect and the WGS reaction was discussed based on the composition features of the biomass-derived syngas (CO2-rich and H2-deficient). A maximum of CO conversion and DME yield was obtained over the hybrid catalyst prepared by granule-mixing method. There is a synergistic effect, which remarkably promotes the formation of DME, between the methanol synthesis and the methanol dehydration over the hybrid catalysts except for the hybrid system configured using the dual-bed fixing method. The WGS reaction, playing a pivotal role in the direct DME synthesis because of the in-situ produced hydrogen, relates to the combination method closely. An interaction between the two catalyst components arising in the combination process affects the properties of active sites and further the catalytic performances. The deactivation of the hybrid catalyst is ascribed mainly to the increase in the particle size of Cu in CuO-ZnO-Al2O3.

Abstract:A series of CuZnAlSi bifunctional catalysts with different SiO2 contents were prepared by a complete liquid phase method,and the catalysts were characterized by using in-situ XPS,XRD,BET and NH3-TPD.The catalytic performance was evaluated in a slurry reactor.Based on these results,it was deduced that SiO2 in the CuZnAlSi catalyst could interact with AlOOH resulting in the change of some physicochemical properties,such as the pore structure and surface acidity,thus the catalytic activity for DME synthesis has got improved.It was found from the in-situ XPS characterization that the surface active species for the methanol synthesis in the process of DME production is composed by the reduced Cu0 species and ZnO.However,the stability of the catalyst decreased owing to the introduction of SiO2,which may due to a lower interaction among the components of Cu,Zn and Al.

Abstract:A low-cost and environment-friendly Sn/SiO 2 catalyst, highly active and selective for ethane dehydrogenation, is an effective alternative for high-cost Pt and toxic CrO x -based catalysts. While the catalyst deactivates fast due to the loss and aggregation of Sn species. In order to solve the problem, complexation impregnation method and in-situ synthesis approach have been tried to enhance the stability of Sn-based catalyst. As for the former one, a relatively stable performance of 5Sn/SiO 2 catalyst can be achieved due to depressed Sn loss and coke deposition, while there is still room for improvement. When the latter strategy is applied, 5Sn-MCM-41 catalyst demonstrates the optimal dehydrogenation performance, with 44.0% of ethane conversion and 98.8% of ethylene selectivity, and no obvious decreasing trend is observed in the progress of 18 h reaction due to the well dispersion and anchoring of Sn species on the framework of MCM-41.

Abstract:The kinetics for one-step synthesis of dimethyl ether(DME) from syngas over a Cu-Zn-Al bi-functional catalyst prepared by a complete liquid-phase preparation method was investigated in an agitated slurry reactor.Assuming the reaction includes two steps: the first step is methanol synthesis from syngas and the second step is methanol dehydration to DME,different kinetic models were established respectively according to different intermediates and rate determining steps.These models were calculated with the equilibrium concentration of the reactant in stead of fugacity.A good agreement between the experimental and the calculated results of the chosen model validates the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic formation as an appropriate tool for describing the process on catalyst surface.The numerical values of parameters indicate that one of the reasons for better catalytic stability in the slurry reactor is weak adsorption of CO2 on the surface of the catalyst.

Abstract:Al-based slurry catalysts using pseudo-boehmite as aluminum source were prepared by a complete liquid-phase technology and the catalyst precursors were modified by different drying control chemical additives (DCCAs). The catalysts were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and H-2 temperature-programmed reduction. The performance of the catalysts was evaluated in a slurry reactor for the synthesis of dimethyl ether(DME) from syngas. The results indicate that using pseudo-boehmite as aluminum source there takes place a strong interaction between copper and aluminum, which induce the formation of CuAl2O4 and decrease the amount of reducible Cu2O. Consequently, the catalyst activity is decreased. Further study shows that the DCCA influences significantly on catalyst's property. When the catalyst precursors are modified by glycerol as DCCA, the catalysts surface area and mean pore size are increased. The active component of the catalyst is dispersed uniformly and the formation of CuAl2O4 is suppressed, meanwhile, the reducible Cu2O is increased. Therefore, the catalyst shows the highest space time yield and selectivity of dimethyl ether.

Abstract:Direct conversion of syngas to light olefins (C 2 = -C 4 = ) over oxide-zeolite bifunctional catalyst provides a new strategy for light olefins production. Herein, we report a series of bifunctional catalysts composed of SAPO-34 zeolite and Mn-doped ZnCrAlO y oxide with the Mn/Cr ratio ranging from 0 to 0.3 for directing conversion of syngas to light olefins. We achieved a C 2 = -C 4 = selectivity of 78.60% (free of CO 2 ) in all hydrocarbon products with a CO conversion of 23.53% and STY of 0.19 g/h·g cat . No obvious deactivation was observed after 220 h reaction. The impact of Mn doping on the physicochemical properties of ZnCrAlO y spinel oxides was explored by various in-situ and ex-situ characterizations. It was found that the Mn doping could decrease the particle size of ZnCrAlO y spinel, which leads to the formation of more oxygen vacancies on the surface of catalyst. The oxygen vacancies (O def /O latt ) were increased from 0.34 to 0.41 when the Mn content ranges from 0 to 0.2. The abundant oxygen vacancies are beneficial to protect more light olefins and intermediate from hydrogenation. These findings are significant for the further development of high-efficiency bifunctional catalysts for the conversion of syngas to hydrocarbons.

Abstract:The effects of Zn and Mg on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with C3H6 were studied by introducing Zn and Mg into Ag/Al2O3 catalysts with the rotary evaporation method. The effects of Zn and Mg on the microstructure and denitrification performance were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, XRD, UV–vis spectroscopy, H2-TPR, NO + O2-TPD, XPS and HR-TEM. The results showed that bimetallic Zn and Mg modification increased the proportion of ZnAl2O4 and MgAl2O4 spinels in Ag/Al2O3 catalysts, regulated the dispersion of Ag on the Al2O3 support, and promoted the conversion of Ag0 to active Ag+ and Ag δ n + , which enhanced the NO adsorption capacity and optimized denitrification performance at low temperature. Furthermore, in-situ DRIFTS suggested that enol and acetate generated by C3H6 in the presence of H2 will react with NO + O2 to form more –NCO and –CN intermediate species, which facilitated the formation of N2 and improved N2 selectivity. Specially, Ag2.5Zn2.5MgAl exhibited more than 95 % NOx conversion, excellent water resistance and sulfur resistance at 300 °C with GHSV = 100 000 h−1. This process promotes the development of efficient vehicle exhaust treatment technology and the application of related products.

Abstract:The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx by methane in the presence of excess oxygen was studied on a Zn-Co/HZSM-5 catalyst. It was found that the addition of Zn could improve effectively the selectivity of methane towards NOx reduction. When prepared by a coimpregnation method, the Zn-Co/HZSM-5 catalyst showed much higher catalytic activity than the two catalysts of a Zn/Co/HZSM-5 and Co/Zn/HZSM-5 prepared by the successive impregnation method. It is considered that there exists a cooperative effect among the Zn, Co and zeolite, which enhances the reduction of NO to NO2 reaction and the activation of methane.

Abstract:The effect of ZSM-5 composition on catalytic performance of the supported PtSn/ZSM-5 catalyst for propane dehydrogenation was studied using a microreactor combined with infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine, temperature-programmed desorption of NH3, thermogravimetry, H-2 chemisorption, and temperature-programmed reduction. The results showed that the ZSM-5 composition exerted great influence on the catalytic, performance of PtSn/ZSM-5 for propane dehydrogenation. With the increase of SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio in the ZSM-5 support, the numbers of both total and stronger acidic sites decreased. When the SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio in the ZSM-5 support increased from 45 to 108, the catalytic activity increased, and the amount of coke formed on the catalyst surface decreased. When the SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio in the ZSM-5 support was higher than 304, the interaction of Sri species with the ZSM-5 support became weaker, and the ratio of Sn-0 species in the catalyst increased after reduction in H-2, resulting in the decrease of H-2 uptake and catalytic activity of the PtSn/ZSM-5 catalyst for propane dehydrogenation.
