Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.
A proof of the Baum-Connes conjecture for real semisimple Lie groups with coefficients on flag varieties

Abstract:We consider the equivariant K-theory of a real semisimple Lie group which acts on the (complex) flag variety of its complexification group. We construct an assemble map in the framework of KK-theory and then we prove that it is an isomorphism. The prove relies on a careful study of the orbits of the real group action on the flag variety and then piecing together different orbits. This result is a special case of the Baum-Connes conjecture with coefficients.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:We consider the equivariant Kasparov category associated to an étale groupoid, and by leveraging its triangulated structure we study its localization at the 'weakly contractible' objects, extending previous work by R. Meyer and R. Nest. We prove the subcategory of weakly contractible objects is complementary to the localizing subcategory of projective objects, which are defined in terms of 'compactly induced' algebras with respect to certain proper subgroupoids related to isotropy. The resulting 'strong' Baum–Connes conjecture implies the classical one, and its formulation clarifies several permanence properties and other functorial statements. We present multiple applications, including consequences for the Universal Coefficient Theorem, a generalized 'going-down' principle, injectivity results for groupoids that are amenable at infinity, the Baum–Connes conjecture for group bundles, and a result about the invariance of K-groups of twisted groupoid -algebras under homotopy of twists.

Abstract:In this article we study a coarse version of the $K$-theoretic Farrell--Jones conjecture we call coarse or bounded isomorphism conjecture. Using controlled category theory we are able to translate this conjecture for asymptotically faithful covers into a more familiar form. This allows us to prove the conjecture for box spaces of residually finite groups whose Farrell--Jones assembly map with coefficients is an isomorphism.

Abstract:Abstract This paper concerns locally finite 2‐complexes that are combinatorial models for the Baumslag–Solitar groups . We show that, in many cases, the locally compact group contains incommensurable uniform lattices. The lattices we construct also admit isomorphic Cayley graphs and are finitely presented, torsion‐free, and coherent.

Abstract:This paper classifies the pairs of nonzero integers $(m,n)$ for which the locally compact group of combinatorial automorphisms, Aut$(X_{m,n})$, contains incommensurable torsion-free lattices, where $X_{m,n}$ is the combinatorial model for Baumslag-Solitar group $BS(m, n)$. In particular, we show that Aut$(X_{m,n})$ contains abstractly incommensurable torsion-free lattices if and only if there exists a prime $p \leq gcd(m, n)$ such that either $m/gcd(m,n)$ or $n/gcd(m,n)$ is divisible by $p$. Additionally, we show that when Aut$(X_{m,n})$ does not contain incommensurable lattices, the cell complex $X_{m,n}$ satisfies Leighton$'$s property.

Abstract:We consider a class of metabelian groups first studied by Baumslag and Stammbach and we show that these groups are consistent with the Bieri-Groves conjecture which relates cohomological finiteness conditions to the Bieri-Neumann-Strebel sigma invariant.

Abstract:Abstract We consider the semi-direct products $G={\mathbb{Z}}^{2}\rtimes GL_{2}({\mathbb{Z}}), {\mathbb{Z}}^{2}\rtimes SL_{2}({\mathbb{Z}})$, and ${\mathbb{Z}}^{2}\rtimes \Gamma (2)$ (where $\Gamma (2)$ is the congruence subgroup of level 2). For each of them, we compute both sides of the Baum–Connes conjecture, namely the equivariant $K$-homology of the classifying space $\underline{E}G$ for proper actions on the left-hand side, and the analytical K-theory of the reduced group $C^{*}$-algebra on the right-hand side. The computation of the LHS is made possible by the existence of a 3-dimensional model for $\underline{E}G$, which allows to replace equivariant K-homology by Bredon homology. We pay due attention to the presence of torsion in $G$, leading to an extensive study of the wallpaper groups associated with finite subgroups. For the first and third groups, the computations in $K_{0}$ provide explicit generators that are matched by the Baum–Connes assembly map.

Abstract:We develop a method for proving the Boone--Higman Conjecture for groups acting on locally finite trees. As a consequence, we prove the Boone--Higman Conjecture for all Baumslag--Solitar groups and for all free(finite rank)-by-cyclic groups, solving it in two cases that have been raised explicitly by Belk, Bleak, Matucci and Zaremsky. We also illustrate that our method has applications beyond these cases and can for instance be used to prove the Boone--Higman Conjecture for the Leary--Minasyan groups.

Abstract:We answer a question of Calderoni and Clay by showing that the conjugation equivalence relation of left orderings of the Baumslag-Solitar groups $\mathrm{BS}(1,n)$ is hyperfinite for any $n$. Our proof relies on a classification of $\mathrm{BS}(1,n)$'s left-orderings via its one-dimensional dynamical realizations. We furthermore use the effectiveness of the dynamical realizations of $\mathrm{BS}(1,n)$ to study algorithmic properties of the left-orderings on $\mathrm{BS}(1,n)$.

Abstract:Given a Baumslag-Solitar group, we study its space of subgroups from a topological and dynamical perspective. We first determine its perfect kernel (the largest closed subset without isolated points). We then bring to light a natural partition of the space of subgroups into one closed subset and countably many open subsets that are invariant under the action by conjugation. One of our main results is that the restriction of the action to each piece is topologically transitive. This partition is described by an arithmetically defined function, that we call the phenotype, with values in the positive integers or infinity. We eventually study the closure of each open piece and also the closure of their union. We moreover identify in each phenotype a (the) maximal compact invariant subspace.
