Abstract:We use the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula to calculate the Hirzebruch ?y genus Xy(S[n]), where S[n] is the Hilbert scheme of points of length n of a surface S. Combinatorial interpretation of the weights of the fixed points of the natural torus action on ( 2)[n] is used. This is the first step to prove a conjectural formula about the elliptic genus of the Hilbert schemes.
A Lefschetz fixed-point formula for noncompact fixed-point sets

Abstract:We obtain an equivariant index theorem, or Lefschetz fixed-point formula, for isometries from complete Riemannian manifolds to themselves. The fixed-point set of such an isometry may be noncompact. We build on techniques developed by Roe. Key new ingredients are a localised functional on operators with bounded smooth kernels, and an algebra (reminiscent of Yu's localisation algebra) of `asymptotically local' operators, on which this functional has an asymptotic trace property. As consequences, we show that some earlier indices used are special cases of the one we introduce here, and obtain an obstruction to positive scalar curvature.

The S^1 Fixed Points in Quot-schemes and Mirror Principle Computations

Abstract:We describe the S 1 -action on the Quot-scheme Quot(E n ) associated to the trivial bundle E n = CP 1 × C n . In particlular, the topology of the S 1 -fixed-point components in Quot(E n ) and the S 1 -weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [L-L-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus zero with target a flag manifold. The results on S 1 fixed points in this paper are used here to do explicit Mirror Principle computations in the case of Grassmannian manifolds. In fact, Mirror Principle computations involve only a certain distinguished subcollection of the S 1 -fixed-point components. These components are identified and are labelled by Young tableaus. The S 1 -equivariant Euler class eS1 of the normal bundle to these components is computed. A diagrammatic rule that allows one to write down eS1 directly from the Young tableau is given. From this, the aforementioned intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable maps can be worked out. Two examples are given to illustrate our method. Using our method, the A-model for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in a Grassmannian manifold can now also be computed explicitly. This work is motivated by the intention to provide further details of mirror principle and to understand the relation of mirror principle to physical theory. Some related questions are listed for further study.

Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. We also give an obstruction to the existence of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ action on manifolds with isolated fixed points when $p$ is a prime.

Abstract:We give a direct proof of Schauder's fixed point theorem in the setting of geodesic metric spaces, generalizing the classical Schauder's theorem and improving a recent version of this theorem in CAT(κ) spaces. Abstract:The authors obtain a holomorphic Lefschetz fixed point formula for certain non-compact “hyperbolic” Kähler manifolds (e.g. Kähler hyperbolic manifolds, bounded domains of holomorphy) by using the Bergman kernel. This result generalizes the early work of Donnelly and Fefferman.

Abstract:In this paper we present some fixed-figure theorems as a geometric approach to the fixed-point theory when the number of fixed points of a self-mapping is more than one. To do this, we modify the Jleli-Samet type contraction and define new contractions on $S_{b}$-metric spaces. Also, we give some necessary examples to show the validity of our theoretical results. Abstract:This paper explores a simple yet powerful relationship between the problem of counting lattice points and the computation of Dedekind sums. We begin by constructing and proving a sharp upper estimate for the number of lattice points in tetrahedra with some irrational coordinates for the vertices. Besides providing a sharper estimate, this upper bound (Theorem 1.1) becomes an equality (i.e. gives the exact number of lattice points) in a tetrahedron where the lengths of the edges divide each other. This equality condition can then be applied to the explicit computation of the classical Dedekind sums, a topic that is the central focus in the second half of our paper. In this half of the paper, we come up with a number of interesting results related to Dedekind sums, based on our upper estimate (Theorem 1.1). Among these findings, Theorem 1.9 and Theorem 1.10 deserve special attention, for they successfully generalize two of Apostol's formulas in [T.M. Apostol, Modular Functions and Dirichlet Series in Number Theory, Springer-Verlag, New York, 1997], and also directly imply the famous Reciprocity Law of Dedekind sums.
A fixed-point formula for Dirac operators on Lie groupoids

Abstract:We study equivariant families of Dirac operators on the source fibers of a Lie groupoid with a closed space of units and equipped with an action of an auxiliary compact Lie group. We use the Getzler rescaling method to derive a fixed-point formula for the pairing of a trace with the K-theory class of such a family. For the pair groupoid of a closed manifold, our formula reduces to the standard fixed-point formula for the equivariant index of a Dirac operator. Further examples involve foliations and manifolds equipped with a normal crossing divisor.

Abstract:We give a dynamical proof of a result of Masser and Zannier [MZ2, MZ3] about torsion points on the Legendre family of elliptic curves. Our methods also treat points of small height. A key ingredient is the arithmetic equidistribution theorem on $\mathbb{P}^1$ of Baker-Rumely, Chambert-Loir, and Favre-Rivera-Letelier. Torsion points on the elliptic curve coincide with preperiodic points for the degree-4 Lattes family of rational functions. Our main new results concern properties of the bifurcation measures for this Lattes family associated to marked points.

Abstract:A direct proof of the Steiner-Lehmus theorem has eluded geometers for over 170 years. The challenge has been that a proof is only considered direct if it does not rely on reductio ad absurdum. Thus, any proof that claims to be direct must show, going back to the axioms, that all of the auxiliary theorems used are also proved directly. In this paper, we give a proof of the Steiner-Lehmus theorem that is guaranteed to be direct. The evidence for this claim is derived from our methodology: we have formalized a constructive axiom set for Euclidean plane geometry in a proof assistant that implements a constructive logic and have built the proof of the Steiner-Lehmus theorem on this constructive foundation.

Abstract:The Lefschetz fixed point theorem and its converse have many generalizations. One of these generalizations is to endomorphisms of a space relative to a fixed subspace. In this paper we define relative Lefschetz numbers and Reidemeister traces using traces in bicategories with shadows. We use the functoriality of this trace to identify different forms of these invariants and to prove a relative Lefschetz fixed point theorem and its converse.

Abstract:The existence problem of Kähler-Einstein metrics of positive scalar curvature has not been settled yet completely. There are known obstructions, among which there is a character f of the complex Lie algebra h(M) of all holomorphic vector fields defined in [8]. In our works [11], [10], [13], [21], we studied how this Lie algebra character lifted to a character of the group of biholomorphic automomorphisms. It was shown using Chern-Simons theory that it is lifted to an additive group character with values in C/Z. The imaginary part was written as an integral formula, while the R/Z-valued real part was given as a fixed point formula for automorphisms. Abstract:Feng-Yun-Zhang have proved a function field analogue of the arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula, relating special cycles on moduli spaces of unitary shtukas to higher derivatives of Eisenstein series. We prove an extension of this formula in a low-dimensional case, and deduce from it a Gross-Zagier style formula expressing intersection multiplicities of cycles in terms of higher derivatives of base-change $L$-functions.

An analytic approach to Lefschetz and Morse theory on stratified pseudomanifolds

Abstract:We develop an analytic framework for Lefschetz fixed point theory and Morse theory for Hilbert complexes on stratified pseudomanifolds. We develop formulas for both global and local Lefschetz numbers and Morse, Poincaré polynomials as (polynomial) supertraces over cohomology groups of Hilbert complexes, developing techniques for relating local and global quantities using heat kernel and Witten deformation based methods. We focus on the case where the metric is wedge and the Hilbert complex is associated to a Dirac-type operator and satisfies the Witt condition, constructing Lefschetz versions of Bismut-Cheeger $\mathcal{J}$ forms for local Lefschetz numbers of Dirac operators, with specialized formulas for twisted de Rham, Dolbeault and spin$^{\mathbb{C}}$ Dirac complexes as supertraces of geometric endomorphisms on cohomology groups of local Hilbert complexes. We construct geometric endomorphisms to define de Rham Lefschetz numbers for some self-maps for which the pullback does not induce a bounded operator on $L^2$ forms. A de Rham Witten instanton complex is constructed for Witt spaces with stratified Morse functions, proving Morse inequalities related to other results in the literature including Goresky and MacPherson's in intersection cohomology. We also prove a Lefschetz-Morse inequality for geometric endomorphisms on the instanton complex that is new even on smooth manifolds. We derive $L^2$ Lefschetz-Riemann-Roch formulas, which we compare and contrast with algebraic versions of Baum-Fulton-Quart. In the complex setting, we derive Lefschetz formulas for spin Dirac complexes and Hirzebruch $\chi_y$ genera which we relate to signature, self-dual and anti-self-dual Lefschetz numbers, studying their properties and applications including instanton counting. We compute these invariants in various examples with different features, comparing with versions in other cohomology theories.
