Abstract:We rectify some errors in the scheme of generating cluster-type entangled coherent states (CTECS) proposed by Tang (2009 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 42 085502) in this comment. Furthermore, we find that no system can successfully generate CTECS by Tang's method.

Abstract:We propose a method of generating a four-atom entangled cluster state by considering two kinds of the atoms–cavity field interaction in cavity QED. During the preparation the cavity is only virtually excited no quantum information will be transferred from the atoms to the cavity and thus the scheme is insensitive to the cavity field states and cavity decay. The scheme can also be used to generate the cluster state for the trapped ions.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an optical scheme to generate four-mode W-type entangled coherent states (ECSs) in free travelling optical fields by using a single-photon source, coherent state sources, beam splitters, photodetectors and cross-Kerr media. Our scheme consists of a symmetric optical setup in which there are two Mach–Zehnder interferometers in which each arm contains a cross-Kerr medium. We calculate the average fidelity of generated W-type ECSs, the success probability of producing four-mode W-type ECSs and the average fidelity of the generated four-mode W-type ECSs. It is indicated that our protocol is nearly deterministic.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate four Bell states and a four-atom entangled cluster state in a thermal cavity. The photon-number-dependent parts in the effective Hamiltonian are canceled with the assistance of a strong classical field. The cavity field is only virtually excited; no quantum information will be transferred from the atoms to the cavity and thus the scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and the thermal field. The scheme can also be used to generate the cluster state for the trapped ions.

Abstract:The universal quantum computation provides a new paradigm for information processing. One feasible approach is measurement-based one-way quantum computation utilizing cluster states. Generally, the generation of cluster states with different structures for implementing on-demand quantum computation needs different experimental setup, which limits its scalability. Here, the reconfigurable hexapartite cluster states created by postprocessing the quadrature information of hexapartite entangled state are demonstrated. Without altering the experimental layout, nine quantum correlated states with different structures, especially three cluster states, are implemented. In particular, such method can effectively reduce the excess noise introduced by creating cluster states under limited squeezing resources. This approach provides an avenue for realizing large-scale reconfigurable cluster states without changing the experimental architecture. The cluster states are important for implementing measurement based one-way quantum computation. Generally, its generation needs different experimental setup, which limits its scalability. In this article, the reconfigurable hexapartite cluster states created by postprocessing the quadrature information of hexapartite entangled state are demonstrated. This approach provides an avenue for realizing large-scale reconfigurable cluster states without changing the experimental architecture.image

Abstract:Highly entangled states called cluster states are a universal resource for measurement-based quantum computing (QC). Here we propose an efficient method for producing large cluster states using superconducting quantum circuits. We show that a large cluster state can be efficiently generated in just one step by turning on the interqubit coupling for a short time. Because the interqubit coupling is only switched on during the time interval for generating the cluster state, our approach is also convenient for preparing the initial state for each qubit and for implementing one-way QC via single-qubit measurements. Moreover, the cluster state is robust against parameter variations.

Abstract:A practical scheme is proposed for the creation of continuous-variable entangled cluster states of four distinct atomic ensembles located inside a high-finesse ring cavity. The scheme does not require a set of external input squeezed fields, a network of beam splitters, and measurements. It is based on nothing else than the dispersive interaction between the atomic ensembles and the cavity mode and a sequential application of laser pulses of a suitably adjusted amplitudes and phases. We show that the sequential laser pulses drive the atomic "field modes" into pure squeezed vacuum states. The state is then examined against the requirement to belong to the class of cluster states. We illustrate the method on three examples of the entangled cluster states: the so-called continuous-variable linear, square, and T-type cluster states.

Abstract:A class of the single-mode excited GHZ-type entangled coherent states (EGHZECSs) are presented. we exhibit the remarkable properties of the single-mode EGHZECSs, depended on the excitation photon number, such as entanglement and nonlocality via investigating their concurrence of entanglement and examining their violation of CHSH inequality. Finally, we propose how to generate the EGHZECSs by using cavity QED and quantum measurement and by using BBO crystal and single-photon detection technique, respectively.

Abstract:This paper proposes a scalable scheme to generate n-atom GHZ states and cluster states by using the basic building block, i.e., a weak coherent optical pulse |alpha > being reflected successively from a single-atom cavity. In the schemes, coherent state of light is used instead of single photon source, homodyne measurement on coherent light is done instead of single photon detection, and no need for individually addressing keeps the schemes easy to implement from the experimental point of view. The successful probabilities of our protocols approach unity in the ideal case.

Abstract:This paper proposes schemes for generating multiple-photon and multiple-atom cluster states, respectively. The schemes are based on the cavity input-output process and atomic or photonic states measurement, and the successful probabilities approach unity in the ideal case. The numerical simulations show that the produced multiple-particle cluster states have high fidelity even if the Lamb-Dicke condition is not satisfied. Some practical imperfections, such as atomic spontaneous emission and output coupling inefficiency, only decrease the success probability but exert no influence on the fidelity of generated multiple-particle cluster states. From the experimental point of view, smaller operation number and lack of need for individual addressing keeps the schemes easy to implement. These schemes may offer a promising approach to the generation of a large-scale cluster state.

Abstract:Cluster states are versatile quantum resources and an essential building block for measurement-based quantum computing. The possibility to generate cluster states in specific systems may thus serve as an indicator regarding if and to what extent these systems can be harnessed for quantum technologies and quantum information processing in particular. Here, we apply this analysis to networks of degenerate optical parametric oscillators (DOPOs), also called coherent Ising machines (CIMs). CIMs are distinguished by their highly flexible coupling capabilities, which makes it possible to use them, e.g., to emulate large spin systems. As CIMs typically operate with coherent states (and superpositions thereof), it is natural to consider cluster states formed by superpositions of coherent states, i.e., coherent cluster states. As we show, such coherent cluster states can, under ideal conditions, be generated in DOPO networks with the help of beam splitters and classical pumps. Our subsequent numerical analysis provides the minimum requirements for the generation of coherent cluster states under realistic conditions. Moreover, we discuss how nonequilibrium pumps can improve the generation of coherent cluster states. In order to assess the quality of the cluster-state generation, we map the generated states to an effective spin space using modular variables, which allows us to apply entanglement criteria tailored for spin-based cluster states.

Abstract:Entangled graph states can be used for quantum sensing and computing applications. Error correction in measurement-based quantum computing schemes will require the construction of cluster states in at least 3 dimensions. Here we generate 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-dimensional optical frequency-mode cluster states by sending broadband 2-mode vacuum-squeezed light through an electro-optical modulator (EOM) driven with multiple frequencies. We create the squeezed light using 4-wave mixing in Rb atomic vapor and mix the sideband frequencies (qumodes) using an EOM, as proposed by Zhu et al. (1), producing a pattern of entanglement correlations that constitute continuous-variable graph states containing up to several hundred qumodes. We verify the entanglement structure by using homodyne measurements to construct the covariance matrices and evaluate the nullifiers. This technique enables scaling of optical cluster states to multiple dimensions without increasing loss.

Abstract:We propose methods for generating Bell-type entangled coherent states for quantum information processing. The protocols are completed using linear optical elements, single-photon detectors, and cross-Kerr nonlinearity. We investigate the decoherence effect on our protocols; photon loss is found to affect only the probability, not the fidelity, of the generation process. The entanglement of the generated entangled states is also analyzed using concurrence. Finally, the feasibility of our scheme is discussed using the continuous-time cross-phase modulation model. In the weak nonlinearity region, on the condition that theta(2)vertical bar alpha(p)vertical bar(2) similar to 1, theta << 1, and sigma(2) << 1, our scheme is applicable theoretically.
