Abstract:A variational approach is presented for calculating the ground-state energy of two-and three-dimensional polarons in symmetric quantum dots with arbitrary electron-phonon coupling constants. It is found that the polaronic energy correction increases with the decrease in size of the quantum dot and is much more pronounced with decreasing dimensionality. Furthermore, the relative polaronic enhancement is found to be insensitive to the variation of the dimensionality and the coupling constant at weak coupling, however, as the coupling constant increases, it comes to depend on not only the dimensionality, but the coupling constant as well. Ground State Description of Bound Polarons in Parabolic Quantum Wires

Abstract:The Feynman-Haken variational path integral theory is, for the first time, generalized to calculate the ground-state energy of an electron coupled simultaneously to a Coulomb potential and to a longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon field in parabolic quantum wires. It is shown that the polaronic correction to the ground-state energy is more sensitive to the electron-phonon coupling constant than the Coulomb binding parameter and monotonically stronger as the effective wire radius decreases. We apply our calculations to several semiconductor quantum wires and find that the polaronic correction can be considerably large.
An Effective Approach for Two-Dimensional Polarons in an Asymmetric Quantum Dot

Abstract:Within the framework of Feynman-Haken path integral theory, we calculate the groundstate energy of two-dimensional polarons in asymmetric quantum dots for arbitrary electron-phonon coupling constants. From a general three-dimensional Hamiltonian, some interesting problems, such as polarons in quasi-one-dimensional quantum wires and quasi-zero-dimensional asymmetric or symmetric quantum dots can be easily discussed only by taking different limit in the whole coupling regime. After the numerical calculation, we find that the relative polaronic correction increases monotonically with the decrease of effective dot size, and it becomes more pronounced with increasing dimension and asymmetry. Moreover, despite the insensitivity of relative polaronic enhancement to the variation of coupling constant at weak coupling, the correction is related to the coupling constant as the latter becomes larger.

Abstract:Within the framework of the Feynman-Haken (FH) variational path-integral theory, the expression for the ground-state energy of the electron and longitudinal-optical phonon system in parabolic quantum wires and dots with arbitrary electron-phonon coupling constant and confining potential strength is derived in a unified way with the use of a general effective potential. For quantum dots, due to high symmetry, a simple closed-form analytical expression for the Feynman energy can be obtained, and the analytical results in the extended-state and localized-state limit can be further derived. It is shown both analytically and numerically that the present FH results could be better than those obtained by the second-order Rayleigh-Schordinger perturbation theory and the Landau-Pekar strong-coupling theory for all cases, which, therefore, shows the effectiveness of the present approach. In quantum wires, it is found in numerical calculations that the binding of polarons is monotonically stronger as the effective wire radius in the whole coupling regime. Interestingly, when the confining potential of quantum wire is extremely strengthened, even in the weak- and intermediate-coupling regime, this system could exhibit some strong-coupling features. More importantly, it is proven strictly that a very recent result in the literature that ''the binding can be weaker than in bulk case at weak coupling" is not an intrinsic property of this system. In quantum dots, it is found numerically that the polaron binding energy increases with the decrease in size of the dot and is much more pronounced in two dimensions (2D) than in 3D, while the relative polaronic enhancement is stronger in 3D than in 2D for not too weak electron-phonon coupling. Abstract:: The general properties of one-dimensional large Fröhlich polarons in motion are investigated with the previous extended coherent states where two-phonon correlations are considered. As a result, the polaron energy, velocity, effective mass, and average number of virtual phonons as a function the polaron total momentum are evaluated in a wide range of the coupling constant. In addition, rich information about virtual phonons emitted by the electron in motion is obtained. More importantly, some intrinsic features of 1D moving polarons are presented for the first time, which may also be suited to moving polarons in more than one dimensions.

Abstract:Within the framework of Feynman-Haken path-integral theory, the general expression of the ground-state energy for multi-dimensional polarons in symmetric quantum dots for arbitrary electron-phonon coupling constants are derived. Moreover, in the weak-coupling limit, the previous results by the second-order Rayleigh-Schrodinger perturbative theory are completely recovered. More interestingly, the extended- and localized-state solutions to the ground-state energy are obtained analytically.

Abstract:A recent comment on our work (Phys. Rev. Lett., vol. 110, 016601 (2013)) by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.A.Aligia" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> claims that we "made mistakes in the evaluation of the lesser quantities". It is further claimed that the distribution function of the single-particle selfenergy of the interacting region in the Fermi liquid regime, e.g. at small bias voltage, low temperature, and small frequency, is continuous. These claims are based on a comparison of the particle-hole symmetric case with results obtained from the approach of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.A.Aligia" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>. We disagree with these claims and show that the discrepancies that the comment alludes to originate from a violation of Ward identities by the method employed in the comment. A comparison of our approach with the numerical renormalization group shows perfect agreement for the symmetric case.

Abstract:The solar neutrino anomaly, measurements discrepant from predictions of the Standard Solar Model, has existed for over 30 years. Multiple experiments measuring fluxes from several reactions in the hydrogen fusion chain have added to the puzzle. Each of the several elements of the enigma are resolved by recognition of measurements establishing that most of the sun's fusion must occur near the surface rather than the core.

Abstract:In a recent comment by A.A. Zvyagin to our Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 47202 (2002)] it was pointed out that the bosonization treatment of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is only valid in the low temperature and long length limit. We support this statement and quantify the limits of validity by explicitly showing the crossover to the high temperature and/or short length limit using a combination of bosonization formulas and numerical results.

Abstract:In a series of papers, we have proposed a non-perturbative field-theoretic approach to deal with strong electron-phonon and strong Coulomb interactions. The key ingredient of such an approach is to determine the full fermion-boson vertex corrections by solving a number of self-consistent Ward-Takahashi identities. Palle (see Phys. Rev. B 110, 026501 (2024), <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2404.02918" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.02918">arXiv:2404.02918</a>) argued that our Ward-Takahashi identities failed to include some important additional terms and thus are incorrect. We agree that our Ward-Takahashi identities have ignored some potentially important contributions and here give some remarks on the role played by the additional terms.

Abstract:We analyze the results obtained from a model consisting of the interaction etween the electric quadrupole moment of a moving particle and an electric field. We argue that the system does not support bound states because the motion along the $z$ axis is unbounded. It is shown that the author obtains a wrong bound-state spectrum for the motion in the $x-y$ plane and that the existence of allowed cyclotron frequencies is an artifact of the approach.

Abstract:Infinite Dimensional Analysis, Quantum Probability and Related Topics, Ahead of Print. A new framework for the reflection positivity, based on order-preserving operator inequalities, is proposed. This framework is utilized to investigate one-dimensional fermion–phonon systems, with a particular focus on the detailed examination of ground state properties. Our analysis reveals that the reflection positivity provides a consistent description of the charge-density-wave (CDW) order in such systems. Additionally, we establish the existence of CDW long-range order in the ground state when the Coulomb interaction is long range.
