Abstract:We contend that the arguments provided in Phys. Rev. Lett. 130, 016001 (2023), purporting to show the absence of off-diagonal long-range order in hcp $^4$He dislocation cores are misleading and incorrect. In particular, the one-body density matrix averaged over the whole crystalline sample provides no useful information on the possible superfluid behavior inside the quasi-one-dimensional core of a dislocation in the crystal.

Abstract:In the commented Letter Vogt et al. (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://Phys.Rev.Lett" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>. 84 (2000) 2969) claim the existence of a spin-state transition in YBaCo2O5. We think that this claim about the change from the low spin to high spin state upon cooling in YBaCo2O5 is errorneous. Keywords: magnetism, 3d ions, low spin.

Abstract:In their comment <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/9710285" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/9710285">cond-mat/9710285</a> [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 5024 (1998)] den Hartog and van Wees (HW) raise objections against our analysis of the experimental data presented in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/9708162" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/9708162">cond-mat/9708162</a> [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 1547 (1997)]. According to HW, we did not account for the quantum phase incoherence introduced by the Niobium compounds of the investigated Nb/Au hybrid samples. Here we show that and why this criticism is not justified. Some difficulties associated with a precise determination of the coherence lengths are discussed. It is discussed why these uncertainties do not have a qualitative impact on the results reported in our paper.

Abstract:A recent comment on our work (Phys. Rev. Lett., vol. 110, 016601 (2013)) by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.A.Aligia" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> claims that we "made mistakes in the evaluation of the lesser quantities". It is further claimed that the distribution function of the single-particle selfenergy of the interacting region in the Fermi liquid regime, e.g. at small bias voltage, low temperature, and small frequency, is continuous. These claims are based on a comparison of the particle-hole symmetric case with results obtained from the approach of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.A.Aligia" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>. We disagree with these claims and show that the discrepancies that the comment alludes to originate from a violation of Ward identities by the method employed in the comment. A comparison of our approach with the numerical renormalization group shows perfect agreement for the symmetric case.

Abstract:In a recent Letter [PRL 103, 186402 (2009)], the energy band structure of Fe-As-based superconductors is fitted with a tight-binding model with two Fe ions per unit cell and two degenerate xz and yz orbitals per Fe ion. The author claims that the proposed model, which differs markedly from a model previously used by other authors for the same two orbitals in the same compounds, possesses the symmetry required to describe the Fe-As planes in iron-pnictide superconductors. In this comment we argue that this is not the case.

Anisotropic Symmetric Exchange As A New Mechanism for Multiferroicity

Abstract:Discovering new magnetoelectric multiferroics is an exciting research area. Very recently, a collinear antiferromagnetic spin order was found to induce a ferroelectric polarization in a highly symmetric cubic perovskite ${\mathrm{LaMn}}_{3}{\mathrm{Cr}}_{4}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$. This spin-driven ferroelectricity could not be explained by any of the existing multiferroic models. Here, we put forward a new model, i.e., anisotropic symmetric exchange, to understand this phenomenon, which was confirmed by density functional calculations and tight-binding simulations. Furthermore, our perturbation analysis shows that the anisotropic symmetric exchange term can be even stronger than the conventional contributions in some $5d$ systems. Our multiferroic model can not only explain the experimental results, but also may open a new avenue for exploring exotic magnetoelectric coupling effects.

Abstract:In a recent paper, Bylander et al. [Phys. Rev. B 61, 11 875 (2000)] present a calculated magnon dispersion of Fe in the [100] direction. Their results are compared to experiment and to similar calculations by Gebaur and Baroni [Phys. Rev. B 61, 6459 (2000)]. They also refer to the results of Brown, Nicholson, Wang, and Schulthess (BNWS) [J. Appl. Phys. 85, 4830 (1999)] but claim that BNWS's results are unclear because of the use of the frozen potential approximation (FPA) for a second-order effect. They assert that this use of the FPA results from commonly held misinterpretations of this approximation and devote an appendix to its derivation. We disagree and in this comment we demonstrate that the FPA is a valid tool for the calculation of magnon dispersion.

Abstract:High resolution inelastic neutron scattering reveals that the elementary magnetic excitations in multiferroic MnWO4 consist of low energy dispersive electromagnons in addition to the well-known spin-wave excitations. The latter can well be modeled by a Heisenberg Hamiltonian with magnetic exchange coupling extending to the 12th nearest neighbor. They exhibit a spin-wave gap of 0.61(1) meV. Two electromagnon branches appear at lower energies of 0.07(1) meV and 0.45(1) meV at the zone center. They reflect the dynamic magnetoelectric coupling and persist in both, the collinear magnetic and paraelectric AF1 phase, and the spin spiral ferroelectric AF2 phase. These excitations are associated with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction, which is significant due to the rather large spin-orbit coupling.

Abstract:In a recent letter, J. P. Wright et al [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87,266401 (2001) and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/0111119" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0111119">cond-mat/0111119</a>] have investigated the crystal structure of magnetite below the Verwey transition temperature (TV) by means of X-ray and neutron powder diffraction. We show that the interpretation given by J. P. Wright et al. is unsupported by their own crystallographic data which demonstrate, instead, the lack of atomic long-range CO in magnetite below the Verwey transition.

Abstract:In a recent Letter Morita, Kohmoto and Maki analyzed the structure of quasiparticle states near a single vortex in a d-wave superconductor using an approximate version of the Bogoliubov - de Gennes theory. Their principal result is the existence of a bound state within the core region at finite energy with full rotational symmetry, which they assert explains the recent scanning tunneling microscopy results on YBCO single crystals. Here we argue that the approximation used in this work is fundamentally inadequate for the description of a d-wave vortex and that the obtained circular symmetry of the local density of states is an unphysical artifact of this approximation.
