Abstract:An efficient method for alkene epoxidation has been studied systematically using benzonitrile and the complex urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP), which is an anhydrous form of hydrogen peroxide and has the potential to release hydrogen peroxide in a controlled manner and thus avoid the need to slowly add aqueous H2O2 to the reaction mixture. The absence of water in the reaction media was also beneficial, because it minimized undesired reactions of the oxidized products. A range of alkenes was epoxidized by this method, providing yields ranging from 79% to 96%. Supplemental materials are available for this article. Abstract:Oxidation reactions play important roles in organic synthesis, where hydrogen peroxide and peroxy acids are always employed as oxidants. Urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) is recently utilized in numerous oxidation reactions as environment-friendly solidified hydrogen peroxide, due to its advantages such as stable at room temperature, high hydrogen peroxide content (36.2%) and the potential for releasing it in a controlled manner. Several applications of UHP to organic synthesis are summarized according to reaction type, especially for epoxidation, Baeyer-Villiger oxidation, N-oxidation, oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones, oxidative-halogenation and so on.

Abstract:AbstractThe direct synthesis of nitrile from N2under mild conditions is of great importance and has attracted much interest. Herein, we report a direct conversion of N2into nitrile via a nitrile–alkyne cross‐metathesis (NACM) process involving a N2‐derived Mo nitride. Treatment of the Mo nitride with alkyne in the presence of KOTf afforded an alkyne‐coordinated nitride, which was then transformed into MoVcarbyne and the corresponding nitrile upon 1 e−oxidation. Both aryl‐ and alkyl‐substituted alkynes underwent this process smoothly. Experiments and DFT calculations have proved that the oxidation state of the Mo center plays a crucial role. This method does not rely on the nucleophilicity of the N2‐derived metal nitride, offering a novel strategy for N2fixation chemistry.

Abstract:Various aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes were efficiently transformed to the corresponding nitriles in a one-pot procedure by nickel-catalyzed oxidation with tetrabutylammonium peroxydisulfate in the presence of ammonium hydrogen carbonate under basic aqueous conditions. The process affords excellent yields of pure nitriles.
