Abstract:Asymmetric epoxidation of allylic and homoallylic amine derivatives catalyzed by Hf(IV)-bishydroxamic acid complexes is described. Under similar conditions, aldimine and ketimine produced oxaziridines. The sulfonyl group is demonstrated to be an effective directing group for these transformations.

Abstract:Substrate-directed enantioselective olefin epoxidation was limited to a few types of directing groups and relatively low catalyst activities. Herein, an expeditious asymmetric epoxidation protocol is reported for allylic amides and sulfonamides using a hafnium-BINAM-salen catalyst with high enantioselectivity and turnover frequency. Aryl carboxamides of allylic amines with a trisubstituted olefin motif were suitable substrates. Sequential intramolecular ring-opening in a one-pot reactor furnished highly enantiopure oxazoline alcohols. Crystallographic studies suggested the catalyst possessed a mononuclear cis-alpha configuration. Computational studies of the transition state indicated that this conversion underwent a substrate-directed pathway.

Abstract:An iron complex with a chiral aminopyridine N4 ligand bearing strong electron‐donating and bulky morpholine groups on the ligand is synthesized and characterized. The iron complex serves to efficiently catalyze the asymmetric epoxidation of various olefins by employing aqueous hydrogen peroxide as the green oxidant, providing the corresponding epoxides in good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 93 % yield and 99.9 % ee). Owing to the introduction of morpholine functional groups on the ligand, the Fe‐catalyzed reaction can proceed with a catalytic amount of the carboxylic acid partner (3 mol %).

Abstract:An efficient and versatile method for the enantioselective epoxidation of both tertiary allylic and homoallylic alcohols catalyzed by Hf(IV)-bishydroxamic acid (BHA) complexes is described. Asymmetric epoxidation, kinetic resolution, and desymmetrization have been developed, demonstrating the flexible nature of the Hf(IV)-BHA system. This is the first report in which these substrates were obtained with enantioselectivities of up to 99%.

Abstract:In this report, zirconium(IV)- and hafnium(IV)-bishydroxamic acid complexes were utilized in the highly enantioselective epoxidation of homoallylic alcohols and bishomoallylic alcohols, which used to be quite difficult substrates for other types of asymmetric epoxidation reactions. The performance of the catalyst was improved by adding polar additive and molecular sieves. For homoallylic alcohols, the reaction could provide epoxy alcohols in up to 83% yield and up to 98% ee, while, for bishomoallylic alcohols, up to 79% yield and 99% ee of epoxy alcohols rather than cyclized tetrahydrofuran compounds could be obtained in most cases.

Abstract:A range of ferrocenyl sulfides are synthesized and screened. Among them 1-α-methysulphoferrocenyl ethyl acetate and 1-α-methysulphoferrocenyl alcohol are found to be unexpected catalysts, which is first reported mediating in sulfur ylide epoxidation reactions, furnishing a novel approach for highly stereoselective synthesis of oxiranes with 98%≈100%trans-isomer. The protocol also has excellent yield, convenient workup and recycled starting material. The reason of hightrans-selectivity is due to the bulky ferrocenyl sulfide group, which stabilizes the intermediates and determines the trans priority. A possible catalytic mechanism is also proposed.

Abstract:Novel cyclic fluorinated sulfoximines featuring an E-monofluoroalkenyl benzoisothiazole 1-oxide moiety as single diastereomers can be facilely accessed by Rh(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral [4+1] annulation of sulfoximines with α,α-difluoromethylene alkynes. The reaction proceeds with sequential selective cleavage of both a C-H and a C-F bond, thus endowing with high step and atom economy. Through a combined experimental and computational mechanistic study, the origin of annulative chemoselectivity, unconventional E-selectivity, and excellent diastereoselectivity have been revealed accordingly.
