Abstract:We describe herein an intriguing method for the synthesis of biaryl aldehydes bearing both axial and central chirality through a desymmetric [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of activated isocyanides with prochiral biaryl dialdehydes under silver catalysis. This protocol features excellent enantioselectivity, 100% atom economy, good functional group compatibility, and operational simplicity.

Abstract:A novel chiral ionic liquid, compound 1, based on camphorsulfonic acid, was prepared. A catalytic amount of 1 readily promotes L-proline-catalyzed aldol reactions, with good chemoselectivity, both in H2O and in organic solvents. Further, the aldol reaction of cyclohexanone with 4-nitrobenzaidehyde afforded 2-[hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]cyclohexanone (6) in 98% yield with high enantioselectivity (94% ee) when large amounts of 1 (5 equiv.) were used as promoter.

Abstract:Kinetic resolution of 6-aryl-2,6-hexanediones was achieved with chiral secondary amine catalyzed intramolecular aldolization. The current kinetic resolution protocol enables the synthesis of both enantiomers of cyclohexenones with moderate to good enantioselectivity.

Abstract:[Graphics]Functionalized chiral ionic liquids were found to be highly effective and reusable organocatalysts for asymmetric Michael additions of 4-substituted cyclohexanones. The desymmetrization reaction afforded the desired Michael adducts bearing three carbon stereocenters with up to 99% ee.

Abstract:The efficient asymmetric preparation of the C-2-symmetric chiral 1,4-diamine, (1R,2S,4R,5S)-1,4-diamino-2,5-dimethylcyclohexane (5), and its salen ligands is described. With the Mitsunobu reaction as the key step, the overall yield of the four-step synthesis of 5 is 45%. The enantioselective alkynylation of meso-epoxides catalyzed by chiral gallium complexes is also achieved.
