Abstract:A stereo-selective reaction for the synthesis of cis-alkenes/halo-alkenes from diphenylmethane and ethynylbenzenes was developed in the presence of iron(III) bromide or chloride. Alkenyl bromides/chlorides were obtained in comparatively good yields in chlorobenzene under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:An iron-promoted sp(3) C-H bond activation and C-C bond formation reaction between 1,3-diarylpropenes and ethynylbenzenes was realized with BQ (benzoquinone) as an oxidant. The reaction afforded 1-halo-1,4-pentadiene derivatives in moderate to good yields under mild conditions.

Abstract:A Fe(III)-promoted highly selective photo-oxidation of benzylic C–H bond delivering relative carbonyl products is reported. By altering the concentration of ferric salt, methylarenes can be selectively oxidized under UV irradiation to furnish aromatic aldehydes or acids, respectively. By this protocol, the oxidation of ethylarenes provides the corresponding acetophenones. The reaction is inferred to involve divergent pathways in different concentrations of catalyst for the alternative selectivity between aldehydes and aicds. The reusable catalyst, high conversion and selectivity make this oxidation a green and economic protocol for the synthesis of aromatic carbonyl compounds.

Abstract:Herein, we report a strategy for pyrimidination of inert alkanes via synergistic visible light‐driven redox reaction and FeCl3 catalysis. This transformation involves C‐H activation by a chlorine radical generated during the iron‐promoted ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer process, triggering subsequent C‐H pyrimidination. The substrates and catalysts are inexpensive and readily available, while the reaction conditions and procedures are simple without the need for external oxidants. This work provides a practical approach for synthesizing pyrimidine derivatives with high structural diversity.

Abstract:A chlorobenzylation of terminal alkynes through Fe(II)promoted benzylic C(sp3) H bond functionalization in the presence of NCS as a chloride source was developed. Compared with previous methods to prepare polysubstituted alkenyl halides, the presented procedure provides an efficient alternative with high atom and step economy under mild conditions. The transformation was established to proceed through a single -electron transfer (SET) process with benzyl cations as key intermediates.

Abstract:We report herein an alkenylation of benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds with diazo compounds via carbon cation intermediates with DDQ as the oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of Fe(ii). Diphenylmethane, toluene, benzyl methyl sulfide and their derivatives could be applied as substrates to afford the tetra-substituted olefin products, which may serve as useful building blocks in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Using sol-gel method, the iron-containing nanocomposites with the ferric citrate as iron source were synthesized. The clear sols were gelated at room temperature and then treated at 60 degrees C in vacuum to get dry gels which were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Finally, mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanoparticles were obtained by the calciner at 400 degrees C for 3 h. The structure and properties of synthesized particles were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption-desorption technique, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy (FT-IR), and temperature programmed reduction (H-2-TPR). Results reveal that the iron active centers are incorporated into the silica framework with spherical particles size about 50 nm and an average pore diameter of 3.0 similar to 4.5 nm. The catalytic activity of nanocatalysts was tested in the synthesized diphenylmethane by Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction. Results show that the catalysts exhibit an excellent activity with 100% conversion of benzyl chloride and relatively higher selectivity to diphenylmethane, and could be reused multiple times.
